What Georgia landing Zion, Zachariah Branch says about the 2025 roster
ATHENS — Georgia has needs. Even for a program that recruits as well as Georgia, not every 5-star player is going to end up like Malaki Starks, nor will every 3-star player become Ladd McConkey.

Stockton absolutely blew me away with the speed of his throws during the ND game. A quick striker for sure. Hopefully some work on the off season on his slow release and I think he is going to wow the fans. Hopefully, whoever the OC is, he will design some QB running plays to get those extra yards and keep the defense honest. In no way should the offense look the same as it was under Beck. Stockton's legs and arm demand more from the OC.
Still nothing about Bobo and filling in for a new OC huh? We are going to be stuck with him again aren't we for another year or 2.
It's great bringing these blue chip skill players; however, if there isn't a significant improvement in the play of the Offensive Line… well… it's a moot point. Time to move on from Bobo and Searels… Bring back Faulkner and Luke!
since the dawgnation site won’t let me post over on that article. I’ll post it here in regards the the James coley article published this morning.
I’d like just one person at dawgnation who has the stones to ask James coley.
“ coach, this past year your position group led the nation in dropped passes. How do you plan to recruit or coach your way out of that title of droppedballU?”
I can extend bobo grace, how can you tell if your play calls are correct when the line has more holes than a Joe Biden speech and the receivers drop passes like they are playing hot potato?
that all being said I still haven’t forgiven his awful play calling from the South Carolina game with Gurley in the backfield and you call three straight passes with first and goal from the 4.
Yesterday I was very excited about these two guys. However, after reading many posts from USC fans concerning Zachariah, I am taking a wait-and-see attitude. There were a plethora of negative comments about Zachariah - drops a lot of passes, difficult to get along with, only 5'10" tall, and hasn't lived up to his 5 star rating. No one at USC appears to be unhappy that both these guys are leaving. His passing stats aren't very impressive.
Connor - any truth to these comments?
You can get all the 5 star WR and TE in the world and it won't make a bit of difference if you don't have a OC that makes plays for them instead of trying to run everything up the middle. I don't think that Bobo has the imagination for the job. Even in the RB room and it was severely depleted because of injuries we still had some RB's that never got to see the field. Fresh legs late in a game can outrun tired legs. Need some new blood in the coaching staff with A LOT more imagination in play calling GO DAWGS
You act like sports writers are actual journalists.
my bad , you’re correct
I am underwhelmed about Branch. Very fast, but only 5’9 and 175. His stats are very average for 24 season, but acknowledge USC was a dumpster fire. he will project as slot receiver to maybe replace Lovett’s production, and hopefully provide some life to punt returns. After reading articles on the web about him, he didn’t progress as much as usc fans thought he would in sophomore season. Let’s hope it was sophomore jinx, but don’t expect him to be the elite receiver who can take over a game like the kid at Ohio State. Our best chance for that is probably Talyn Taylor in the incoming class. Hope he comes in physically ready to play.
The comments about Branch does bring an excellent point. While certainly Transfers CAN be huge (and we have had success), they also often represent a "didn't do well at last school, maybe it'll be different here" philosophy. Just because they were awesome in HS doesn't mean they are cut out for SEC play. That's why you will often see the best success stories being when they transfer away from a top 5 school and drop down a level to mid top 15-25 school or even a smaller school and operate there at a lower difficulty level.
It's tough as fans when we don't see the players out there and we'll be screaming if we don't see Branch getting throws to him in games, but then again we don't see behind the scenes and don't get the whole story.
GS didn't have time to sit back and survey the field in the Sugar Bowl . And when he tried to he was either sacked or had to try to scurry around the end but was just nothing there. Even Etienne a little jitterbug who can often make something out of nothing by cutting back in the opposite direction had a tough time, Notre Dame was very disciplined in their assignments.
What has made the O-line look somewhat better than it actually was all year is Frazier and Etienne's ability to go off script on runs to create some running success on their own, plus CB's getting the ball out to a receiver in well under 3 seconds on average. One of the fastest times of QB's.
As bad as our O-linerun blocking was it would have been even more exposed with bigger "less twitchy" one cut runners like the Robinsons.
You need "elite" coordinators not just players and everyone knows CKS has not addressed that "big" glaring elephant in the room. Todd Monken is "elite" and Mike Bobo is NOT. I'm not sure how many times he has to prove it by wasting talent especially the RBs abandoning the righ history of using UGA FBs to block for a historically superior running game that has been anything but under his tenure over the years at UGA when OFF COORD.
