Georgia football-Tennessee instant observations as Bulldogs pull out overtime thriller

Comments
Maybe now they'll start showing "wide right" every year instead of the decade old hail Mary.
"But, for the second consecutive week, it struggled to finish drives. The Bulldogs ended up settling for three field goals. Two of them came in the red zone, while a third came after Georgia was gifted great field position following an interception. "
Georgia scored 44 (essentially 45) points on the road against a ranked SEC team with a QB starting his second major college football game, a sophomore starting tailback and a WR room that was overhauled from last year (the sole major returnee, Dillon Bell, had 4 catches for 23 yards … I guess @MikeGriffith has stopped comparing him to Deebo Samuel). Not sure how much more you wanted or why.
Speaking of the overhauled WR room … notice how the drops have suddenly stopped. No, it wasn't the QB switch to Stockton. First, there were drops in the second half against Texas and against Notre Dame also. Second, drops haven't been an issue for Carson Beck in Miami (who is about to go 3-0 with 2 wins against ranked teams). I admit that Zechariah Branch is a bit better than I thought he was, but his coming in and becoming UGA's clear #1 guy on offense - all 5'10" 180 lbs of him - just exposes what the UGA WR and TE room was in 2023 and 2024 beyond Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey (not much).
Speaking of TEs, Luckie and Delp combined for 4 catches for 43 yards. Maybe now people are going to stop expecting Brock Bowers productivity from them just because they play his position? They are complimentary players. And oh yes, even the broadcast announcers noted that Luckie and Delp weren't much help with run blocking or pass blocking.
@E_Roc No, a Hail Mary is always more dramatic than a kicker doing a choke job on a field goal. But that is what Heupel gets for blatantly playing for a long field goal in the first place.
All th negativity coming from so many of the “experts “ on this site about Coach Bobo and Gunner is really comical. Both performances were outstanding!
we got to get TDs not FGs. This game would not have been close if we got touchdowns but I’m still proud of how they responded
Show have won in 2016 but the penalty on the kickoff gave them the distance to score
HBTFD, huh?!?!
It would be a good clip for the old ABC’s Wide World of Sports “agony of defeat” bit, though.
This team has some problems( o line CBs) but QB isn’t one of them. A lot of y’all owe him an apology. Also Bobo called a good game. Go Dawgs
I will eat my crow. I am still not sure if he can take us to the top but that may not be his fault as much as it is Searles coaching and Bobo going conservative at times. Bobos QB coaching could be an issue too. The OL is not very good and 52 missed on so many blocks, I quit counting. But apologies to Stockton. He played a solid game.
Pass Rush and Secondary were awful today. I expected more from the defense. Very glad the offense showed up enough to pull out the win. Go Dawgs!!
A great day to be a Georgia Bulldog!! A resilient group of players with a lot of heart.
Gunner did an admirable job, but he still is a work-in-progress. He kept his composure and played a great game on the road. I'd still like to see more accuracy down the field, but he did make a few beautiful passes.
The hard running by Frazier and McCray was awesome to see! Young and Branch were key in the passing game. The O-line played great at times (especially the 1st drive of the 2nd half), and then we're pushed around other times. The right side needs help!
Bobo frustrated the heck out of me, refusing to give up on running the ball on 2 back-to-back series even though we gained 4 total yards on 5 rushing attempts, then an incomplete pass. 3 and outs on both series. Soon afterwards, TN scored and went ahead. We went way conservative on the play calling, instead of going for the jugular.
We definitely know more about this team now, both good and not-so-good. Overall though, you gotta like the guts and heart of this team and the performance. They never gave up!
GO DAWGS!!
It should have never come down to the way it ended. Georgia should have been up by at least two TDs if they had scored TDs instead of kicking FGs, especially inside the 5 yard line. FGs are not acceptable that close to the goal line. Happy and relieved for the win.
The youth showed but them young pups never quit, dmmm proud. Go dawgs!
A win is a win. But UGA got lucky that a missed FG kept them in it. UGA had a perfect opportunity to put the game away in the second half with short fields. Score even once and the pressure is all on the Vols. Instead, Bobo squandered great field position with inexplicable runs up the gut. After that Tennessee found new life and seemed back to first quarter swagger. Keep the foot on the gas! This was a gutty win though. I feel like I just had a baby.
