Mike Bobo on Georgia QB Gunner Stockton: He wants 'to go get everything'

The Georgia offensive coordinator, perhaps more than anyone in the history of the program, understands the pressure to produce on the offensive side of the football. For all the years he has been the teamâs offensive coordinator on quarterbacks coach, Bobo was also the starting quarterback at Georgia.

Question #1 (brook?) in the press conference: why did offense start slow last season?
Answer:
🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
it’s never Mike’s fault
Here is to a far-less injured and much improved OL. And being much better at the outside WR position.
If those 2 things happen, then throw in Gunner's running threat, the running game should be MUCH improved and then it is on Bobo to produce. And he will I have no doubt about it. And last seasons offense will be a distant memory.
It all starts with the OL, especially against the tough opponents. Last year we did not have a defense that could hold a good opponent to one TD either, 2 at most, like we have over the last few years, to compensate for and cover the offense. Or a defense that gave the offense several more possessions a game. A bad combination where neither the offense or defense helped the other, not complimentary football at all. Still won the SEC!
Every piece seems to now be in place if Gunner and Branch can connect. Really high on the addition of Thomas at WR.
So all that being said, now it would appear to come down to the OL. Come on O-Line!
To end this, if we do improve on both sides of the ball, play complimentary football again, we will be VERY hard to beat and the favorite to win the SEC in my mind.
"everything doesn’t have to be a howitzer, learning how to layer the ball,” Bobo said.
When I saw this headline for another article on GS THIS is what I thought of. GS has 2 speeds on his throws. 1) nice arching deep ball and 2) line drive throw it through the wall fastball. The fact that everything is still a howitzer after 3 years of UGA practices is, in itself, concerning.
Going to be real interesting this year to see what GS can do after 3 years of practicing under CMB.
"So he’s got to protect himself when he does decide to pull the ball down and run the ball", CMB. Shades of '19 and Jake Fromm. Can't afford to take a risk running GS when there is no experience behind him. Don't expect to see GS running a lot. He will run a minimal amount. He may get CKS's wrath if he reverts too often to his HS style and runs too much.
No sarcasm just a fact, what ever he ( Gunner) did in HS must have worked as he set HS State records in his senior year. I would think that SEC/Dawgs caliber receivers should be more adept at catching the ball than a group of HS receivers.
Just Me but I interpreted what Bobo said as knowing When to layer the ball vs howitzer, Not that every throw Gunner makes IS a howitzer. We All saw him make some nice deep throws in his limited time last season.
Sometimes to slot receivers he’ll Need to throw a howitzer, but they need to catch it. Just my opinion of what Bobo was trying to convey about Gunner. I could be very wrong and it certainly wouldn’t be the first time, but and if Gunner gets proper playmaking by his O Line and receivers I believe Dawgs fans are gonna be very excited and happy with what they see. I hope I’m right for All things Dawgs sakes. We’ll see…….
I'm sure under Bobo's tutelage Stockton will perfect the sideline pass and glory in the two or three yards it produces.
