imageKirby Smart: No secret to Georgia success, how Dawgs aim to stay on top

Smart’s SEC Media Days presentation distinctly focused on maintaining an organizational mindset that has led Georgia into seven of the past eight SEC Championship Games, including last year’s 22-19 overtime triumph over the high-dollar Texas program.

"Smart repeated his offseason buzzphrase — “fire, passion and energy” — several times, a reminder to his now-paid UGA players that hard work is at the core of success."____MG Article

Good Lord..…To be a Dawg today, is pretty close to participating in SEAL training, during "Hell Week"....10 months out of the year. No wonder, Kirby leaks prospective Bulldogs every year. Lol

Can you imagine...running your 40th wind sprint or 100th Suicide....and having a coach in you're ear yelling, "C'mon puppy, your gettin' paid good money for this. Gimme our money's worth or hit the stairs.". Lmao

Imo...it gives coaches a little more Leverage to push guys, than they had before. And, it makes it easier to "clean house" of the loafers and skylarkers.

Georgia would have beaten the cows by more than 15 points if the zebras hadn’t gifted them a TD after changing that call after seeing it replayed on the video board, which is not allowed.

"The Longhorns, now led by Heisman Trophy favorite Arch Manning, have a team payroll between $35-$40 million, per a well-sourced Houston Chronicle report." That is pretty tough to compete with. Handwriting is on the wall unless major changes occur in the financial compensation side of CFB.

The best way to compete with that, is to out-coach em, out-work em and out-think em. Kirby and Co. have been doing a pretty good job of that, so far. But, depth has definitely suffered, due to all the "options to quit", open to players, these days.

Imo...There are no real negative consequences associated with transferring to another Program...whenever and however, one decides to make that move.

Until now...absolutely all of the leverage was on the side of the player. Because, he was assumed to be a Student-Athlete with all the rights and privileges that go with it....as well as, the responsibilities.

Now, he's just another employee...sort of. Lol...I bet they have a "Fine ($) Chart" for everything.

Your comments reminded me of a couple of comments you may have heard. 1) the other team has scholarship D-1 players too. They're pretty good. and 2) CKS, "it is all about recruiting good players. The players are the key". (something to that effect).

UGA still a top program (4-7? Saw a recent prediction that had UGA picked 4th in the SEC this season). Other teams are spending more money buying more players. Just the way it is right now. The margin for error was small before. Now UGA is 50/50 with probably 10 teams in the country.

    I agree, mostly....but...

"Other teams are spending more money buying more players."____ugadad20

That statement is 100% true. However...unlike most of the pundits and reporters...I don't equate that to wins. Looks good on paper, though. Great Coaching wins, great blocking and tackling wins, great defense wins, hard work and study wins.

But, money? Money is just a new crutch for a lot of bad coaches & football programs. Keeps their fans engaged. The Dawgs don't need all that.

Imo....Athleticism, Character, Intelligence & Heart are the main ingredients to any Championship Program. As far as i know...Recruiting Services only measure one of those four traits.…"Athleticism". The other 3 traits are left up to the program to vet, cause they are subjective.

Kirby has gotten better and better at perfecting this formula, for identifying, measuring and analyzing those traits that make up a great "Football Player". I didn't even name the one trait that Kirby looks at before all the others...." Love for the game of football". Ya gotta love it, to excel consistently.

Personally....I think, the more they spend, trying to cover their sorry "No-coaching Asses", the less likely they are to win a Championship and more likely they are, to be coaching elsewhere. So, UGA's set. I think. Lol
