Too soon to bounce off Georgia basketball bandwagon, Bulldogs still have bite

ATHENS — It’s too soon to jump off the Georgia basketball bandwagon, even if a 30-point loss to Florida on Saturday makes it tempting.

Mike, I understand what you are saying and hope it's true. But just making the NCAA tournament is got to be more than the ultimate goal. We've rarely made the tourney and most times lose in the 1st round when we do! These players don't stick around long, so White has gotta make hay while the sun shines. Too many other SEC football powerhouses have turned into pretty consistent basketball contenders while the Dawgs sit on the sidelines. This has been going on for years now. Dawgs need to figure things out sooner rather than later.
Mike, not sure what us beating a 10-10 (0-7) SEC cellar-dwelling South Carolina team is going to tell us. We are 13th in the SEC standings right now and out of the top 25. Even if we miraculously beat Bama next weekend with a lucky break, some kind of consistency is definitely lacking.
Looks like this team will possibly lose 6 in a row. SC played the lousy stinking gators way better than Georgia did and a road game at bama where they’ve shown they can’t win. I look at teams that recently hired coaches that are having better success than Georgia, and I can’t help but wonder, why can’t Georgia hire a basketball coach like that? White was basically run off from fla. It looks like they made a much better hire than Georgia. Josh Brooks looks like he’s committed to every sport except both basketball teams.
I’ve always pulled for Georgia in every sport, and I’m not stopping now, but this basketball team is hard to watch in sec play. At least they wrecked tech.
@David1 It's a tough league — but White likes this team, and they have talent — let's see what this week holds.
I'm with you, Mike — an appropriately measured response from yesterday's loss.
The hot takes are almost always wrong in either direction. This team still could go either way. South Carolina will help to determine that track. Will we lose our confidence or will we be angry?
We've looked great at times. But sometimes, when things get intense, our guards tighten up and make bad decisions. They've shown that they can settle down and rise to the occasion (Kentucky, Auburn — almost). Experience could result in more of the rising-to-occasion response. Even our transfer seniors haven't had a lot of winning in their college years, so withstanding meaningful runs from good teams is somewhat new to them.
Demary has the talent to be a good floor general at such moments, but he needs more help from fellow guards to avoid all the turnovers. When the going gets tough, Newell needs to bump up his power game inside (not try to make up for dry spells with threes). And we need a couple of the guards — Cain? Leffew? Drezgic? — to make threes more consistently.
We're bound to have multiple road losses in this league , including some bad ones. Bottom line: Tennessee lost to Florida by 30 and is still ranked sixth. We can work our way back up in the advanced metric rankings, but we need to beat the Arkansases and South Carolinas — even if they are pretty darned good.
So let me get this straight…
In the last 3 halves, they have been outscored by 45 pts.
If you go back to UFK game, they have been outscored by 18 in 2 halves vs UFK, 15 in one half by a bad Arkansas team,
and by 30 in 2 halves vs Uf. Total it up…outscored by 63 points in 5 halves from just those games. Against War crows, they were down by 17 points in the first half at one point. They are getting slammed and dominated. Plus….
They have lost 4 in a row
Yep the future is bright….
It’s good that he likes this team, but a coach liking his team doesn’t guarantee victories.
Biggest issue is Silas doesn’t have the skill set to be a PG. Can’t handle the ball can’t create or distribute. I love Silas he hustled & can get to the rim. it’s not his fault he’s being asked to post out of position. It’s all on the “coach”
