Georgia teammates share what makes Gunner Stockton standout: ‘He has that fire underneath him’
ATHENS — Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman doesn’t know much about new Georgia starting quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Comments
Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban commented on his relationship with Stockton during his time as a high school recruit.
"I've known this kid since he was eight years old," said Saban. "I've watched him since he was eight years old. We recruited him here [Alabama], but he probably always wanted to go to Georgia... The one thing he gives them, in addition, is he is a better runner, I can't say he's a better thrower." Saban also had high praise for Stockton's leadership abilities and hinted that the Bulldogs' offense may look different against Notre Dame.
"They [Georgia] looked like they showed confidence in the kid by the way they played. They weren't trying to protect him in the second half of the game."
If GS balls out in these playoffs he won't be driving an '84 pick up when he comes back to school for spring football.
And Georgia Tech loses to Vanderbilt. Tech fans are blaming the referees, but the score was 35-13 at one point. Tech gave Brent Key an extension after two 7-6 seasons in a row. That is what hiring a George O'Leary acolyte gets you. Tech got up for 2 games this year - Georgia and Miami - and went 50/50 while coming out flat and losing a bunch of other winnable games. Typical O'Leary football and Key learned from the best (worst). And this is going to be another guy that Tech has to buy out in 4 years - as yes the ACC is tougher top to bottom than it was when O'Leary was getting paid to refuse to recruit anywhere but New Jersey, the city of Atlanta and south Georgia -and leave that athletics department in an even deeper hole. Can't happen to a better administration and fanbase.
Not a hint of doubt in the minds and hearts of our players about Gunner Stockton. It seems his confidence is contagious. I might be catching a bit of it, too.
Notre Dame looks like a tough out, but the Dawgs are a very tough, resilient, battle tested team. Key word being team.
Can't you just hear the excitement in the voices of our players. They are very highly aware of the stakes and the possibilities, knowing full well that the Sugar Bowl is a one game season. The moment will not be beyond them or too big for any of them.
Bet you're as fired up about this game as me!
Go, Dawgs!
Maybe, maybe not. Probably means a lot to him to drive around in the same 40-year-old truck his grandfather once owned.
That's what I suspect. Like they said.…this kid's different. You can pick up on it, when they interview him.
A confident man, "walks softly and carries a big stick".....which is what I believe this kid's all about. I think, I recognize the trait. My Grandfather was like that.
Lol.…that being said.…I pity Notre Dame's defense. Does that make me a bad Dawg?
In case it isn't clear....Let me straighten out, where I stand..........UGA. 37....ND 6.
And, for the record.…..Stockton's quality of life, will probably receive an uptick, either way. The Dawgs are gonna walk off with another Natty, this year.
IMO......While the quarterback storyline is taking center stage....Credit the defense, from here on out, for being where they are and going where they're going. To Natty Town, UGA.
Go Gunner!
(What a name for a QB!)
Go Dawgs!
benzene—-well said! Reading the AJC this AM and all the blame was placed on the Refs. It would take a LOT of bad calls to put a team ahead 35-13. Brent Key is a class act—yelling F$%K YOU to the officials from the sideline. Can't believe the announcers didn't mention it nor did he get a flag thrown on him. You must be proud- North Ave. Trade School!!
