Our run blocking in short yardage is just awful. I just don't get it why this is. Lack of development? (Serales)
Had way too many 4th down plays because they couldn’t pick up third downs. I just don’t get the continued lack of consistent push from the O line. Perhaps it’s the injuries and lack of consistent playing together or whatever but the O line continues to be a concern. Many times, the box had 8-9 in the box and no one checked out so I’m not sure if a solid push is even possible. If someone is loading the box, there needs to be plays to make them pay and loosen it up. Too many TE possibilities and the new receiver corps to have to try and force the runs if the box is loaded.
Also, love Phillips being recognized as stock way up. He was a beast - not just quick and fast but he was plowing defenders and was not an easy tackle. Very impressed with Phillips for sure.
Stock down on the defense? Really! They pitched a shutout until the put in members of the band!
This game was exactly what I expected it to be...."a warmup". Just a practice game, with lots of subs and nothin' fancy. I wouldn't make any more or less, of this game....if they had blown Marshall out 100 to Zip.
That being said....Stockton and Branch were breaths of fresh air, for the Dawgs. We'll be seeing a lot more of Mister Branch and his buddies Lucky & Colby [and they have friends too
, Lol]. For the last 2 years, Bobo was hamstrung with an anchor for a QB.…namely Carson Beck. Very little room for innovation. This year, i expect the unexpected. Lol
Beck had a "Great arm".…with no receivers, no protection and no legs....makes for an ineffective & inconsistent quarterback. And, that's what Carson brought to the table over the last 2 years....imo.
IMO...You'd have to have, one heck of a Defense & ST Unit to have a chance. Which the Dawgs didn't have, at that time. This year?....They have it ALL....imo.
Zion Branch led the WR's? Lol. Pretty sure it was his brother Zachariah but Zion did have 7 tackles on the day.
Mike…you been hitttin' the cooking cherry again? Zachariah Branch is stock up…not Zion..unless we were watching different games…lololol. Zion did okay. Zachariah excelled.
Imo....Z Branch and Gunner, will both be in the Heiaman conversation...soon. Nobody else appears set to run away with it, either. So....why not. They have the recipe.
Go Dawgs!
Delp continues to put the ball on the ground, just like last year. There are too many other options at TE to allow him to play like that.
Georgia played very vanilla today. They’ll probably do the same next week, too. It’s too soon to be heaping praise or criticism on anyone or position group until we play that gaudy orange team to really find out what kind of team we have.
Go Dawgs!
Lol....you might be right.
Texas is the only team, I see, with the capability to beat the Dawgs....IF....everything goes right for the Longhorns.
And, there's a few teams capable of beating the Dawgs...IF....the Dawgs fall apart in 3 or more areas.
But, the most likely Team to beat the Dawgs....IS....The Dawgs.
Since none of those scenarios appear eminent....might as well kick back and enjoy the show.
Great game Hairy ones!. Lots of "effort, hustle & fury". Keep on keepin' on.
y’all, calm down. We been waiting for 7 months for this!
I feel what we saw in front of us was a combination of wanting a vanilla game plan and getting the rust knocked off.
I loved our wr’s and Phillips. Also the defense looked great with starters, allowed 40 yards in the first half. Y’all remember Umass game last year? Yeesh!
The havoc rate, when a team runs the ball or gets the ball out fast you won’t get sacks. Let’s look at qb hurries though. I guarantee those qbs from Marshall want nothing to do with coming back to Athens.
All in all, very pleased. So glad football is here and looking forward to the season ahead
I'm glad somebody besides me noticed how Zion Branch was flying to the ball and really sticking the ball carriers! He might need to play more!
