it’s true that a good pass rush goes hand in hand with the defensive backs on coverage to limit the time the receivers can work their way open. But for me, the defensive backs are the most concerning of the three mentioned above. Numerous times against the Vols, our secondary looked completely lost. Orange jerseys running wide open all over the field. Kirby says it’s fixable, in Kirby I trust! Go Dawgs!

I agree this is the most concerning. But, if the breakdown is truly contributable to being "lost" as opposed to being over matched by the Vol's talent, that is certainly fixable.

@MikeGriffith Very good read Mike !! Thank You !! My mind is as slippery as a red clay road on a rainy night in Ga. but our O Line didn’t have any false starts or holding calls if I remember right ? I want to think one of our TEs might have got called for holding ? Any who with the rotation of players and injuries it’s pretty exceptional they’ve avoided penalties. Now if they can just shore up the right side effectively maybe we can make hay !!

I’m trusting in KS to fix the secondary issues. As far as DTs and DEs all I can ask of them is give their all at those positions. I’m not sure we have enough quality personnel to be a real beast at those positions. So our outside LBs are gonna have to be the difference makers. When I say I’m not sure if we have enough quality personnel at DT and DE I’m talking game long.
We do have enough for some plays but KS likes to rotate players in to keep them fresh so there’s some fall off when the more experienced guys leave the field for a breather. But I’m sure Schumann knows much better than me when to bring the more aggressive pass rush. It’ll all work out. Go Dawgs !!

I was just thinking the same thing this AM. Can't explain what happened but the DAWGS manhandled what was supposed to be the best O line in the conference. They not only did it once, but twice and I'm hoping the same proverbial light switch gets flipped Saturday night. Go DAWGS!

When Smart took the helm at UGA, he pulled in some great coordinators and assistant coaches. As the wins piled up, other schools started poaching the best assistant coaches for promotions with larger salaries. Over time, these departing quality assistant coaches were replaced in general with lesser-than coaches, with one notable exception in Monken who stayed three years then left for the NFL. We all know the problems with Bobo and Searles, but I am starting to actully wonder about Schumann too. You see, he was one of the only original assistants that has not departed on his own or been sought after for a head coaching job. Schumann has a quiet disposition, unlike most defensive coaches. Muschamp helped him out in actively coaching, but with Muschamp playing a more minor role every year, it might be prudent to start searching for a world class DC in addition to our OC and OL coaches.

If I'm not mistaken, Shoe has been in serious conversations for external promotions. He's also been an absolute rock star for our LB recruiting. As for his demeanor, I don't have much visibility to that since we don't see practices or much game footage; but I can say from my own experience that an incredibly intense and passionate person can have a quieter disposition. Upshot is I think we're pretty lucky to have him, upgrades easier elsewhere. Go Dawgs!

We all agree the right side of the line has been by far the weakest link. But in not totally sold on Monroe Freeling. Go back and look at the film (Tenn. game alone). He is suspect.

To the point of our DC…he is a great asset to our team. May not be the BEST DC but the BEST linebacker coach hands down. We are blessed he has turned down other jobs.
