I watched some of the game replay on SEC network on Sunday, and found it interesting that they cut out the first half segment from auburn’s first down near the goal line to the 1 minute remaining point. They took out the first td review, the fumble review, the targetting and roughing the passer plays. While I can understand the frustration with the time for the end of half one, I agree that the refs seemed to get the calls right. All except the Kirby t/o. I think they should have charged us one which would have been just as irrelevant as what they actually did. Two podcasters I occasionally listen to, Josh pate and Feinbaum, and of course all the Auburn fans all chastised the officials as calling the worst game they’ve seen. It was painful, but mostly correct.

It makes no sense that the ball was called a fumble and put on the 1 yard line. It should've been either an Auburn touchdown or a Georgia touchdown. The ball was loose rolling around on top of the pile when Kyron Jones grabbed it and, without going down, ran the length of the field and scored. The placement of the ball on the 1 meant Arnold was down, but he was 3 feet in the air on a pile of bodies.

Putting the blindside block call on Cash Jonestown rest…It appears to be a great block but while many argue that Jones block was not a blind side block, unfortunately by the letter of the rule it was.

The components of an illegal blindside block are:

    1. Outside the free-blocking zone which the incident clearly was 5 yards downfield (free blocking zone is 4 yards left and right of the point of the snap and extends 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage)
    2. Forceful contact (interpreted as the opponent is knocked to the ground), check!
    3. The opponent does not see the blocker approaching which on this case is arguable…and
    4. The blocker does not initiate with the hands, Unfortunately, Cash blocked the opponent with a right shoulder and head to the chest and neck area, and he certainly did not execute the block with open hands as required.

In summary, while the block appeared to be a big, beautiful old school football block, in today’s woke world of making the violent game a little safer and softer, the call was a correct one.

I wonder if the Auburn AD will put out another whiny X message lamenting the poor treatment Aubarn gets from the officials. The most telling stat is the # of penalties over the past 3 games. This is clearly a team that lacks discipline while playing. Those penalties were all legit and if anyone got shorted by the officials it is Georgia via 2 calls/no calls - the fumble TD was a blatant miss and the personal foul on Jones was the other. The CB that was ejected should've been called for unsportsmanship when he stood over the receiver in the first quarter and was talking trash after a miss.

Aubarn always whines and that's what you get when you have a celebration for a guy that spent a total of 10-months on campus as if he is a true alum of the school. Plus, he dresses like a clown. On to Ole Miss and Go DAWGS!

@Gramster - You make some valid points. However it was not a blindside block. Therefore, element #3 is not satisfied imo.

@lucydog - Amen Lucy. Somebody scored a TD on that play. The officials are basically incompetent.

Maybe I missed it but don't see any mention of the 4th and 3 conversion at the 40 yd line with roughly 5 minutes left being up by 3. This coming after the failed 3rd and one. If that conversion fails AUB had plenty of time to score. Pretty gutsy play calling and execution.

"Gramster"—Thanks for that. You are correct—30 years ago that would be viewed as an excellent, and very legal, block.

Not to point out the obvious that the flag was thrown and penalty for blindside block was enforced, therefore someone thought, and the review booth confirmed, that the elements were satisfied, what I did say was element 3 was arguable at best as neither you or I can or cannot determine what the defensive player saw or did not see but with that said, this is certainly an opinion blog and I respect your opinion whether I agree or not. One thing you won't here me say is that it was a **** play by Cash, it certainly was not! The kid is a baller. Cheers @JBMDawg46
