Jared Curtis: The 5-star UGA commit looks like the best player in America

Welcome to "Sentell's Intel" where Jeff Sentell not only provides you the latest recruiting information, he takes you into the homes of these students and what makes them special to the Georgia program.

He must be prepared to sit for a year with GS returning, after that it looks like we've got a good one.
There's a Winston Wolf quote that applies here, but I can't say it because it's dirty and I'd be censored.
I hope it pans out but Kirby doesn’t have the best track record of developing a 5-star QB. Also, high school ball isn’t the same as SEC ball. Still it’s good to have him in the fold
Read an article in The Athletic a couple of weeks ago where several school recruiting officials anonymously rated the 2026 QB’s based upon what they’ve seen this year. Curtis was only mentioned once. The kid going to Oklahoma was everyone’s “he’s gonna be a star” pick.
The reason UGA fans are not overly enthusiastic about any recruit (especially King Curtis based on his history ) is that until the LOI is signed and the player is on campus you never know if the commitment will stick. We just went through this with Raiola. In recruiting '25 we'll believe it when we see it.
Speaking of QB's, Maiava (remember him?) Is lighting it up for 5-1 USC. 1800 yrds 72% completion % 13/2 td/int 186 QB rating .
In all honesty until a recruit actually signs and shows up on campus it’s sort of risky to get overly excited. Sign of the times it is what it is. If he follows through he sounds like a great get for Kirby and company though.
even if Curtis does sign (which I believe he will) will he beat out who’s already here? I think he will wait his turn for when Gunner comes back next season, but will he wait through 2027? I’m dubious. Kirby also seems more comfortable with the high floor/low ceiling guy who can check into the right play more than has the elite physical skills.
I’ll believe Jared Curtis as QB1 when I see it between the hedges.
Looks like we could use their play caller also
That is why Sentell said "for a couple of years". Instead of 3. But, we never know, he just might blow the coaches away, learn the playbook and not throw INT's and win the job. That would **** for Puglisi. And Gunner. Puglisi may overtake Gunner come 2026 if he finally stay healthy. May he sign on the dotted line first. And then, may the best QB win the job. But my money is on him starting in 2027.
Sorry, I'm not buying the hype. Playing QB in college vs high school is comparing apples and oranges. We've seen SO many 4 and 5 star dudes coming out of high school that have either not lived up to their billing or flamed out spectacularly that there's a better chance you'll be a flop than a superstar. The college game is so much more involved and harder than what those guys see in hs.
I expect Gunner to be back with Georgia next season, probably starting (unless Ryan stays at UGA & beats him out somehow), if I know the way Kirby uses his QBs. Curtis won't be on the field starting in a game before 2027 at the earliest, and that assumes he stays with Georgia. We all know that Georgia's track record with developing QBs and retaining elite QBs is not good, so I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Jared never starts a game in the Georgia uniform.
The writer states that there are too many pressing issues on the current offense, blah ,blah… I think that starts to come to and end beginning this Saturday. The OL is getting better, played well against a good Auburn front, which by the way is much better than Kiffen's defense this year. The Dawgs get a statement win against a ranked team this week and will look good doing it. The perception of Georgia will change after Saturday.
It's really hard to follow recruiting for your average fan without going into it with a Debbie-Downer attitude. The Portal and NIL have made recruiting an "edge of the seat" undertaking. What once was a joyous and exciting endeavour has been become one involving "I wonder if he'll flip before he signs" or "how long will he stay". Well, let's bite our fingernails and enjoy it as much as we can. GO DAWGS
the only way Gunner is losing his job is to injury at this point.
Most likely that's right. Puglisi might be too far behind to catch up and then too late in the season if he did. Don't get me wrong, Gunner is **** good. A winner. Tough. Wouldn't want to disrupt the offense unless the offense was just stagnant or needed a spark. Hell, since we have slow starts in the 1st half anyway, maybe they will let him loose in the first half and he will start throwing deeper passes more often. Would help the running game and the short to intermediate passing games too. Instead of trying to sneak in a deep shot here and there. This seems like a good week to do it against Ole Miss too!
DB's in the Tyner game were no match for the WR's, for whatever reason they were WIDE open in those clips. I want to see some clips or entire game, against a stout defense. Just to see. Its not I am not sold on him. I am curious to see how accurate he is, at this point, in tight windows. Maybe I can find some from last years playoffs.
