I wouldn’t go too hard for 4/5* recruits in the transfer portal, unless they really are difference makers. I’d rather keep our internal players happy. Play some of your 4/5* true freshman, and once recruits see true freshman play, more will want to come. I’m not saying abandon the portal, grab depth pieces…. But if they spurned us as high school recruits, do we really want them back? Example Raoila?

Another advantage to the first round bye: More time for the coaching staff to work the portal early.

I think losing Humphrey and Jackson are classic examples of how everyone can benefit from the “portal”. Neither player was contributing and they may get to play at less competitive universities. Also, those guys leaving gives us 2 scholarships for more productive players. I agree that we haven’t done great with the wide receivers from the portal, but hopefully we will get Colbie back tomorrow and he was just starting to shine when he screwed up. Go Dawgs!!!

Tykee Smith, Derion Kendrick, Lawrence Cager, Dominic Lovette, JT Daniels. A lot of starters who transferred in. Tykee, Derion & Lawrence all went to the NFL. K

Multiple sources have confirmed to WSBTV that Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will miss the Bulldogs quarterfinal game in the College Football Playoff.

Still waiting official MRI results from UGA.

@CWdawg1979…good point about Tykee and Lovett. However, Cager only started in 6 games in 2019. Kendrick and JT Daniels were both a bust in my opinion.

I'll put it to you this way - we've seen limited meaningful benefit from the portal thus far. Definitely less than a lot of teams. And from a wide receiver standpoint, we don't have a single TE or WR that is even in the Top 100 receivers in FBS this season. That really needs to change going forward.

Good article. Placing weight on culture and character should make sure that Bear Alexander doesn't return.

When you consider how much these portal players cost UGA, and how many reps they actually played, then it seems like the transfer portal is extremely expensive and of questionable value. Most of the players we lose to the portal wind up being busts anyway…. Just clears out the dead wood for better future recruits.

WR's, DB's and DL in that order.
