âProve itâ time for Gunner Stockton; Joey Aguilar has âway differentâ challenge vs. Georgia

The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs kick off against the No. 15-ranked Vols at 3:45 p.m. (TV: ABC) at Neyland Stadium with momentum on the line for both of the College Football Playoff contenders.

Gunner has been in two high profile games, the SECCG and playoffs vs ND. Even though the later was a loss it also served as a learning moment. The tone I’m getting from rivals and even some of our own fans is Gunner can’t cut it.
And they are basing that on two cupcake games where the playbook was Obviously locked down and the idea was run, run, run, and Stop the opponents run. The Dawgs did exactly that and achieved the goals they set out to.
No disrespect to Aguilar but beating up on a cupcake doesn’t prove Anything in the SEC. In fact it’s possible they revealed to much of themselves to a very hungry Kirby Smart defense.
I Hope our Dawgs will win. I Believe they can. But this I Know our Dawgs will come in to play hard nosed football. Vols not facing a cupcake today !! Go Dawgs !! Go Gunner !! Beat them Vols !!
Run, Run, Run plus play everybody. The onus also is on our offensive coordinator to show management skills at a higher level.
BTW. My freaking bird app selected my bird of the day this morning, ‘a Tennessee warbler’. I prefer to look at it as a sign of their “physicality” today.
Regretfully, Aguilar wins the day. Gunners last game as a starter, if our coaching staff does the right thing.
great points and I hope you are correct. I disagree on the point of the scheme dictating his short passes. If you watch some of the breakdowns, there are open receivers downfield that he either doesn’t see or isn’t confident to make the throw. Some are more timing. He appears (and I don’t present myself as any kind of expert) to be waiting for receivers to be open as opposed to throwing slightly before and hitting them, or locking in on a specific route. That isn’t scheme to me; that’s a QB that for whatever reason has lost a smidge of mojo that I sure hope he rediscovers today because it will be needed.
Great comments as usual Navy Dawg, and as an Army Dawg, I appreciate all of them. We both agree on GO DAWGS!!
Great comments from you as well my Brother. Hey you could be right about Gunner but I sure hope you’re wrong. It Might be that he’s TO concerned about throwing an INT or taking a Sack. IF that’s the case Bobo needs to coach him to just go out there and play football, loosen up, have fun. Gunner has to good of a background historically to just fall to pieces. IF that happens I don’t think it’d be All on him. I think there’d be a coaching problem in there some where. We’ll see …….. Oh and as I always appreciate your posts and you Are my Brother in Arms and Dawgs here’s one for you: Go Army !!!!!
“Prove it time for Gunner Stockton”:
Going back to your ole “honey hole” for reactions I see - the QB position.
Team game, one player doesn’t make the team….and, the offense goes nowhere without the OL.
Amen !! Preach on my Brother !! IF the O Line can be truly dominate it would be Huge in helping Gunner. Not just in his pass game but in relief by running the ball Allot.
I’m certainly not an expert or coach or anything. But I’ve heard all my years that If your team has the ability to run the ball then you do just that until the opposition shows they can stop it.
Like most fans I love a beautifully thrown deep ball as much as anybody. But and If you can Run the ball you can win Allot of football Even against good defenses using short to intermediate throws.
What you Don’t want your QB to do is throw INTs and take Sacks. And it’s possible Gunner is To fixated on that.
But if he can steadily move the Offense down field living more on the run with those short passes do we or Should we really care ?? Long drives gas opposing defenses much more than three quick deep balls. Go Dawgs !!
The Bugs are looking pretty efficient on Both sides of the ball vs Clems’on right now. Up 10-0. Our Dawgs have a tough row to hoe this year !! Strength of schedule ought to count for us !!
Gunner doesn't need to prove anything. The thing that'll get you in hot water with Kirby is turnovers. So continue managing the game, take what the defense gives you and handle the ball wisely. He does need to get the ball out quicker. Gotta trust his receivers as he anticipates their cuts or comebacks. He had some opportunities downfield last week but O-line breakdowns caused him to either run or dump it off short. Needs to look to throw on the run as well. They do use the screen and bubble screens pretty well - just don't over use it. As far as the deep ball, there was a guy not too long ago that caught grief because he wasn't throwing down the field - that guy went on to help lead UGA to 2 National Championships. Gunner will be fine.
“Only one will have a happy ending on Saturday.” Wow, undoubtedly Conner doesn’t know the meaning of a “happy ending “😂😂😂 Go dawgs!!!
anybody that gives it his all and more the way he does, I will support, pretty sure his teammates are doing the same.
Gunner is a warrior and a leader. So far he hasn’t showed me he can’t get it done. Too many naysayers up in the “peanut gallery” slinging poo.
“Same as it ever was” ….100% behind him until proven otherwise.
