I agree with all of Mike’s assessments from game 1. Losing Gaston for any length of time is a problem. I would start Jah Jackson at RT and bench EG, or move him to OG. I would also say that our RBs missed some holes and cut it inside when there was room to bounce it outside

He got to use #11 and #9 for the explosive plays on offense. #86 and #4 has not made progress. They have top their abilities. #20 has the James Cook role. You got to use those weapons on offense. Plus put #12 in for the passing game. He has so much passing potential than #14. Just wait against team like Alabama, Texas, Tennessee and Florida. You got to use the best player . They might be Freshman but they got that it!!! Factor

You just can’t get over how Gunner stole your GF Lol !! Dollar General has crying towels fairly cheap. Get you a bunch !! 🤣

Per This Website DawgNation here’s what Kirby Smart the Head Coach had to say about Gunner after the game: “Proud of Gunner. Great leader, great competitor. Just does it the right way. Got us out of some negative plays. Had too many times that we could have been sacked, that he escaped. He took care of the ball well, made good decisions, made good reads on his pulls. Continues to distribute the ball and did a nice job.”
Any Dawgs fan that’s been watching and reading Dawgs football since Kirby became HC knows he’s slow to lavish out praise and only says what he means in that regard. Had he been disappointed with Gunner He Would Have Said So.

As he sees Gunner in practices as well as games and knows Far More than the average fan I’ll take Kirby’s assessment over any fan or media to for that matter.

It’s very obvious that Mr. CD Dawgs has something personal against Gunner as he comes on waaay to strong with the negativity on every comment he makes about Gunner. So maybe Gunner while in HS kicked CD’s HS azz or maybe he really did steal away his GF.

Either way I will defend Gunner And Puglisi and Any of our other QBs against such rash and overly harsh comments as best I can. If it gets me banned Oh Well. But there’s No Reason for a person calling themself a Dawgs fan to be That harsh on one of our players.

That goes far beyond the pale of merely being objective. If at some point Kirby does fire Gunner I’ll fully support Puglisi. But If or until then Gunner is the man and I support him. And I sure hope the majority of Dawgs nation will to. Go Dawgs !!

Did anyone being reasonable honestly think that KS and Bobo were gonna throw the playbook wide open for Marshall ? Allow me to help, NO !! They ran about as vanilla as you could go with and Still tromped Marshall just as we expected.
Look for more of the same vs Austin Peay.
And be assured if We saw some issues they ( the coaches) saw them to. Game #1 and Game #2 are about Learning. STILL we’ve seen our Dawgs get off to Very slow starts in games like these in the past. That didn’t happen this time around they got off to a very fast start, though Yes they did slow down some about midway of the second qtr.

I would suggest wait till the game in Knoxville before trying to get a season reading. And even then it’s Very early to cheer To loud about success Or pull the fire alarm about the lack of success. Go Dawgs !!

"Yet, Georgia was forced to punt on three of its first six offensive possessions.", and had to convert 4th downs on the other 3 possessions! That was very concerning.

"Stockton’s longest “air yards” completion traveled 26 yards from the line of scrimmage to Oscar Delp and appeared to be under thrown."____MG

IMO....THAT is the most telling "stat", on Kirby & Bobo's approach to quarterback employment in the game.

In 2021.…Monkin turn't Bennett loose on UAB....where hethrew 5 long TD's....or something in that neighborhood. Not because they needed to.…but, because Bennett needed confidence going into the season. He had only been there a year or two.

Including the COVID Year....which limited Player-Coach contact and coaching. A lost year for a developing QB...Imo.

I say that....because, Stockton is not in that boat. He's been there, developing for the last 3 years, give or take. Bobo has been working with him one-on-one and they trust each orher.

In other words....Stockton doesn't NEED the reassurance that Bennett got against UAB. Don't expect him to light up the sky against Austin Peay, either. Ground game & chemistry, is priority, right now....imo.

your reasoning doesn’t make much sense here. Stetson has played much more games in than Gunner has in 25. Game reps count. Either they told Gunner to not throw in the middle, or he chose not to. I’d like to not repeat the Jake Fromm allergy to passing over the middle. We got some big and fast guys who can chew up some chunk plays there in the middle.

I see what both you and @BigDawg61 are saying. I think the over the middle passes will be coming pretty soon. Probably to Dillon Bell, Lawson Luckie, Delp, Cash Jones would be some of the guys I expect to see catching balls over the middle probably vs the Vols. I’ve got a feeling we’ll see more run, run, run with some short to intermediate passes in game 2.

yeah I’m waiting till sec play till I make any definitive judgement on the offense. Saw some things I liked and some I didn’t.

  • BigDawg61BigDawg61 Posts: 2,948 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

Yep....that's the other telling detail. No significant passes to the RB's.…no Jes Cook, K Mac...or speedy back on the edge to run the wheel route. Unless I missed it....wasn't payin' close attention. Lol

No worries. The Dawgs'll be there in December.

@Kasey Bennett threw those 5 consecutive TD passes in his very 1st start. It was the 2nd game of the year. AFTER the Clemson Game...when Daniels injured his torso.

Imo....Bennett needed the confidence....Smart & Monkin didn't necessarily need to see it. They knew that play would be there aga8nst UAB...Kent State, Middle Tenn...or anybody else they play from that league. It's...." Inevitable". Lolol

  • BigDawg61BigDawg61 Posts: 2,948 ✭✭✭✭✭ Graduate

You're right of course. Bennett did play, in '20....but, there wasn't a concensus on the QB. There was more of a quarterback-by-committee in '20.…due to a number of issues.

Imo...Bennett lost a lot of confidence in '20. but, he gained all back in one game versus UAB.

That’s honest and reasonable on your part. There’s most definitely work to be done and unfortunately time is not a friend now. But with the more vanilla than banana pudding game plan I thought they did pretty decent over all. I watched the game on TV and the program started with clips from the SECCG. Gunner dodged TX defenders for a very nice run. Then later a nice deep pass to Arian Smith. Gunner Does have the arm strength. If anything he needs to work on touch. But as far as ability to get the ball down field With Strength he has that.
I get annoyed with the tiny section of Dawgs fans wanting to fire Gunner before he even gets started good. To me that’s ridiculous . Now if he crumbles badly and HE puts the team in peril then yeah bring in Puglisi. I have Nothing at all against Pugs. But for now it should be Gunner’s job to keep as long as he does his job.
