I see what you’re saying and your comments are reasonable and make good sense. But speaking for Me I want Much More explosives on Defense. Really the number of points scored ( though I’d Really Love to see more in the first half AND continued in the second half) is adequate though not mind boggling.

To play What If for a moment. What If our Defense was playing lights out and only allowed Auburn 3 points ? And our Offense scored the same 20 points that they did. That’d be 20-3 score. I doubt many Dawgs fans would complain much about that. BUT because the vast majority of those points came in the second half, Dawgs fans Rightfully have room to complain.

I don’t want Anyone to wrongly think I’m opposed to throwing the ball Deep downfield !! NO !! I’m Not !! Even on a miss our receiver might draw a PI on the rival defense. And with more attempts the rival defense would Have to respect the possibility so not crowd the LOS.

I’m just saying I don’t want to see To Many of them as the possibility of an INT is always there. And of course you have Some folks here that would Eagerly pounce Gunner stating All his failures and faults but barely mentioning if At All his successes.
In his first year as Starter I very clearly Remember Some saying “ We’ll NEVER win a Ntl. Title with Bennett as QB !!

I wish Dawg Nation had an archive of comments !! I, Me, navydawg have Many times made comments that I had to Eat. Comments where I was completely Wrong. But there are Some ( Not referring to You) who seem to think they are infallible !! Not in the realm of possibility for Them to make a mistake. That’s fans. I wonder if there might be some Coaches who feel that way ?

I wonder if people realize or care that we are Six games into the season and to the best of my knowledge I Could Be Wrong on this if so please by all means Correct me, that Gunner has still not Officially been named the Starter ? I mean it’s an assumed thing for sure and I guess it’s not That big of a deal. But just saying…….
And I read comments that start off “ Coaches must not Trust Gunner and blah blah……. I wouldn’t put someone at That level of responsibility that I didn’t Trust. Just me. Gunner doesn’t live in a bubble wrap sound proofed world so I’m sure he hears some of this stuff. But what does he do ? He just soldiers own and Tries extremely hard to please his Coaches, his Teammates, and Us the fans.

Sure Gunner deserves Criticism at times he’s not exempt and Shouldn’t be. But he Also deserves Credit and that Certainly Includes what he does with his Feet, his Courage, and his Toughness. So I’M gonna give him some, the young man is a Warrior Dawg, a DGD, and I’m So glad he plays for UGA in the red and black !! Go Dawgs !!

I want to totally Clarify a rather sarcastic remark I made about the play involving Cash Jones. The sarcasm was directed at the man with the G visor, not at Cash !! Since that play happened NONE of my negativity has been directed at Cash. He’s a DGD, a great player, and we’d have more than apt Lost some games over the past if not for him !! It’s not really the fault of the banged up, patched up O Line. The walking wounded !! Their giving their very best.

In the Navy and All branches of the military the responsibility Good or Bad, starts and stops with the Commanding Officer. Any good CO will quickly tell you he’s only as good as his people. Good CO’s are quick to offer Deserved praise and also quick to Accept responsibility when things go bad. Military COs at the very highest ranks dion’t make $ millions per year, not even One $million. I’ll leave it at that.

Gunner's deep pass to Noah was one of the few times he actually had good protection in the pocket. I'm okay with the screens and quick throws. We couldn't run the ball effectively the other night. What Stockton has started doing well lately is, if the blocking breaks down, he's scrambling up towards the scrimmage line while looking down field. Really gives him multiple options.

I think you're spot-on here… but there's one thing no one seems to be mentioning: the performance of the UGA defense in the first half. If you look how much less playing time UGA's offense gets in the first half, a lot of that points to the fact that we still can't get off the field after defensive third downs. Yes, we seem to be limiting opposing "explosives" reasonably well, but if we let the competition keep marching down the field every first half, it may force us into riskier play on offense… and that means potentially more turnovers.

Focus on the offense more, fine… it's needed for sure. But trying to get the offense to "let it loose" to make up for middling d-play is a mistake, IMHO… get the defense to show ALL four quarters, and the rest of the season becomes less daunting

The one thing I would definitely like to see Gunner get better with and that is hitting his receivers out front vs. behind. There were at least 3 big plays that didn't go for big gains because the receiver had to stop and reach back to make the grab. I get there are some challenges with protection (big challenges to be frank), but on some of those plays he wasn't hurried and kind of hurried himself. If he corrects that alone, there are at least 2 additional TDs in that Auburn game.

Almost hate to say it as well, but I love the called run plays with Gunner. They are working well and hopefully he continues to use the slide vs. his shoulder at the end of said runs. He is one tough hombre and a DGD!

Yep, seemed like a repeat of the Bama game where they ran 28 plays, roughly 14 minutes of time and 2 touchdowns on back to back drives.

Well said. You hit a couple of nails on the head. CKS wants more explosives but it seems that all he and Bobo call, 90% of the time, are runs or plays w/in 5 yds of the LOS. Hard to get explosives that way. With explosives (long passes) comes risks. We all know CKS is very risk averse especially with an inexperienced QB. He says he wants more but the game plan doesn't support it.

"The old school, grind it out mentality". And here we have the crux of the matter. Saban (hate to say it) continued his dominance and cemented his legacy by ADAPTING his offensive approach. He recruited 5* WR's and QB's and started slinging the ball all over the field. "But we can't recruit 5* wrs". Why not? It is actually easier now than ever before. Hire a good OC and pay more than the other guys and you'll be swimming in 5* wrs.

I am all for beating the opposition down and wearing them out but now the games are shorter. That takes more time. And in the meantime you can't keep up with teams with quick scoring offenses. It is the age of outscoring the opposition. You know what is really demoralizes an opponent? Getting behind and having the other team get another quick score that you know you don't have enough time to come back from. Can/will CKS adapt like Saban did?

CKS's approach is vintage 2015 Saban. Win with smothering D, ball control and no mistakes. Better have a smothering D because today's offenses are gonna score points. Used to say you can't ever lose giving up zero pts on D. But you can't also ever win a 0 - 0 game. UGA O is not keeping up with today's CFB.

“He just missed connecting on some deep passes to Colbie Young, Elyiss Williams and Noah Thomas in the win over Auburn.”

Correct. Although, two of those passes could (should?) have been caught. Yes, they would have been very good catches, but good college receivers usually make the catch when they get BOTH hands on the ball. Those two plays change the whole ball game not just the statistics about average yards er attempt.

Dare I say it (one more time)? Better game planning and better play calling might help.

“He just missed connecting on some deep passes to Colbie Young, Elyiss Williams and Noah Thomas in the win over Auburn.”

Correct Connor.. But, imo, two of those were catchable. Sure, they would have been nice catches, but isn’t that what good college receivers do - make good catches? Especially when they get BOTH hands on the ball, which happened on two of those close misses.
