Ask the players if it's on Bobo.
Players never throw the coaches under the bus, that is if they want to stick around. However, I have read CMB doing that with the players. Not anyone by name but just saying the offensive woes are because of fumbles, pass drops, and penalties(my paraphrasing) as they have already removed the article from the drop down menu. Nowhere did he say, anything was on him and he needed to coach better. No accountability for now 8 games where we averaged scoring 4-5 points in the first half.
But here's the deal, if it's players not performing up to **** then who does that fall back on? Not the coaches? If the players just arent good enough to win or tp score points then who does that fall back on? WHo recruited them? Who designs the plays and then who calls those plays? THe coaches! I thought we had the best recruiting classes of all the past 5-6 years?. I mean don't we all get giddy every recruiting season?
So, you are left with a couple of choices we didn't get the right guys or the right combiunation of guys or we just didn't coach them up or a combination of the two.
If the players need to do better, then so do the coaches.
THere is nothing about the UGA offense that is unique or poses problems for other teams that have good players from a personnel stand point or from it's schemes and concepts. We are a team that just has to run the ball in order to use play action. We're not very versatile. Our plan B when we couldn't score and fell behind in the first half of half our games was to turn Carson lose with the passing game and he usually came through. Too many times our backs were stuffed at the line of scrimmage and the QB had to get rid of the ball (which CB was one of the fastest times doing that in college and GS was one of the slowest at it.) BUt I'm not blaming him for the loss. JUst what it is. On one play yesterday where he got sacked I counted he held the ball for 4 seconds.
I believe the new receiving group coming in will be one of our best we've had. We will need one or two to contribute right away if Kirby will let them. I remember in the BAMA game the announcers saying that the players had to tell DeBoer that Williams needed to be a starter. Imagine that. Coaches aren't always the smartest tools in the shed. I seem to remember when Stetson was told he would never be a starter at UGA. But the real issue is the O-line for next season.
And MIke, Ettiene did fumble when he was blown up in the backfield before he could take 2 steps with the ball from a defender who went unblocked! I don't put that on him.
The offensive tackles need an upgrade., The offensive line coach needs to be fired. The buddy system is hurting Georgia. Give Mike Bobo one more chance. Go in the transfer portal to get an offensive tackle. Kirby can't let the high level Quarterback leave the state of Georgia for another program
”We’ll see if it can continue to develop well under Stacy Searels.”
that will never happen he needs to go
All the most talented players in the world can’t over come Poor Coaching. The players have to do what the Coaches teach them in practice and instruct them in real games.
You don’t have to be a football expert to clearly see that this O Line has been grossly inconsistent and Failing to often though loaded with 4 and 5 star players.
Dawgs lead All CFB in drops. The WR room is not nearly as loaded as the O Line room in quality. But one would think that over an entire season and post season they would improve at least a smidgen. But Nope.
If I held the keys to power I’d fire the entire Offensive Coaching staff except the RBs coach and TEs coach. And even them would be put on notice.
Yeah I’m JUST a fan. But on MY job where I didn’t make even vaguely the kind of $$ these folks make I’d have been FIRED for poor performance.
Now these things said I’m pretty confident that Kirby won’t fire his life long friend Bobo which is a Weakness in Kirby to be exploited by rivals. But he should at a minimum put Searls and Coley out the door.
Go to the TP and get the Very Best WRs he possibly get. No don’t just bring in Any WR because they are in the TP !! Be selective.
All the Big $$ boosters need to pony up more NIL $$. It is what it is. In CFB now it’s $$$ that talks. Adapt to this new landscape or get left behind. Sad but so.
Go Dawgs !! Get Better !!
“Gave up too many sacks. Gave up too many pressures. Didn’t run block efficiently enough, “ Dylan Fairchild said. “You know, just not what we – wasn’t our standard .Straight, just simple as that.”
Which game have they played to a 'standard' this season? We've been behind in 6 or 7 games waiting on the O-line to get it together. Our run offense has been awful. We don’t block well. At all. We don’t get to the second level. Our RBs usually get tackled on first contact. Then we run screens to supplement a poor run game. It’s an extension of the run game.
The pass offense wasn't much better. Gunner was blind sided a number of times. OT kept getting beat constantly. The same offensive line lapse happened when Beck was slinging it. He had to force a number of throws because of constant pressure. A dozen picks by Carson. He'd even shy away from his progressions just to get the ball out. This line couldn't stop a runny nose.
In 2019 james Coley was the OC at UGA and we ended up 5th in the conference in scoring. Coley didn't bring any OC experience with him but was given the job. He made the (ahum)decision to move onto some place else after the year was over. UGA finished 5th in the SEC in scoring behind his coaching. THis season we finish 5th in the SEC in scoring.
While I understand Coley had better players to work with, than Bobo, Bobo has had years of experience Coley didn't have and still we finish 5th in the conference and 37 overall in scoring. All the teams that made it into the 12 team playoff scored on average more points than UGA. And seemingly not to many people are as concerned about it.
Bobo coaches and calls the plays. True, it’s not ALL on him, but a good bit of it is directly on him. Of course, as the $13,000,000 head coach wears a headset, the buck stops there. Refusing to accept a 6-3 score at the half, especially after a similar disaster at the end of the half in the Texas game, is on Kirby. “Going two minute, as Kirby put it, with 39 seconds remaining in the half was a bad idea. Aruguably that decision costs us the game.
stop defending poor coaching decisions and poor play calling.
To your point, I cringed when I watched that **** fumble on Gunner, wondering if he might've just absorbed the same elbow injury that ended CB's season on a similar avalanche of pressure. Thankfully it didn't… but sure as heck might if that blocking isn't significantly upgraded with better coaching and/or players. Go Dawgs!
I don't know how others feel, but I'm put off by Dillon Bell's comments. It's like he's mad with fans for being upset that we led the NATION in dropped passes. Isn't HE upset about that? Instead, his attitude is basically, "drops happen, but we'll fix it." And I'm thinking, you didn't "fix it" through 14 games this year, what are you going to miraculously do to fix it next year? Just didn't like his attitude. Maybe he needs to hit the portal to some place where repeated drops are acceptable. Go Dawgs!
When it comes to the offense I think Bobo has proven to be a great coordinator when that side of the ball is healthy & talented. Under both Richt & Smart, he has had outstanding offenses. The issues tend to arise when the talent levels are suspect, he is faced with numerous injuries at multiple positions, when facing an elite defense (namely Bama), or a combination of issues. Look at 2012 & how good that offense with Murray at QB. Last year with Beck, Bowers, & a decent OL & RB room vs this year with numerous injuries, an underperforming WR group & Bowers & McConkey off to the NFL record books. Question is can Bobo develop & get the most out of the players he has & overcome unfortunate situations or is he only as good as his personnel?
