Dawgs as underdogs does not mean they are! Go through the Dawg roster in your mind. Do these players elicit visions of underdogs to you? Not to this old Dawg fan. Gunner is every bit as good a QB as we saw last nite. You will see. Etienne, Frazier, et al, will run all over ND. The OL is back…so I expect this to loosen up GS to use his legs and the check down throws to guys like Cash J.. UGA's defense will literally crush ND's pass-less QB. Sacks in the double digits. There is no way ND can beat this peaking Georgia coalition!

First round was designed to be at the higher seeds home and future rounds at the former NY 6 bowl sites. Keeps the tradition of the big bowls and spices it up with 4 home games as a reward.

@robinsdawg How do we know Stockton doesn't have Beck's arm? Well Gunner Stockton's year, 2022, wasn't a great one for QB recruits. See this list and that Stockton is #7 on it: https://247sports.com/season/2022-football/recruitrankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool&Position=QB. Anyone with an NFL arm like Carson Beck would have been a top 3 QB in that class.

Remember: you saw #2 on that list, Cade Klubnik, with Clemson this season. His arm is rated as stronger than Stockton's, though not at the level of Beck's. Klubnik is also a dual threat like Stockton with 450 yards and 7 TDs rushing this year. So the combination of Beck's arm with Stockton's mobility would make a top 3 QB recruit in virtually any year save absurdities like 2018, which had 4 guys who started NFL games this season in it (plus Trey Lance, JT Daniels, Joe Milton and Matt Corral).

Stockton has an arm comparable to Aaron Murray, who also had decent mobility but neither the offensive line or RPO scheme to show it off.

Yes, Indiana is a fraud, but keeping them out would have been worse as it would have set a precedent that would have been impossible to consistently follow in the future. The real issue is that the NCAA has to do something about this transfer portal thing. Curt Cignetti was able to rip off half his starters - 12 guys! - from his previous school James Madison and take them with him to Indiana. Sure, we all laughed when Lincoln Riley did this to Oklahoma because who likes Oklahoma? But this will lead to teams doing an "overnight rebuild" by hiring a coach not only for the coach but to raid their players too.

By the way, how was Indiana able to go 8-1 in the Big 10, with those 8 wins in dominating fashion, by using James Madison players? James Madison was FCS as recently as 2021 and even now is merely in the Sun Belt. Even without those 12 guys, JMU was able to go 9-4 this season, meaning that had Cignetti taken more of his JMU guys they would have done even better in the Big 10. The guys calling the game for ABC/ESPN last night mentioned these facts separately but I guess there was too much money on the line to put them together and use it to draw a conclusion. Oh yeah, his going 11-1 against that schedule with 12 of his starters from his previous team and 30 portal guys on the 2 deep overall makes his winning "coach of the year" a total farce. ABC/ESPN was too cowardly to point that out also. Oregon's Dan Lanning should have been COTY. Ran the table while beating Ohio State, Penn State and Boise. Yes all of those games were close and either at home or neutral sites, but there weren't any better candidates beyond the Army (11-1) and Arizona State coaches.

How bizarre that Georgia is an underdog to the Irish. ND hasn't played anybody all year long! I get that Georgia has a backup QB in this game, but Stockton has 3 years in the system! Ridiculous.

They mentioned that when Cignetti was offered the job, he looked at their schedule and said he saw 10 wins there (or some number like that). For a team that went 3-9 the previous year.

@E_Roc UCLA, Nebraska, Washington and Michigan State should be ashamed. Northwestern, Maryland and Purdue should view that as a challenge.

This is one reason I don't do sports betting. Football isn't a stats determined sport. They think that "backup QB" means that he's an inferior QB. He's not. For better & worse, Smart is very loyal to his chosen QB and refuses to experiment and rotate QBs. The reality is, that we're not talking about Puglisi here. Gunner has been on campus for 3 years now. In many programs, he would be a 2nd year starter. He's been practicing endlessly and the only thing he's missing is in-game experience.

Keep in mind, that Beck is not in-sync with his team. I'm hoping (and expecting) him to have a pretty decent NFL career (although it may take awhile to get to starting QB) but his College career NEEDS to be done. It would a mistake for both him, the fans and the team to have him return next year.

I expect the team to be PUMPED and supportive of him. The healing time has helped, but hopefully we won't be too rusty. If we play the way we can, I think we could beat them by a couple of TDs.

@kirkhilles "Keep in mind, that Beck is not in-sync with his team."

And your basis for saying this is what, exactly? Arian Smith suddenly deciding to catch the ball when Stockton came in? Fine, except that Arian Smith also dropped passes when Stetson Bennett IV was the QB. It's why Smith was surpassed on the depth chart by lower profile recruits like Jermaine Burton, Ladd McConkey, AD Mitchell and Dillon Bell and couldn't even stay on the field in 2022 after Burton left and Mitchell got hurt. Note that despite being passed on the depth chart by younger players and lower profile recruits, Smith never considered the portal.

Everyone really is reading a lot into Stockton's 75 passing yards - most of which went to RBs and TEs - and 1 INT. And his 9 yard run when he finished with 8 total rushing yards. It seems like it is a lot easier to scapegoat Bobo and Beck than it is to talk about the WRs and RBs that Kirby Smart has recruited lately.

Can't Pass...my ass! Lol. You can turn a "Dual-Threat QB" into a "Pocket Passing Pro Style QB"....but, you can rarely do it the other way around. There's usually a reason that a quarterback wears the "pocket passer" label.

I expected a lot more designed runs out of Beck, this year. I suppose there's a reason, that never materialized. The way I see it....Stockton can [and DID] do everything Beck can do....but, Beck hasn't shown he can consistently, do what Stockton does with his legs.

Then again....neither one, has shown they have the pocket presence and feel for pressure, that Bennett had.

I'm just saying....the Dawgs are in good hands, no matter who, is behind center. But, if Stockton is "the guy"....he adds another dimension to the offense, that's been missing, since Bennett left.

If not for the hype and potential Heisman run….I think Stockton would've gotten a lot more game time, throughout the year. And, probably would've beaten Beck out for "Starter", by now.

IMO....The situation is similar to the '20 & '21 seasons, wrt a quarterback shuffle that involved Bennett & Daniels.

2020 ended in Daniels replacing Bennett due to injury (initially) and being "named starter" before the '20 season ended. Then....in '21....Daniels was replaced by Bennett, due to injury (initially). I also think, that Kirby expected his Offensive Line to perform better or more consistently than they have, in pass protection. Particularly, in the first half of the season.

See below, Wikepedia. 'Nuff said....IMO. But you guys that have a doubt...go ahead. A little doubt, never hurt anybody. Overconfidence and complacency are the danger zone.

As a senior in 2021, he led them [Rabun Co.) to the state playoff quarterfinals again with a 12–2 record while throwing for 4,134 yards, 55 touchdowns and only one interception, being named All-State for the fourth time in his career and being named the Gatorade Georgia Player of the Year.

    [3][11]

He set the state records in passing touchdowns, total passing and rushing touchdowns and combined passing and rushing yards.

    [11]

He totaled 13,562 passing yards and 177 passing touchdowns at Rabun County while also running for 4,372 yards and 77 touchdowns in his career._______Wikepedia 12/24
