5-star QB Jared Curtis and 5-star OT Jackson Cantwell — set to announce their commitments in the next couple of weeks.
Curtis, the No. 1 QB in the class, will decide between Oregon and Georgia on Monday, May 5, while Cantwell, the No. 1 overall player in the class, will decide between Oregon, Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State on May 13.
Heard a lot about Curtis, but considering UGA's need on the frontline, how intensely is Georgia going after Cantwell? And with Oregon trying to nab both players, how much will this influence each of them? Cantwell thinks a lot of Oregon and they kind of moved the needle on his last visit. Think he's comfortable with Georgia as well.
"Oregon’s chief pitches are centered around its program being more successful in developing the QB position of late and its offensive prowess."
Who has Lanning recruited and developed at QB other than Bo Nix and Bo played for Malzhan for 3 years so there's that? Recruit a kid from high school and then develop him and then let's talk about success in developing a QB. Taking a transfer that someone else has already lived through the inexperience of his play is different than developing a kid out of high school that can lead your program…advantage Georgia!
Lanning got Bo Nix drafted top 15. He was not going that high till he came to Oregon. What QB has Kirby gotten drafted that high?
@Kasey mod:
You're missing my point. I acknowledged Bo Nix in my post and Lanning surely helped him but so did Gus Malzhan and those 36+ games he started at Auburn. As a Falcons fan too, I wanted Bo Nix because he is a legitimate dual threat QB. My point is who has Lanning developed from high school that has led the Ducks? The vast majority of Power 4 QB's never play in the NFL regardless of how well they were coached in college. It's about developing a high school recruit to lead your program. Smart has done that (Fromm, Bennett, Beck) and Lanning has yet to do it. If we're talking about developing QB's, there's no comparison between Smart and Lanning.
Worth noting, the mention here is "program", not head coach. Lots of things can contribute to landing a college QB in the NFL. Position coach, scheme, financial support, marketing, schedule are just some of the obvious and over time, despite different coaches, Oregon as a program, can claim Kellen Clemens, Dennis Dixon, Marcus Mariota, Justin Herbert, Bo Nix, and now Tyler Shough and Dillon Gabriel.
Oregon will claim partial or full credit for all of them because that's what sales and marketing is.
well he just got there three years ago so he really hasn’t had time. Also most kids pick school by who can get them in the NFL. And Nix has gone higher than any Kirby qb. Even Justin fields.
If he looks at how those other 5 stars did at GA, he will go to OR.
Justin Fields was the No. 11 overall pick to the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft. Bo Nix was the 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
my bad…close enough
I just don't see how Oregon is in this. What QB have they developed? Bo Nix? Lanning's system was bound to produce better than Auburn, but I didn't see a huge amount of growth. Bobo has coached some serious QB talent. And it's a NFL pro system. You can dink and dunk for lots of yardage in the Oregon/Colorado system, but as S Sanders just proved, padded stats won't sell if you can't make the reads. You need to get into a NFL type system like UGA.
Bo nix went 12th overall wym?
QB Jared Curtis commits to Georgia!
