imageMike Bobo contract details spark further debate about Georgia offensive coordinator

ATHENS —Mike Bobo isn’t going anywhere. Despite pleas from fans, media pundits like Paul Finebaum and an erroneous report from former Georgia quarterback Buck Belue, Bobo will still be the team’s offensive coordinator, play caller and quarterbacks coach as Georgia starts spring practice next week.

As most of us, I will never know the inner workings of this program loved by many of us loyal fans. But I have been a Dawg fan since I was 6 years old growing up in Athens as a kid with several uncles that also loved this program.
I’m sure Mike Bobo is a fine man and I know he loves Georgia but for me, I will never have any confidence in him as an offensive coordinator to take us to the levels of success we know this program is capable of. I hope I’m proven wrong this season but if his play calling is the same vanilla, mediocre method of play calling we have witnessed through many years I hope a change will be made. I would love to be proven wrong. Go Dawgs!

How many of you said, "In Kirby I Trust." How do you feel now?

Honestly, if Bobo were to just bring in some additional coaching talent, it would make a big difference. I just haven't seen it.

Keep in mind, Smart had the EXACT same record as Mark Richt before and after Monken. If Monken wasn't hired, Kirby doesn't win two national championships. Kirby is a great D Coordinator and recruiter. He has his eggs in the Bobo basket. We'll see.

He’s grossly overpaid. For the offense to be so much worse than the previous year, vast improvement should be made this year or the calls for his head will be louder.

If it's the players, then why does Bobo get a raise and an extension?

No, when the team doesn't perform well on offense, then it's the players and not the coaching.

Am I the only one that sees a problem here?

It tells me we're not serious about winning another Natty in my lifetime.

For a guy to NEVER CHANGE and get better is weird. 4 diff running plays, 2 to the right 2 to the left. The dumb, not sneaky, same ole same ole throws to the sideline receivers and virtually no play action uniqueness...Exactly what he did in the richt years. Glad monken was here for Bowers or he woulda hardly ever seen the ball...Bobo holds back the greatness. A non ego coach would work to improve, not Bobo tho.

Great guy and all, but only average

Heck fire, go watch the KC Chiefs play calling and learn some new tricks

My point was, if the team puts up points give Bobo credit(give him a raise) which they did, I understand it was given before the 24 season. However, what I have failed to see is anyone at UGA, beit coaches/those who write and have access to coaches/or players criticize Bobo for the offensive slide and especially the failure of the offense's sluggish first half struggles. Talk about digging yourself a hole! Players fall on the sword (which is noble) but beat writers/those with access to and make their living writing about the Dawgs can't be or (risk their jobs at least at the present institution) too critical of the coaching staff. WHy bite the hand that feeds you?

I understand beat writers and those that make their living by being able to ask questions to coaches for fear of losing their access and falling out of favor not wanting to criticize CMB and not asking the hard questions to Kirby.

So, who does that leave to make the criticisms of Bobo? Kirby? Nah, Kirby's not going to throw his right hand man and best friend under the bus either. We wouldn't expect him to.

So, that really only leaves to blame the players. "The receivers couldn't catch a cold" and "they couldn't get seperation", "the Running backs were lame" and the "O-line couldn't block" although as a unit they sure did perform well at the combine.

Coach Stacey Searles has been criticized somewhat by the beat writers. "he needs to improve." What about Bobo? I guess you have to choose your battles carefully.

Not saying it will happen( I hope it doesnt) for obvious reasons, but if CMB and the offense have another down year offensively, even with the perceived improvment and upgrade at the receiver position, an upgrade at the QB position(at least that is the perception of many fans-I mean the guy drives a pickup truck for crying outloud that's good for at least an extra 10 points per game), and better backs now that Etienne is gone(according to some), and a recommitment to becoming RBU, and still no nice bump in scoring? Then will CKS be willing to axe his best friend? You tell me, honestly?

If that were to happen(no big upstick in scoring) will it all be on the players again? Will we once again need a fresh new group of better players? Maybe one day we'll get the right group of guys in order to score 40 points per game?

Paul Finebaum is outside of the UGA echochamber and has gone on record as Bobo should have been fired. Lots(not necessarily on this forum) but definitely out there among Dawgnation feel the same way.

The 2025 season will answer who was right and who got it wrong IMO. I have been on the fence about Bobo as far as him being fired. I just want him to do better. Was the 2024 team as good as the 2023 team as far as personnel? No. However, if coaches get the credit for when the players do well, they should at least be subject to some criticism when the palyers don't perform well. If not, why not? You can't have it both ways.

An idea (just occurred to me) is that Kirby maybe coaches another 5-6-7 years at UGA, depending on the record, and is grooming Bobo to be his replacement. That ought to explode a few heads. If that's the case, then Bobo would have to really wet the bed, so to speak, to be removed.

Bite your tongue. I don't even want to imagine that as a possibility.

And yes, my head exploded reading that

Guess the Friends and Family program is alive and well at UGA. Very disappointed in both Brooks and Smart. A veritable middle finger to the Dawgnation…

No other college football program would give Bobo six figures these days…

Don't hold your breath for any more CFPs anytime soon, boys…

Bobo has become Smart's Willie Martinez…
