Gunner Stockton is still a question mark, even if he isnât the biggest one for Georgia football

Whether it be the influx of talent at wide receiver or the desperate need to improve upon the offensive line, progression from the offense will be a key storyline to follow.

Wishing for an QB out of the portal after Spring practices.
Gunner has got the arm, grit, and toughness we need. His only physical limitation might be his height. Close in height to Stetson (5'11"), he's just over 6' which means he gets balls batted down sometimes and would do better throwing the ball rolling out of the pocket. Stetson managed the height issue and so can Gunner. Not worried but something to think about. Looking forward to the QB competition coming up.
There is no question that GS is the biggest question on the UGA team. Every other position has multiple guys/options teed up. Not saying he can't play. Just saying he hasn't proven that he can play at a championship level yet.
GS is the only real option to play QB this season that is currently on the roster. THAT makes him the biggest question.
GS has a lot of experience playing the position (HS) and 3 years of practice at UGA. He should be ready. Accuracy, decision making and height are the questions about GS.
I think it is guaranteed that UGA takes another QB (experienced) from the spring TP as an insurance policy.
No question in my mind, I saw this kid in high school. He’s a gamer and a terrific leader. Beck had all hype, tall, cannon for an arm but wasn’t a leader. Leadership trumps talent every time. Gunner is th least of my concerns this year.
For me the biggest question and concern is the offensive line. If they can't improve on the running game and can't protect the QB any better than in the playoff game, it will not matter how much Gunner improves. As far as a QB transfer after spring practice, I don't think there is anyone out there that will improve the QB room. Look at last year's QB transfer. He's nowhere now. I won't be surprised if one is brought in as Kirby likes 4 QB bodies for practices, but anyone they bring in will be behind without the benefit of spring practice.
Yes, Stockton's learning experience at the end of 2024 was a valuable lesson in how to become a Houdini artist behind a porous offensive line, getting consistently chased and/or pummeled throughout the lesson. I thought he did better than expected in that class, and will hopefully not have to take it again. Go Dawgs!
Puglisi will be the starter by the half way point. Gunner is not it.
I watched Stetson play in all his 3 high school seasons of football and kept telling everyone he could play. I hoping Gunner is cut out of the same mold. I like the fact that he'll tuck and run it when he needs to which in this day and age is a must. Looking forward to the spring game, but it's just a glorified scrimmage so the first couple of games should tell the tale.
I have plenty of confidence in Gunner. I believe he will do very well provided the O Line does their job and provides him with adequate protection and WRs catch balls that are decently thrown to them. For me the biggest question mark entering this season is the O Line.
Can they on a Consistent basis provide pass protection And open holes for the RBs ??. As for WRs I’d love to see them catch the balls that are on target and make more effort on those that are contested passes or not so much on target.
Gunner has good wheels to buy time, but receivers have Got to get separation and get open.
The people I’m holding most accountable are the coaches.
In time Puglisi will develop into a great QB. I don’t think it’d be fair to expect him to match up to Gunner having never thrown the ball at the collegiate level.
And you think a very inexperienced Puglisi is better? That's funny..
UGA has 18 hand picked, very large men on its roster training to be offensive linemen. Building their strength and working on their technique daily. Seven of them are both greater than/equal to 6'6" AND 325 lbs (or more). Those 7 OL does not include returning starters Greene, Freeling, Morris or Bobo. 6 of those 18 have starting experience and/or have been in the UGA program for 3 years. You would be hard pressed to find a better OL situation at any other school in the country. Unfortunately, it is not a reach to expect some attrition from this group after spring practice is over. But also not a reach to expect this group to be improved over the group that played (injured) vs ND.
While UGA is unlikely to find a spring TP QB that is going to come in and start, finding a spring TP QB that can come in and provide an experienced backup as insurance to a GS injury is not only possible but also likely. Go ahead and mark it down now.
As for JRash, he is playing this transfer very smartly. No doubt he could've found a landing spot after the winter TP. But then he wouldn't know who his final QB competition would be until after the spring TP. This way he can assess every school's depth chart and injury situation and parlay his availability into a guaranteed starting spot in the fall. Actually a very shrewd career move on his part.
As for GS being " a gamer and a terrific leader", those traits are excellent to have in a QB. But if a QB can't hit his targets consistently and push a 70% completion rate there aren't likely to be any championships coming.
I agree CWdawg - O Line is the issue. They've solved WR issues. They have RB's. The QB won against Texas. He will only get better. And they have talent behind him.
Their problem is O Line. Yes, I would agree that they have some big bodies, but that doesn't make a good O line. Someone has to coach and strengthen them. Basically the same squad as last year, and they were terrible. What will change? I think it was a mistake to extend Bobo's contract. I've read that he is put on notice with a one year extension. I still think the buck stops with him and Searls. I haven't seen where the two of them have had a great offense in the last 10 years. Why did Matt Luke leave? Why did Buster leave? Both are having great success somewhere else. I'm hopeful, but not real hopeful.
