I hate this for Beck, but I am very excited for Stockton. We have missed not having a mobile QB threat. Stockton has proved he is fearless and will be aggressive in the position. With the weeks he will have to practice in his new role as QB1, I think he will surprise a lot of folks.
Great news. I hope I never see him in red and black again.
Sounds as though this is it for Beck. Once they start Gunner…ho is the future now, there is really no turning back. Note that Beck is not even with the team. Some love this, some hate it…ever thus.
Next man up . Just curious if anyone on here has any idea why Coach seems to coddle Beck ?
You are a sad man.
Carson is obviously a team player, otherwise he would have transferred out a long time ago. I hope it all works out for him. If he comes back next year, that could be a positive. The receivers just need to be in the right spots, and when they are, hold onto the ball> Do that and UGA will be right back in the thick of it. If not, Gunner is next and he's got some good things to bring to the table.
The team seemed to gel around Gunner and that's a good thing. Going forward the coaching staff will have to make some hard decisions. Do they stick with Carson and try to deal with the dropped passes or start Gunner who may throw a more catchable ball.
fare thee well young man.
I hope he goes on to be a stud in the nfl.
Some may argue for and against Beck as UGA’s qb. But one thing is beyond contestation,
The boy operated with class while at UGA. Never brought any negative off field attention to the dawgs and never threw his teammates under the bus in interviews.
either way, let’s go dawgs!
I wish Beck the very best on and off the field. I hated to see him go out like that, but I think he will regroup and go on to greatness.
Now please take my next comment in the Positive spirit it’s intended. I hope Carson will elect to go on to the NFL for his sake and the Dawgs sake. Even with surgery I think he’d go fairly high in the draft. And coming back he risks getting hurt again at the college level.
As for our Dawgs Gunner would have at least two years of eligibility possibly three if he came back as a graduate student, please correct me if I’m wrong on that and I very well could be.
But for continuity sake it’d be better if this is the beginning of Gunners 2025 campaign. Any other QBs ( with Much respect to them) on the roster would need to Clearly show that they are Significantly better than Gunner in order to bypass him.
Hopefully Gunner is about to lead us deep into the playoffs with Plenty of hope that he could lead us to a Ntl. Title win. IF Gunner accomplished that then no other QB on the roster again with Respect even Beck could say that.
And Yes I Absolutely Believe with the supporting cast he has around him ( Including our Defense) Gunner could help us win a Ntl. Title. It takes a TEAM effort, just as it did in the B2B Nattys. It takes All Hands On Deck !! Make it happen Dawgs, we know you can do it !! Go Dawgs !!
@navydawg
It really is hilarious. Ladd McConkey is closing in on 1000 yards for a San Diego Chargers team that is contending for a playoff spot. Brock Bowers is also closing in on 1000 yards for a terrible Raiders team - meaning that if the team was better he would have even more - and is #1 in the NFL in TE receiving yards. And while Daijun Edwards, Kendall Milton and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint aren't likely to make their mark in the NFL, they were better last year than anyone that UGA has now. Edwards, for example, was a 3 down back who stayed healthy and had 5.5 yards per carry. Rosemy-Jacksaint could get open and didn't drop the ball.
So tell me, why do UGA fans treat Carson Beck as if he is the problem? Yes, Gunner Stockton is mobile. Is that mobility going to give UGA tailbacks who can stay healthy and break long runs? Is Carson Beck's lack of mobility why UGA's WRs can't get open, don't make plays on the ball and lead the nation in drops by a mile? Someone below said "maybe Gunner can throw a catchable ball." Fascinating how Bowers, McConkey and an undrafted free agent in Rosemy-Jacksaint were able to catch those same passes just last year. Or that they are unaware that the NCAA does not count uncatchable passes in their drops statistics.
Yes, it is very appropriate to root for UGA in the playoff. I believe that UGA has a real shot because they are going to be a lot healthier on defense and the OL. UGA also benefits from the fact that 2 of the 4 teams that have the talent to beat them play each other in the first round (Ohio State, Tennessee), a third is one that UGA has beaten twice already (Texas) and the fourth has a suspect enough defense to allow Arian Smith and Dom Lovett to get open (Oregon). But if it happens, it will only be due to the playoffs being easier competition than SEC play, which it almost always is. (2 of UGA's 3 title games were against SEC teams!) But if it happens, it WILL NOT be due to UGA's being a better team WITHOUT the guy who led the SEC in TD passes despite throwing to a bunch of guys who wouldn't start for any other SEC team with a winning record.
I mentioned this in the past: Trevor Etienne was a backup for 6-7 and 5-7 Florida Gators teams. Switching Gunner Stockton out for Carson Beck won't make him as good as his 1st round draft pick and NFL starter brother.
Absolutely pitiful comment. This is a kid who could have gone anywhere and started earlier but stuck it out and threw for over 7300 yards in 2 years. Even with the awful receiving we had, which caused him to take chances he probably should have re-thought, he still led the league in touchdowns. Letting him try that ridiculous low percentage pass instead of the likely successful field goal was a terrible coaching decision but I guess we can say that is part of the game.
This kid was a true Dawg and I am proud he was our quarterback. You express happiness in the injury of a University of Georgia player and your comment shows how truly sad you are.
Hate to see injuries, especially to a vital piece of the puzzle, your starting QB. Hoping for a speedy, and full recovery for Beck. He did lead the league in TD passes, he also led the SEC in interceptions..some due to the receivers, some were from poor decisions by Beck. I don't care who the QB is, as long as the DAWGS win. Many forget, Stockton was a higher rated QB recruit than Beck out of High School. Beck made mistakes himself as a 1st year starter, same as Gunner will. That will change with game experience, same as it did with Beck. We can debate until the sun comes up, it still won't change the fact that Gunner will now start the 1st playoff game, not Beck. I wouldn't be suprised if we've seen the last of Beck as a Bulldog. I think he may rehab, and get ready for the NFL combine. Like it or not, Stockton is now the starting QB. Time to show him support same as we did for Beck..GoDAWGS!
Nothing but accolades for Carson Beck…..DGD…..he may not be on the field but rest assured he'll be on the sideline encouraging and supporting Gunner……as for 78dawg, tis the season for AssHats.
78Dawg, I checked your stats. Since 2020 you have 425 down votes and only 424 up votes. That is an absurd ratio. I know this forum is to express opinions, but your opinions since 2020 don't seem to follow the unprecedented success the Dawgs have had since then. Are you really a Dawg?
I have nothing but positive thoughts about Carson as a Dawg and hope he succeeds in the NFL and keeps repping the G.
Think of the hours of practice in the hot sun and the gumption it took to wait this long for "his" time". Carson is a DGD and a wonderful representative for the Dawgs! Best of luck in your recovery, Carson.
