Stetson Bennett competing for NFL job with former UT-Martin QB

BREAKING: Elite Florida DL James Johnson has committed to Georgia â¦
Comments
After what I saw him do for two straight years, I would bet on Stetson anytime.
Amen! Lol. We are about to see, if and how, that 1 year hiatus effected his drive.
IMO....LA, sees Bennett as their Quarterback of the Future. But, they want to see him fight for it, the way he did, for the Georgia job. See if he has his mojo back, in other words. Lol
We're gonna see a whole lot more of Stetson Bennett. He has God on his side.
Go Dawgs!
At UGA, Bennett’s TEAMS were better than everyone else. He was the guy playing quarterback for the best team with an amazing compliment of receivers and running backs and a defense that would easily crush everyone.
The Rams picked him up because he does have talent. Saying they see him as the QB of the future is just silly. Maybe initially, but then his head, ego and baggage got in the way. While I would have no problem with being proven wrong, I’d say he is headed for a short stint in the UFL or Canada. Sometimes your talent is no better than a college quarterback. We have had a bunch of them with very few exceptions. Why do people think Bennett is different?
By the way, that “1 year hiatus” was 2 years ago and for the second straight year he is fighting for third string or practice squad.
SB just simply isn’t a NFL starting QB. You’ve seen talented college QB: Aaron Murray, Jake Fromm, Jacob Eason, heck even Tebow, some guys are simply college stars or really good in college, and there is nothing wrong with that. You have Mahomes and Josh Allen, who maybe didn’t do as much or get the spotlight in college and did well in the NFL, so it’s not exactly science. I respect and appreciate all SB did for UGA. He will go down as a UGA legend but don’t bet your life savings on him becoming a solid NFL starter. He made the league, that’s good enough and an accomplishment itself.
yes, but some are still sore because he proved them wrong in college. They are still bound and determined to prove they were right by pointing out all the negatives & difficulties that he is having in his pro career.
I truly appreciate all of what he did at UGA. Being a great QB isn’t just talent alone…although he had plenty.
One if not the best QB ever at UGA.
I disagree. Bennett had 2 or 3 of the best receivers in the game....that, were hurt, in part of '21 and all of '22. His running back core was average at best. His offensive line, was one of the best in CFB.
Bennett, didn't exactly, carry anybody's water and jock strap. Stetson had "Game" of his own, to contribute.
I don't know why some Dawg Fans feel the "need" to minimize his contribution rather than admit their own errors in judgement, on who the best QB for UGA was, during those golden years. It just don't make sense..."Illogical" as Spock would say.
I got news for ya. Brett Farve wasn't that great either. But, that's not the narrative. Lol. Bennett has some of what Farve and Montana had. He's a winner.
Winning!!!...there is no substitute. Would you rather lose pretty or win ****. That's what it boils down to...at the end of the day. I think given time with any offense....Bennett will find a way to win. With or without a great WR or RB group.
I think a lot of the "fans" you're talking about...are probably, former athletes that weren't willing to "bet on themselves & pay the price"…the way Bennett did. And, come out a winner.
That's not exactly a common theme. Most people that claim to bet on themselves....don't persevere, because they don't go all-in, the way Bennett did...and, as you can see from Bennett's first year in The League....there's a heavy price for pushing yourself that hard. But, the payoff is phenomenal.
I'm sure it's a little bit "envy" and a little bit "awe". IMO....That's what Legends are made of. Bennett will persevere…because that's just "who he is". I'll bet on that, all day long. Lol
No one said Bennett carried anyone’s jock strap and no one was minimizing his college career but to say he did not have an exceptional supporting cast is just ignoring facts. Or some would say, “illogical”.
He had Bowers, McConkey, Pickens, Burton, Washington, Rosemy-Jacksaint and Smith. Just a few more than 2 or 3 and all no longer in school were/are in the NFL.
Running backs included Milton, McIntosh, White, Cook and Edwards.
These are all current or former NFL players.
Add in what was the best O-Line in the country for two years.
Again, no one disparaged Bennett but sometimes, college is your ceiling.
That last bit is true, not only for QB's but every position. There are a lot more college players that go undrafted than drafted every year. Some arent good enough to make it from HS to College, same applies for college players, some have good, even stellar college careers, but just arent NFL material, and their playing days end after college.
Every single one of the receivers you named, was either injured or recovering from injury or between injuries....throughout Bennett's tenure. Every one of em. So…don't try to project a physically limited starting cast, as the reason for Bennett's success. The RB room was about as average as I've ever seen it, in Athens.
If you go doin' that thing, with "the starting cast contribution"....we should probably revisit the narratives on some other more highly touted QB's....like, Bryce Young, Caleb Williams and Justin Fields. I'd say their cast of characters was at least as good as UGA's....if not better.…and only one of em won a Natty.
Though, they didn't all bring home a trophy….they all won Heisman's. Yet.…they seemed to escape the high-powered...[and at times, unjustified, imo]…scrutiny some of National Media & the UGA Fanbase have been inclined to put Bennett under.
A microscope for Bennett....a telescope for everybody else? Hell…that Duggin kid, with TCU got more love than Bennett, from some in the UGA Fanbase.
I just have one question.…"Why?.
I'm not calling you out specifically, @87dawg. I'm not questioning your devotion to your team or laying a judgement on you.
I just find it fascinating, that when UGA Fans finally get the quarterback they've been needing and the Natty's they've been yearning for....they embrace every quarterback in CFB, but, the one God gave em. Old story...different characters. Lol....just because ESPN Experts said so.
Go Dawgs....Stockton is The One.
when discussing Stetson and his surroundings…let’s not forget he had arguably the greatest defense of all time to give him good field position all season long.
Sure they had a bad game in the SECCG but that was one game out of 15. They were the straw that stirred the 2021 drink. I think JT Daniels could’ve had similar success, he just got hurt. In 2022 Stetson was a more imperative member of the squad.
I also take umbrage at “the most average RB room ever seen” because that person is forgetting 2009-2011 or last year. Zeus was really good here considering his injuries and James Cook really bloomed in 21 with his pass catching ability. Throw in Kenny Mac and it was a solid RB room. There’s also some minimizing of his receiving corps also. To talk about the UGA offense in 21 as some plucky group of overachievers is disingenuous.
JT Daniels??….Loved JT, but he certainly didn't have the legs, leadership qualities and instincts/improv/swagger as Stetson. He certainly wouldn't have led the Dawgs to 2 straight titles imo. That is not an easy thing to do no matter what you have/had around you.
Far too many look at arm, size and potential & actually watch the magic that is happening on the field of play. Stetson was a great leader and winner. No idea why some don't recognize that, he may be the best overall QB ever at UGA.
i think you are having some revisionist history on JT. I’ll admit he wasn’t a threat with his legs but his processing and arm were better. If he won in 21 he likely goes pro. So you’re right he wouldn’t have gone back to back. UGA fans forget how good JT was here.
Stetson is absolutely the GOAT UGA QB. And JT might’ve won it all in 21. Both statements can be true.
No one lobbied for JT harder than I did when the QB situation was in flux, but being able to look back in time I can see where SB's ability to scramble and score was his ace in the hole. JT, sad to say, had become fairly brittle and almost a statue back there. He reaaly couldn't excel at WV or the other school in Texas. I still believe JT was the top 2or 3 HS QB's of all time. He just couldn't translate that to the next level.
