someone hypothesize the next 4 years at QB. Given the current QB room and no injuries. Manning set two years, will Curtis? Does Montgomery transfer or stay and compete? Does Gunner only start one year?
2025- Stockton? 2026 Stockton/ Puglisi? 2027 Puglisi/Montgomery? 2028 Puglisi/Curtis?
Justin Fields has always been the question mark. At the time, Fromm was more experienced and better, at the top of his game. Justin was inexperience and the bottom of his game. Also, Fields couldn't really play a pro style offense. He struggles in his reads. In a dink and dunk one ready system like Ohio State, he could thrive against weak competition. In the pro's, very different. That's why he's been traded so many times. A five star designation in high school comes with so many asterisks - usually the height, arm strength, and yards, but no one know the drive, the brains, the accuracy. That's why Tom Brady is the goat. Curtis has the factors, but we don't know the asteriks.
The writer makes a good point, money becomes a huge factor - so their will be even more push to play. Honestly, that will make it worse for coaches. If a kid comes in being told he's super special, then refuses to put in the work or do it the way the coaches want, that team will have a huge issue. But, there's a warning - look at Harrison Bailey.
Gunner QB1 for 2026
Pugs, Montgomery, and Curtis three way battle for QB1 in 2027. Loser likely leaves town.
Will some one explain to me why they are cutting down the amount of players that a team is allowed to have on their roster? Is it money or what and did the teams request this or is this something the governing bodies cooked up. Looks to me like walk-on's will be a thing of the past and that is a darn shame. Some one please enlighten me on the reason behind this. Thank You GO DAWGS
He will be gone in two years or less. Kirby has shown little ability to handle top rated QB recruits.
Ohio State spent most of its $20M last season on retention. Texas is spending most of its $35-40M this season on retention as well. So yes, retention- not transfers - is where most of the money should go. My bet is that Jared will need to win the starting QB role for the 2027 season or there is a high likelihood he transfers.
Michigan is starting true 5-star freshman QB Bryce Underwood this season. It will be interesting to see how the season and his progression play out this year. But the most intriguing QB story of this season will be how Texas and Arch Manning do. Does an inexperienced Arch Manning have enough talent and backup experience to lead Texas to a National Championship? Or will Arch Manning be the Achilles heel for Texas ? There are no guarantees for him.
First off, no talk about Fields. Fields was and always will be a "one off". It was a strange situation and really shouldn't be analyzed more than that. Stafford was the exact opposite in that his numbers were "average" at best but then he got drafted #1 and proved his value many times over.
It's kinda weird because we come so close to getting some big stars but then whomever we get seems to fizzle away. The 2021 class had Ewers, Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Maye was rated one spot above Vandagriff and wound up picked 3rd overall in the Draft. Vandagriff quit football. JT Daniels was 3rd behind Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields and is no longer playing football. Fromm was 3rd behind Davis Mills (3rd round pick, $5 million per year now) and Tua (signed $214M extension) and did amazing for Georgia, but has not had much of an NFL career. Jacob Eason was 2nd best QB and 4th best player overall and never succeeded in the NFL. Brice Ramsey was 3rd best QB and did, well, nothing really.
So… what does all that mean? It's difficult to say. I've been very harsh of the WR recruiting in the past (compared to Bama and others, it was really pathetic) but Smart has certainly stepped up his game there. Of course, people seem to assume that Stockton is only going to stay one year, but that seems kinda strange - he has 2 years of eligibility left, right? No matter what, I hope Curtis understands that he will NOT be playing Freshman year. That's just not how Georgia Football works.
I told you, I told you. @BrandonAdams I told you last Friday that we would get Curtis. We will also sign Cantwell and Atkinson. Curtis is just the beginning for this class.
Well thank you Debbie Downer..dang.
“…I think I’m gonna stay with that,”
uummmhhh.
"Georgia hasn’t needed to hit on its 5-star quarterbacks in the past to win championships. But that era of college football is in the rearview mirror."
Is it, though? Why? Does it have to be?
I don't think it is, and I don't think it does. In the end, most people outside of this state (and many in it) didn't think that era was even a possibility, and yet… there it was.
@kirkhilles I think it's the elevated level of maturity that's necessary to succeed at QB that makes it such a wild card. It's difficult to know what a 20-year-old QB will be capable of 6 or 7 years down the road because of the maturity factor. These are great examples (mentioned in your comment) of how the development trajectory that these players appear to be on can change dramatically over a few short years. The two extreme examples for this theory are Tom Brady and Cam Newton. One of them demonstrated the potential to dominate the NFL, and the other actually did.
GO DAWGS!
Cam Newton won an MVP and played in the Super Bowl wym?
My concern here is that he's unproven in high school, just like Brock was. Sure, Brock was a 4 and Jared is a 5 star, but both played at small private schools against small private schools.
Comparing him to Stafford is suspect. Stafford played at a mid size public school (~2000 students) in Texas. Huge difference.
