Why Georgia should have great interest in national QB rankings

ATHENS -- Quarterback rankings are always subjective, especially those in the preseason before anyone really knows for certain what teams and their supporting casts will look like.

Rusty Mansell says that "Stockton is Bobo's guy" Hope he's right.
I like what I saw in Gunner. This year will come down to play calling and O line, not the talent of QB. Gunner can get it done.
Stockton simply doesn't have enough reps to warrant a legit ranking. I think he will be better than he has shown thus far. Manning doesn't either, so I don't know why he would be ranked so high. He hasn't shown much star power in games at all. I guess that's wishful thinking and expectations, but we know plenty of 5-stars that have flopped.
Nussmeier, Lagway, and Sellers are legit very good QBs. We may not have won against the Gators last season if Lagway hadn't gone out early with an injury. And he's gotten better. All these guys show experience is just as important - or more - than talent.
exactly. If the OL can’t protect it won’t matter who the QB is. Ask Patrick Mahomes if he wishes he had a better OL in the most recent Super Bowl.
Lagway flashed for sure, but he’s losing his top two pass catchers and he missed all of spring ball with an injury. He needed that time to gel in my opinion. His new top 2 targets will be Tre Wilson who’s yet to put together a healthy season and a UCLA transfer.
@Kasey…valid point about Lagway, but he's reported to be recovering and due back to full contact by June in time to gel with Tre and company.
Gunner is a baller and certainly capable of leading this team. I'm not worried about him, but his success - along with the entire offense - mostly lies with that OL.
Lagway will be doing 7v7 type drills and I have no doubt he will be getting work in. But I’m curious about the severity of that injury. His deep ball is elite, his mid-range game needs work. Will be interesting to see if he can make the leap.
I hate to keep harping time and again on our dropped passes last season, but with Stockton's arm, decent pocket protection, and guys catching the balls we could have a breakout season in the air. I recently read that Georgia's record number of dropped passes last season added to 665 yards of production lost which is 130 yards more than the most ever for any team and the most since 2018. Wow. What a difference even if we got back half those caught could have made in our season.
Stockton's arm + good pocket protection + best receiving group in years = SUCCESS.
I'm betting Gunner is fine with essentially being an underdog… 247Sports has under-promised, now Gunner gonna go out and over-deliver. Go Dawgs!
Gunner has tremendous potential imo. However, I agree we just haven't seen enough to draw conclusions. I think almost everybody is discounting the fact that his first meaningful playing time in CFB was in the SECCG, and his first start was against the #2 team in CFB last year! He did a great job if you consider the pressure, the competition, and the situation. He will grow a lot and the game will slow down in his first 5-6 games this year.
I like his low ranking. I remember '21 well. I thought we were going to have a great D and one of the best front sevens in UGA history. At the SEC meeting in the summer, the media totally dissed our team, and BTW, they totally missed what actually happened that year as the draft proves. Talking heads and the media are wrong a lot. The key question for Gunner is whether he can become elite in time for UT in the POW camp, and then Alabama at home. He has to grow up fast.
I think Lagway is going to be a great QB if he stays healthy. The Gator fans I know are really excited about the fact that they finally signed the top two receivers from FL. Can his OL protect him? That's the question. If they can, the Gators are going to be much better in '25.
he still needs to make that leap. Can he be a complete QB? Maybe. But him missing all of spring repping with the first team will not help.
Is it wild to anyone else that Nussmeier is still playing? I remember people talking junk about how long SBIV had been in the game, but dang! Nussmeier was the dude who filled in for LSU after J. Carter lifted their starter in the air and flashed that number one. I know it was only '22 and he was a freshman, but that seems like forever ago! Four years of actually playing QB for a team? Who even does that today?
guys who can get fat NIL packages
A lot of ppl are going to have egg on their face when Gunner proves them wrong. He will be a top 10 QB Nationally by Nov.
Beck at 8 is laughable..
