At the moment, thereâs a cluster of mind-splitting issues that high-powered figures â judges, administrators, lawyers and politicians â canât seem to sort out in a timely or effective manner.

Personally Mike, I don't think Nico was even worth the $2M a year that was already in his contract. Salary caps, whatever they end up being, can be easily worked around if a team has their NIL/ Collectives outside the program. Many elite teams will be setting up their Collectives in this manner. And Deloitte, the " gatekeeper " of deals, has no real legal leg to stand on if they try to restrict what players can get. Yes, it's a mess, and until this system gets some rules that will stick, I don't see things getting any better from a coaching perspective. It's unfortunate the legislative authorities and NCAA have not done what needs to be done to rein in the Wild West. I expect more controversial situations like Nicos to come up this season and beyond. I still love the game, and last year's playoffs were fantastic. But, despite the parity that the TP has brought to some aspects of the game, the money situation is leaving most people with a very bad taste in their mouth.
I think ultimately we are heading to players becoming employees. I don't see any other path forward that can realistically work.
I am not a fan of the Purina Nation by any means, but I applaud UT for standing up to the young QB trying to do a Jesse Jackson-style shakedown on them. College players' demands caused by a wimpy NCAA and a corrupt justice system are destroying our beloved sport of college football. I am a die hard Dawg, but even I am starting to lose interest based on the mercenary NIL/TP/booster "collective" money. It is really sad how Ohio State just went out and bought the NC last year with a bunch of money. If this continues, I predict that college football popularith will fall like a lead balloon. We are in the process of killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Hats off to UT for a courageous stand to not surrender to this toxic environment.
Extrapolate trends into the long term. If current trends continue, universities will conclude that their mission does not include funding and managing professional football teams. Then they will start dropping these programs, and all those scholarships that helped the economic disadvantaged in our inner cities will be gone forever.
Mike, he's being treated this way for HOW he conducted the process. He basically alienated himself from the coaches and his teammates because he didn't show up for the LAST DAY of practice before the spring game and didn't tell anyone on the team. I'm glad UT told him goodbye. He was not that good of a QB. Zero titles and blown out in their only playoff game in the playoff era.
I'm all for players getting compensated for NIL, but not for the millions of dollars most of theses players are getting. I don't think coaches should get those high salaries either. A cap needs to be put on the amount these players and coaches are getting paid. I definitely don't believe that an incoming freshman should get anything until he's proven himself on the field. I know this will get some down votes, but that's ok. Most don't remember college football like I do.

All this NIL and TP and really even Coaches salaries problems can be laid right at the feet of the NCAA and the Conference Commissioners. They Could have fixed these things years and years ago. And Yes they were aware. Yes they saw it coming. But they sat on their lazy duffs and read sports magazines ( or maybe girlie magazines) and Did Nothing !!
Now a Pandora’s Box has been opened and CFB is a hot sticky mess. And it’s gonna take Tons of negotiating with all interested parties including the army of lawyers and politicians to sort out all this goo . In my view the term “ student athlete “ is becoming very hypocritical very fast. Yes I Know there are some brilliant students on the football team but they are the exception not the rule. For proof of that just listen to most of them when they do an interview.
I don’t know all the nuances of What they need to do but they better proceed Wisely but Quickly. Usually Wisely and Quickly dont tend to mix to well, about like mixing water and oil. So where does the $$$ originate that supports these programs ? Fans. Rich fans, middle class fans, and even poor fans.
I don’t know what it will take or how long, but I believe it Is Possible to turn off enough Fans that the $$$ will dry up and CFB will die. And it’s a sad and tragic thing because the highly paid and quite snobbish people that Could have fixed it years ago, Didn’t !!

As I take it, the article states Nico was asking for the equivalent of what Beck received as compensation. Nico has won nothing in college, except a few regular season games, no SEC titles, or playoff wins, unlike Beck. Nico making the demand to be paid the same as Beck is comical, to say the least. NIL has made average players feel they should be compensated at the very highest level..prime example: Nico Imaleavin. Kudos to UT for standing up and not meeting his outrageous, unproven demands 👏

College football is out of control. One year free agency and no way to ensure continuity..They want alums to contribute what they’ve been giving for scholarships, facilities and coaches’ salaries plus now fund massive NIL.
Maybe it’s time to go to an Ivy League model and let the NFL fund its own farm system.
All this back and forth….for what it's worth, The Vols took the correct action…..even if they had acquiesced and ponied up more dollars, it would have never been enough. Nico was a cancer in the locker room….he was no longer a TEAM guy…that's the attitude that has a debilitating affect on all of the "non-Lambo" driving team mates….especially the big uglies task with pass pro….it filters along to the hands crew and dropped balls skyrocket…..the big uglies start whiffing on blocks to open holes, so the RB's rarely get past the LOS…even if they are really 5 star NFL 1st round material…..ultimately the losses rack up for a team not as loaded with talent as Georgia was last year and the "boo-birds" want the everybodies head from the OC to the O-Line coach and even the HC is under the microscope…..for what it's worth, the 24 Dawgs, for the better part of the 24 season, escaped the cancer because of excessive talent and coaches that never stop preaching and demanding adherence to the DAWG STANDARD…..regrettably, it almost came to a close when our "Lambo" ran out of gas in Hotlanta then did couch out in Naw-Lins. For what it's worth, had The Dawgs pulled a "Major Hoople" on Beck, I believe we would have done just as well and just maybe might have created….at least given the opportunity for another DGD Legend!

I was a rabid Dawg fan for 60 years, grew up playing every down in the back yard listening to Munson paint th picture. Season ticket holder for 30 years up until 2 years ago. College football has lost me. Don’t really care anymore. I think more and more folks are like me and see that the game has lost its magic.
You are spot on. I’m Still watching but the powers that be are Allowing it to be ruined and quite rapidly. It’s getting harder and harder for young people in particular to have a “ Hero” to look up to. It’s All about the $$ !! The powers to be are pretty s t u p I d if they don’t realize it’s a FAN generated income !! Lose the fans lose the $$. Maybe they can fix it but I don’t see much hope.
