Most of these elite HS players these days are just about the instant gratification, the money that will buy them a hot rod that will then get them in big trouble. Very few of them take the long view about being developed by the best coaches in the business so that when drafted by the NFL their initial contract will swamp what they wanted as freshmen in college. NIL is ruining college football. Unless something is done, it will go down as killing the goose that layed the golden eggs for college football in their heyday.

Jeff, Vlad Jr had 91 STRIKEOUTS IN 2019. My goodness, do you do ANY research or are you secretly trying to sabotage Georgia. I mean, you are just absolutely so error prone, that I seriously wonder. Wake up, man!

I'm too scared to get in on this one. I just hope to High Heavens that we sign Mr. Atkinson. It would be beyond wonderful to watch him play in Athens!! And even better for him—he wouldn't have to spend three Loooong years in that rat hole called Clemson,SC.

The bottom line…..I know it, every contributor to Dawg Nation knows it, every D-1 coach knows it and every NFL scout knows it……if you are truly committed to play LB in the NFL, the place you go for development is The University of Georgia…..Not Oregon or TOS and sure as hell not Clemson or Auburn……that said, if TA is indeed an AtkNup kind of guy, there's no better gold than to become a DGD by AtkNup every game day.

So Mr Atkinson if you really believe you've got what it takes to make that moniker synonymous with the BEST LB in college football, becoming a DAWG is the only place to be cause Odell,Randall, Tommy, John, Boss, Rennie, Knox, Nakobe, Ben and Roquan have set the bar in the stratosphere!

I am not sure that Atkinson isn't looking for a situation where he (is more interested?) can build his "AtkNup" brand while making a name for himself as an individual on the football field. He seems more interested in being "the straw that stirs the drink" than being a cog in one of the nations most dominant defenses. That's my take.

I read where Clemson is desperate to sign him. They would allow him to rise above their program as an individual and pay him as a priority. Unlike at UGA, he would shoot to the top of the Clemson depth chart on day 1 on campus.

This recruitment reminds me a lot of the recruitment of Barrett Carter out of N Gwinnett a few years ago. Clemson convinced the higher rated Carter that Clemson was the best place for him at the next level.

Carter played 4 years at Clemson. Won a couple of ACC championships. Was 1st or 2nd team All-ACC twice and was drafted in the 4th rd on the NFL draft.

UGA missed out on Carter and signed Jalon Walker. Walker went on to win a National Championship, 2 SEC championships, Butkus Award as nations top LB, All American and went 15th overall in the NFL draft.

UGA took 2 ILB's in the '25 class. Currently, UGA has no ILB's committed in the '26 class.

@JeffSentell I know it's still early in the cycle but it feels like the sec has taken a decided step backwards nationally in recruiting based on current team composite rankings. Is there any validity to that perception or is this normal for the league this time of year?

Also, any word on changes to the transfer portal? This has deterred me as a fan far more than NIL deals. Recruiting wins have definitely lost their luster for me because most of them never develop within the system and jump ship to the highest bidder or promises of playing time. Its hard to give a full throated support for my team when the players change with the wind. There now feels like a significant disconnect between fans and players, it feels like the NFL now with even less team allegiance from the players somehow.

UGADad20, Great points and a fear I didn't want to mention…..all I can say if this is the course Mr. Atkinson takes, He wasn't a "Georgia Guy" and would have never fit in as a TEAM member……"Prima Donnas" please apply elsewhere! Likewise, NFL teams truly interested in building SB quality tend to avoid the showmen.

Word on the street is that Atkinson's last visit to UGA really illuminated what his and the team's ceiling can be should he commit. He is a home state guy. IF CKS gets him in the program he will grow up (key word) in a system that will prepare him for the next level. Just ask the Eagles or Packers GM's.

Just seems logical for him to come to UGA, put in the work, get better and shine when his time comes. If he doesn't go to UGA that just tells me he may not be willing to go by the numbers and pay the price.
