ESPN analyst asks critical question of Georgia wide receivers, even after offseason additions

Yet ESPNâs Bill Connelly is still skeptical if Georgia has enough to really best some of the elite teams Georgia will face in the upcoming season.

I don't disagree with his concerns about the talent at WR. We've got a lot of bodies, but is any of them even better than average? I don't see any as elite by any stretch - even Branch. We had two main problems last season at WR:
But, first things first, the OL has got to block/protect and Gunner has got to have time to throw. It's imperative that we get our running game going consistently to really open up the offense so it can be multi-dimensional and effective. Otherwise, we will struggle against the better competition.
Running game is the key. I miss those road graders we had 5 years ago. Big and violent, they dictated the line of scrimmage. Chubb and Sony had the time of their lives. Wish we could have some of that back. When Pittman was here, he loved the big guys and the running schemes.
Just wondering if he was skeptical about these same players when they were playing at the schools that they transferred from to UGA?
ESPN stands for Extra **** Pretentious Nuts! They remind me of the little Smart Alec that use to be in my class occasionally. All knowing all blown up unlikable turds. An incapable of getting anything right. Why does anyone pay these wastes?
Almost half the drops (near 20) came from two receivers drafted in the NFL. Another six of the 38 came from Dillon Bell forced to play "x" (Dillon's normal spot is "z" or in the slot). Believe at least five of those while repping x. Lovett's drops early were poorly placed passes from Beck and then became psychological as year progressed. Smith had to become the go-to guy out of necessity and is what it is with him.
Top seven receivers this year - Bell playing z & slot (1 drop at where he lines up), Young x, Branch slot, Thomas z & x, Humphreys z & slot, 5 star freshman Taylor z & slot, & and top 10 & 4 star freshman Wiley at x.
Plus depth with dependable veteran Cole Speer (z & x) & electric Sacovie White (slot). Plus freshman Thomas Blackshear is looking solid in preseason workouts and I'm personally excited about what the freshmen Landon Roldan & Jeremy Bell can do.
I could be wrong and it sure wouldn’t be the first time. But I believe we’re gonna be pleasantly surprised by the RB room !! My biggest concern and I hate to sound like a recording, is the O Line. If the O Line can just play pretty good and be Consistent in that I believe pretty good would be enough for the Offense as a whole to be Really good !!
I know it’s allot of IFs but and If they can protect Gunner for just a decent amount of time I believe he and WRs and TEs will do just fine.
And if they can open holes for the RBs they’ll do just fine as well. What I want to see is Consistency in doing Both !! Last years O Line would pass pro pretty good in one game but Not open holes for the RBs. The next game it’d be the reverse with pass pro leaking badly but opening holes pretty decent for the RBs. Then in a few games they got both elements down pretty good.
I’d dearly Love to see our O Line be Great and Elite. That would be Awesome !! But I’d settle for just pretty good as long as they are Consistent in both parts of their job.
One things for sure with all these skeptics, cynics, and naysayers out there constantly bashing on our Dawgs they should have a boulder on their shoulder to want to prove themselves. You know KS is probably feeding them a steady diet of them being the under Dawg !! That’s a good thing. No rat poison !! Go Dawgs !!
IMO, the '24 drop narrative is a bit overdone and there were nuances as you alluded. UGA had a great passing season in '24. We were 12th in CFB for yardage. Smith was unusual as a WR—very fast, very experienced, a hard worker and leader. As we observed, his weakness was catching the ball. If he had caught the balls he should have caught, UGA would have probably been in the top five, or very close. My point is that Bobo had a much better passing game than folks realize. Simply running the ball better and securing catchable balls will put UGA's offense in the top tier imo. The OL is the key this year, not the WRs. We have more than enough talent among the position players to be a top five O.
The drops that occurred sure didn't help the offence, but they won't happen every year. The play of the OL makes the offence go—it determines passing and running success. There is no gurley, Chubb or A.J. Green without them.
