Spring camp holds so many expectations….how much improvement will we see in the veterans, will certain 5 stars make the leap into "Ligit NFL Prospects", how bout those walk-ons and three stars….will we have any "McConkey Meteors"?, how will the "Portal Imports" acclimate, will they embrace the arduous path to become DGD's, and my favorite to watch, which Freshman, out of sheer talent and determination, earn a starting position, will Bobo & company successfully mold our given offensive talent into a dominating scoring behemoth…ie: 1000 plus yard rusher/ WR's & TE's that catch and advance the ball and will our defence return to the 22/23 standard……but for me the BIGGEST question on my list……the one that has held my attention and hope for years now……will the Robinson's ever get healthy and become contributing members of the 2025 season????????
Sad how often so many of us have to post "test" on this site before writing our actual content... DN, fix your posting standards, please!
😳☺️🤣
practice pass protection. got a feeling we are going to need it more than ever
have you taken a poll on how many “fans” are upset with Bobo ? I think just mostly pundits like you and Finbalm. Probably a few fans that never played a down but are very loud and angry.
Roman, I would say the vast majority of everyone I talk to are upset with Bobo and Searls. Vast. I'd say his one year extension was a warning shot. Perhaps Bobo really works his butt off to make it happen. I hope so.
Don"t mean to be condescending, but I"m really trying to understand the purpose of this article.
There are multiple reasons why Kirby Smart is bringing back all his assistant coaches. They are not good reasons. First, UGA is on the verge of falling from the Club of the Elite. They have slid down each year since 2021. Second, since UGA seems to find ways to lose the most important games and their fundamentals are now suspect, other head coaches are not interested in hiring them. Their marketability is low. Third, most of these mediocre coaches are highly overpaid. $1.5M per year for Mike Bobo? We need to call in DOGE. Smart needs to replace the long term friends he gave cushy jobs to and hire the best in the business if we are to regain elite status. We also need to pay to reel in the very best playmakers which we are currently not doing. Finally, Smart needs to revise his recruiting business plan in light of the new realities of the transfer portal and NIL.
Beachwagon, we lost 3 games, played a brutal schedule and got a bunch of kids beat up along the way. Our coaches are excellent, our players are elite we just got beat 3 times. Smart is doing a terrific job navigating uncertainty in the NIL era. I suspect we’ll be in the playoffs again and be in position to win it all. Sky isn’t falling, it’s Spring Practice! Let’s enjoy th ride 😃
it’s been a long off season with little drama. Connor publishes an article every weekday @6am. He needed one more before spring practice.
fans have become spoiled brats and will blame the low hanging fruit. Players have to execute- sure there may have been a couple of bone headed calls from our perspective. But the analytics probably gave the coaches a green light for those plays. I’m not saying Bobo is the best, but each season will bring different challenges. And yes I agree that if the Dawgs are not significantly better statistically that this should be his last season as OC
@Roman13
I come from a family, sisters, parent, in-laws , neices and nephews, etc.. of huge Dawg fans and have lots of friends who wouldn't miss watching them for the world. I don't know of anyone, let me repeat anyone who "likes" Bobo. That's my 2 cents. So, yeh, there are lots of true Dawg fans who aren't "happy" about Bobo.
My hope is he proves us all wrong, and UGA can win another NC in the near future. We don't have any other options.
I have noticed that many/most of Jeff Sentell's articles don't allow comments. Also, it seems that some of CR's articles sometimes don't allow comments. I have taken the "test" approach now on articles that do not have any previous comments posted rather than type out a long comment and have it fail to post. If test posts you can edit it. If it doesn't post no time wasted typing a comment.
As for the Bobo question, I was a fan during the Mark Richt years. I thought he did well enough with what he had. Not so much now. I still contend that the 2nd d umbest play call in football history (Sea passing from the 1 in the SB is #1) was running Bowers in a TE jet sweep against Vanderbilt cost UGA a 3 peat.
I don't think you can judge Bobo on the '24 offense. RB's were hurt, OL was sub par, and WR's dropped passes left and right. Can't really blame Bobo for that. Pressure will be on the offense to perform this season.
GS will be the biggest offensive key. Many fans seem to expect his 1st year starting stats to resemble CBeck's. 72% completion %, almost 4K passing yards, 24 TD/6 INT. Not sure how realistic that is. Especially against this schedule. Look at SBIV's 1st year starting stats. 56% completion %, 1200 passing yards, 8 TD's/6 INT's in 8 games. I expect GS to do better than that but not approach CBeck's numbers.
That being said, this group of RB's are the weakest and most questionable of the CKS era. GS may not benefit from a typical UGA running game. Other than Frazier the group is either injury prone, small, inexperienced or reserve level players. We saw what happened to ETN when he was overused in '24. Frazier may be in the same boat this season. I expect UGA to bring in another RB from the spring TP.
I'll tell you another problem with Bobo and Searls - they've run the same playbook for 2 decades? One huge benefit Todd Monken enjoyed was new schemes. Because of Bennett, Monken adjusted and surprised many people. Defenses struggled to adjust. Monken thought like an NFL coordinator. He knew he couldn't man up and drive through quality competition, so he was inventive. Bobo still tries to push through plays he's used for years. Everyone expects it. Their analytics expect it, more often than not. When I say Bobo needs to work his butt off, he needs more knowledge, more schemes. He needs a group of people working full time to find better ways to counter Defensive alignments. My concern with Bobo and Searls is that they don't see that need. Don't have that drive. And they haven't hired those analysts that work on that level of detail. Doing the same thing will bring the same results.
Just my humble opinion, I could be very wrong and it wouldn’t be the first time. But I hope that the TP efforts are directed at and not necessarily in this order WR, OL, DL. In my humble opinion they should coach up the QBs they already have. If they’re exclusively concerned about Offense only then get another Quality WR to add to that unit and another Quality O Lineman to add to that unit. Speaking for me, if one pops up I wish they could add a Quality guy on the Defensive Line.
As for Bobo and Searls for good, bad, or in between their here so let’s all Hope that they react Positively to the intense and I mean Intense scrutiny they will surely be under. Can you teach old Dawgs new tricks ?? I don’t know I guess we’ll see.
I think there’s just to much talent on this team to go any worse than 8-4. But for Dawgs fans that would be a nightmare. Conversely if every thing falls perfectly in order and a good break here and there along the way Dawgs could run the table.
On the Offense it’s not really rocket science. The O Line has to protect the QB long enough for him to make a decent throw. And open holes for the RBs. The QB has to deliver accurate throws on time to his target. And receivers need to catch any and all decent passes thrown to them and make maximum effort for passes that are not that accurate and/or are contested.
Defensive front needs to create more havoc, sacks, QB hurries, batted down passes, tackles for loss.
By and large Dawgs have the players can the Coaches coach them up to Elite level of play ?? Can they coach the players up to give Maximum Effort on every snap ??
MY most critical eye will be on the coaches.
At least no one has gotten arrested so far this off season.
