This is a great opportunity for our own Rabun County Gunnar Stockton to go down in history in the Georgia Bulldog Hall of Fame alongside all the great football players that have made UGA's history so rich over the years. Gunnar has now been on the team for three years and knows the system in and out. Although maybe not as accurate a passer as Beck, Gunnar adds the running dimension, which may very well prove more valuable. At the time of Beck's injury, the Dawgs were losing to Texas in Atlanta and things were looking very bleak indeed. Stockton motivated the team with his charismatic personality unlike any previous game this year. So I am very optimistic that Gunnar is going to go down in the history books this year with a big ring on his finger and will seal his position as starter for the 2025 UGA Bulldogs! Get on board the Love Train, boys!

My fear with Beck coming back so soon after a serious injury is he would be rusty, very little to no practice prepping for such a big game.

On. January 1, 1981, Georgia played Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. UGA 17 ND 10. The Quarterback completed just one pass the entire game. Herschel was injured on the second play of the game, and being the warrior he is, he ran for 158 yards, the defense played great. Georgia has lots of talent, hopefully this break ,will get some players more healthy. I have faith in Gunner Stockton, I think he will do just fine. This has been a crazy season, but the Dawgs survived , and won the SEC Championship. I know Larry Munson, will be looking down with pride, if this game does happen.

@ Nathan1942..i remember that game, and play as if it was last week. Heschel suffered a separated shoulder on the 2nd play.. and as you stated, being the warrior he is, he never complained, or thought about sitting the rest of the game. He continued to play hurt and helped UGA win the National Championship against the gold domers.

I was deployed with Navy when Dawgs beat ND behind Herschel . My Mama sent a news clipping to me I got it over two weeks After the fact !! She always looked out for me with things like that May She Rest In Peace. Now these Dawgs are gonna beat Em again !! Go Dawgs !!

I was reading a news article where the gamblers have ND beating IN by a substantial score then ND beating the Dawgs by a narrow score. At the bottom it had a phone # to call if you have gambling problems.

And I don’t know it just struck me as funny, as I thought Yeah if you bet on ND to beat the Dawgs your gonna have a serious gambling problem at the end of the game !!! Go Dawgs !!!

I got back to the states in time for the 1980 season after no college football for three years. I followed the Dawgs through the Stars and Stripes while I was stationed in Spain. I almost took a COT in place but my wife wanted to come back to the states so I got to watch Herschel for all three years.

I give this article an ""Incomplete ". So we know about ETN and possibly Miller. What about BRob, RRob, Greene, Morris and JHall?

Aw Man that’s a long dry spell !! Dawgs winning the Natty was a big bright spot in my world as two of my shipmates ( one my best friend) got killed on that deployment only a month apart from each other. Thank You so much for your honorable and dedicated service and to All our vets, active duty, reserves and Ntl. Guard here. It’s tough being away at Christmas, I missed 5 during my time. God Bless you All !! P.S. A good friend/shipmate dawged me really bad when Dawgs lost to PSU. I wouldn’t mind getting some payback vs them !! 😀

One of the things I’m placing my hopes on with our Dawgs among other qualities is Endurance. Even with the frustrating slow starts these Dawgs have endured and found a way to come back and win. The only true Terrible loss was to Ole Miss.

Dawgs came within a gnats eyebrow of pulling it out vs Bama. Many teams out there don’t have the endurance to play to the last tick of the clock. I’m only talking the two losses here, the close wins don’t count to me as they are in fact Wins. Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades !! If it gets down to the wire the Dawgs endurance might be the difference. Go Dawgs !!

Absolutely !! I’m on the same page with you I’d like to hear more about All our RBs to. If Both Robinsons are fully healthy by game day it would be Huge !! Even if only one of Em were available would be great. And I never heard about the status of Phillips after that big hit he took vs TX ?? Is he OK ?? What about Bowen ?? Hopefully the DN writers will give us some more info. soon. Course Kirby might be trying to keep his cards tight to his chest as long as he can. We’ll see……..
