@MikeGriffith Wow Mike !! This is an Excellent article !! Very entertaining and informative as well. You know I hate to admit my having such frequent “ senior moments” but I had forgotten that Bobo had coached Stockton at SC !!
So they’re certainly familiar with each other and should assuredly be on the same page !! Larry Munson would be proud of how you “ painted the picture” and That’s the highest football media praise I know to give !! Thx Mike !! Go Dawgs !!
The more I think about it, the more I'm astounded that Texas didn't defend our final scoring play better. Beck obviously would be handing the ball off, and the formation hinted at the up-the-middle run. Had we run toward the edge with misdirection that would have been one thing, but we basically said "we're going to run right at you" and then did just that. It's great to see the Dawgs' O-line come through when we needed it most.
Great Mike!!! That's entertaining and insightful pieces two weeks straight!
97 GD, they had two guys in the hole, but neither made the play. I've watched it over and over. Travis make a wonderful cut back, but the linebacker just stood there.
If you're a great athlete growing up, this is the stuff you dream of. If on top of that you're a stud, you seek those big moments along the way and consistently rise to the occasion. Go ahead and pinch yourself, Gunner… this is really happening, And you've got this. Go Dawgs!
Gunner was seriously considering SC, several articles I've read say his dad, and Bobo are long time friends. Things changed when Bobo came to UGA, so Gunner stayed home to be a DAWG. Glad he made that decision! I know it's high school, but Stockton is 3rd in the state of Georgia in total career passing yards, over 13,600 yards, and holds the record with 177 TD passes, with only 17 INT,s. Puts him behind #1 Aaron Philo, now a QB at GT, and Trevor Lawrence at #2, now a NFL QB. I'd say that's a pretty good accomplishment only being behind those 2. He will only get better with more game reps, I have no doubts..GoDAWGS!
Mike,
In my opinion, this is the best article of yours that I have ever read! A great mix of entertainment and information combined into a very easy read! Well done!
You didn't forget Bobo coached Gunner at SC. Bobo only recruited him to SC, but Gunner decomitted from SC when Bobo left for Auburn.
NIL, the death of college football, as we used to know it! Throw in a Transfer Portal, and BOOM, there you go!
So Texas offered Manning more money, huh! Pay to play I guess! Arch has no worries, plenty of dollar signs in his future!
Just hope the Dawgs have a few more good games in them this year!
I believe Gunner's in the right place, at the right time. He has the talent and pedigree of a winner, his teammates will elevate his confidence and play more. I'm going on record today believing he will lead the Dawgs to another Natty!
This was an awesome read, @MikeGriffith!!! Agree with others that these past few have been loaded with facts, insights, and a great dose of optimism and enthusiasm. So enjoy reading this Sports Illustrated-like "long form" type of posts here on DN.
On the Gunner run (which I agree received far too little coverage/credit post the targeting review), I'm convinced that his departure and Beck's return lulled UTx into a state of complacency. I'm pretty sure they thought Beck was just going to spike the ball so Gunner could return. At least that would explain a lot as to why they really didn't show up once Etienne got the ball...
Ah Thanks for that Bro !! I tell you I’d make a terrible witness in court Lol !! My memory has more holes than Swiss cheese !! 🤣
Totally Agree !! SO Glad Gunner is at UGA !! His Dad was a great DB at Ga. Southern so competition and winning is in Gunner’s DNA !! ****His Dad was inducted into GSU Hall Of Fame in either 2016 or 2017 can’t remember which. Go Dawgs !! Go Gunner !!
Gunner is going to do great things as the starter for the remainder of this season and the next. Carson will not be back this year in all likelihood. He will rehabbing the elbow in preparation for the NFL after surgery to repair the UCL in his throwing arm. If it was just a sprain they would have already made the public aware of his status.
Gunner possesses what used to be called intangibles. Things that you can't really put a name on but are endemic in a great athlete.
The only reason Arch is not in Athens is because his family would not don the red and black, twice at Ole Miss and twice in Knoxville during his career. Period, case closed. Money is a made up story!
