"The Big 12 and ACC have pushed the model, which would award automatic bids to the five highest-rated conference champions," All righty then….there's the SEC, ACC, Big 12 and the Big 18….who is the fifth conference champion????…..How bout a 4/12 as I'm all in for these conference champions getting an automatic bid….then bids to the highest ranked teams according to the CFP
The format doesn't concern me nearly as much as the shifting criteria of the selection committee.
The Big Ten (or whatever) is fighting for relevance for the conference. They want their top four and SEC top four to get automatic bids. They are not comparable, top to bottom, with the SEC. They want desperately to catch the SEC in the playoffs after we’ve beat each other up in a 9 game conference season. That might make them look better as a conference after their cupcake conference schedule.
@RedPantsDawg 100 percent agree, we need to stop tweaking the format and let it play out for a few years to see the benefits. Not every team making the playoffs will be competitive, see SMU last year, when they got absolutely blasted by Penn State. We need historical data to judge whether the current system is good or not.
