Georgia WR pinpoints possible issue for Gunner Stockton: âHe wants to be perfectâ

The current version of Wilson is a far cry from that. In the Giantsâ season-opening loss to Washington, Wilson completed 17 of his 37 pass attempts for 168 yards. New York did not score a touchdown.

I read this and what I get from it is a quarterback that is wound far too tightly. He needs to loosen up and have fun with his game. The push for perfection leads to failure. Being the best you can be does not mean you are perfect.
I am not knocking Stockton and I am 100% behind him but he has not impressed me at all so far and I know he has the skills that can impress. Hopefully it is the play calling and holding back against what was supposed to be lesser opponents but even watching his play he looks too wound up. I want to see the emotion and enjoyment of the game and a fluid, at ease leader of the offense.
O-line, O-line, O-line!!!
Perfect is the enemy of good enough. If Stockton can't check off during his passing progressions and sling catchable balls, then CKS needs to play Puglisi. Puglisi's got a huge upside. He's a precision passer and is several inches taller than Stockton. Stockton's gotten every opportunity in the world since signing with UGA….
Remember, Mike Bobo is the Offensive Coordinator. He is responsible for the performance of the QB, the receiver room, the TEs, the RBs, and the OL. If they can't ball, then Bobo's gotta go regardless of how good of a friend of the coach he may be. it is affecting the team. Bobo needs to go along with a couple of his assistants. The Tennessee game will be telling.
Some guys are better in-game players than practice players (Hershel is an example). Other guys are great practice players but can’t replicate that in actual games. This game against Tennessee will go a long way in establishing what type of player Gunner is at the college level.
Nothing's perfect. The Vols will have their top (2) CBs out with injuries against the Dawgs. A PERFECT setup for more vertical passing, right???
I don't need a 67 yard pass play. Give me 20-30 yards and the occasional wheel route. Use of the TEs across the middle. Give us something !!
The only way Gunner will get confidence is completing passes during a game…especially a high profile game. He can keep practicing until he is blue in the face, but he must get ready for adversity and accept the occasional sloppy play. Give pass plays enough time to develop and make your reads. You can do it Gunner!!
Stockton needs to concentrate on being competent! So far, we are lucky we have played 2 weak teams, one of which gave our offense fits. I think we have seen all that Gunner can do and it is not much. If the season is going to be a wash with Gunner, why not give the ball to Puglisi so that we have a competent, ready QB for next year?
I did not like the play calling or the play of the QB and O line. Having said that I do not expect Saturday to be easy and hopefully we improve in these aspects of the game.
Here was Oregon's offense big play making ability on display against OK State Saturday…Ducks Redshirt Sophomore QB Dante Moore (also a WR named Dante Moore) has completed 77% of his passes (479 yards) through the first 2 games. He has thrown (6) TDs as well. He was 16/21, 266 yards, and (3) TDs against Ok State. No interceptions.
A 67-yard touchdown to WR Dante Moore
A 28-yard completion to Gary Bryant Jr. and an 11-yard touchdown
A gorgeous 42-yard post pattern to Malik Benson for a touchdown
A 26-yard crossing route to Kenyon Sadiq
Catches of 51 and 25 yards to Jeremiah McClellan
Plus explosive running plays:
59-yard touchdown run by Noah Whittington
25-yard touchdown run by Dakorien Moore
53-yard run by Jayden Limar
This is the kind of thing Kirby wants to see. But will we?
I do know that TN is playing very well as a cohesive unit. Georgia is from time to time. Too many Oline injuries of key players, causing rotating players in and out to try and compensate as this article points up. On-field experience will settle Gunner. He practices as hard as anyone on this team. Kirby has faith in him. So do I. This game will be a real test for the Dawgs. They have overcome before against the Vols. They just might do it once again. Go Dawgs!
I think back to the time Jacob Eason went down against App State and Jake Fromm came in… In a lot of ways that was a magical season. Some players just have "it" when it's game time. Game time is way different from practice time. I'm not ready to bail on Gunner yet, but what little I've seen of Puglisi was impressive. Decisive, quick release, and what appears to be a powerful arm. That being said, big boy football is always going to be won and lost in the trenches. If your quarterback is running for his life all day then you're team is in big trouble. This Saturday should answer a lot of questions about where Gunner and this team really are.
Gunner really needs to unload. Looks like he's getting thru his reads a little too quick sometimes and missing opportunities. There was one time he had a home run chance but had to dump it off short because of the O-line breakdown. Then there are other times he's holding the ball too long, waiting on the receiver to be in the perfect spot……can't do that. And if in the redzone and Colbie Young has a smaller DB on him, gotta hit that fade route. Bobo helped Stafford with this years ago so it can be done. Need some touch on that ball. He's capable. Good game management. Just needs to let it rip and not worry.
Good/fair points - thinking with better line play those things get corrected…and I’m thinking most of that gets better with experience & good health (team).
Gunner is not going to be perfect, but he gets better imo - just let him play.
50 plus percent of the roster being freshman or sophomores is tough…just got to play through it all. Not ideal, but that is the way it is right now.
Support, trust the staff and process & things will progress imo - have no reason to believe otherwise.
It’s a long season…
yeah and Sark should have started Manning last year right? Kirby knows who is the best QB. Just like Sark knew Manning was not close to being ready. Start Puglisi going to TN then Bama? You must be outside of your mind
I do not need nothing but a WIN. Do not care is Gunner completes 25 5 yard passes and 1 long one. Or none. Just win and figure out the rest as the season goes along. And rest assured these 2 games were not about putting up stats at all, it was about evaluation and giving TN as little as possible to prepare for and get the running game going as the centerpiece. Sure Kirby could have had Bobo dial up a lot of longer plays and told Gunner to sling it like Bama did, but Bama tipped their hand going forward to take some temporary heat off. Helps us in a few weeks. Kirby has shown nothing.
But that being said, it all starts with the OL. We do not need another year or musical chairs on the OL, the anchor, the foundation of the entire offense. So far, that is what we have had and that .
We will not know anything until after the TN game. The truth is, all of this is pure speculation right now, as far as what our offense really is.
same here, just win. It would have been fun to watch the naysayers/critics thru the ‘80 season…if they didn’t jump ship beforehand.
