Outstanding! Jalon is a prime example of doing things the right way and serves as the perfect role model for young men everywhere!
LBU!!!
Absolutely agree. All of UGA's linebackers have performed in the "elite" range, off and on, all year. Walker was by far, the most consistent and deserves the recognition ss a true havoc maker and leader.
I was disappointed CJ Allen was overlooked by the Award teams....but, you get what you earn. I guess he didn't take as big a step forward as expectations demanded.
I thought Allen played well.…most of the time. Not the havoc-maker, Dean was, in '21. But...Unlike Nakobe Dean in '21....CJ Allen had to cover for a lot of youth and inexperience as well as a gimped up D-line...Lol. IMO....He did a helluva job, under the circumstances.
I love what UGA's doing with the Walker's and Williams'. Kirby is using those guys, much the same way Saban used Turner and Anderson. Moving em all over the field, like head-hunters. Basically...just letting them be football players by using their instincts...within the system.
Problem with doing that.…is you have to trust the player, to know the system and how to stay within the designed parameters. Otherwise, you're exposed and a bust or two, is inevitable.
IMO....UGA's talented defensive backfield gave Kirby the confidence to do...this year...what he couldn't do, with the great 2021 defensive front 7. It took em several games to get there...but...they're there.
Every point against the Dawgs will be hard-earned, going forward. Indiana, Notre Dame, Boise State.…don't stand a chance. Lol...they sure won't be able to outscore UGA [knock on wood], unless there's a rash of injuries on the offensive side of the ball. And, that's not likely. They train year round for this.
Ding...Ding....stand by for season number 2. And, the Dawgs are loaded with depth and experience on the defensive side of the ball. I pity the team that lives by the pass and wins by outscoring teams in a track meet.
You HAVE TO HAVE defense and a solid running game to win it all, these days. There's only a few teams capable of standing up to and competing with the Dawgs for 4 quarters. NONE, can take em in OT. Lol
Go Dawgs!
I hope you're right, but I'm not discounting any of the playoff teams. Any of them came beat us. We have to focus on improving ourselves in preparation for beating whatever team shows up, including teams far better, far more formidable, than you and I might think they are.
It's a new season for our opponents, too.
Go, Dawgs!
Impressed by his interview after the SECC game.
Jalon Walker is indeed a very talented football player and is much deserving of the Butkus Award. Congratulations to you, Sir. Roquan, to me, is the gold standard here. I hope you have success like he has had, Jalon.
The cumulative success enjoyed by so many Dawgs in true unselfish team player fashion is remarkable. To have so many good and potentially great players transfer to other places and miss out on shared playing time, the best coaching in the country, being part of a positive and winning culture, personal development, along with making memories and friends for a lifetime baffles me.
I get NIL and playing time matter but belonging to and being part of something greater than yourself is truly what we live for. Congrats Jalon!
Next man up….
True...but, we're not even sure which UGA Offense is gonna show.
What we DO know...is that the Junkyard Dawg Defense hasn't folded, yet. Not even when they're down 28 points or getting bottles thrown their way. Lol
The Offense just has to put 15 to 20 points on the board, for the defense to hold the lead. IF, it comes to that. But, honestly...I think Stockton will be a better quarterback. If he isn't already.
Don't sell Kirbys scrimmages short. IMO...QB's gain some valuable experience during those Spring and early Fall UGA practice days. The backup has to be almost as proficient as the starter...which I believe Stockton to be.
The only question in my mind...."is Gunner mature enough to handle success....and the inevitable hype that will come from replacing a pre-season Heisman favorite, successfully?".
Lol....the kid reminded me a little bit, of Brock Bowers, with his laid-back demeanor during that post-game interview. If he can maintain that confidence...look out, my friend. He might just be the best of both QB's [Bennett & Beck].
I was a Gunner Stockton fan when he was still in high school. Even when he was committed to South Carolina I told people he was going to play for Georgia. I somehow just knew it in my bones or something. Anyway, I'm not at all worried about him being behind center. He beat Watson's records and Sunshine's records by being supremely gifted, athletic, and talented.
Plus, he is a very good runner. We all know how that helps an offense.
It is very advantageous to have had him play for the entire second half against Texas in the SECCG, and to have had him come in with our team behind on the scoreboard. There is nothing like pressure packed real game experience to season a player especially given a significant period of time to reflect on what happened, what one can improve upon, etc.
Go, Dawgs!
Butkus Award winner didn’t make first team all-sec? Who’s making these selections?
