Every player is an unrestricted free agent, and so begins the race to sell out to the corporate overlords. I've been all for players getting paid for as long as I've been following the sport. And sorry for the ice cold take here, but the lack of structure and abdication of any responsibility by those who are supposed to be in the position of power to manage all of this is doing tangible damage to the sport. We keep hearing that a reckoning is inevitable, coming along any day now. And yet things just keep moving in the opposite direction.

In anticipation of a rebuttal about coaches having always been free to move on to any better opportunity the moment it arises: 1) I would argue that that is the natural outcome, consistent with pretty much every other line of work in the professional world. It's typical for those who have dedicated however many years or decades of their lives to their work to have much greater opportunities than those who are just entering the same industry straight out of high school. 2) There aren't nearly as many coaches as players. The ability of coaches to jet from one program to another can have negative effects for individual programs on a case by case basis, but it's never created anywhere near the level of instability for the sport itself as what we're seeing with the portal/NIL. 3) To reiterate, nothing I say here is in any opposition at all to players getting paid for the work they put in to making college football the lucrative industry that it is. It's a failure of leadership at the top to implement a system that is fair to the players without letting the sport twist in the wind. It's not as though there's no model for it. As we watch the NFLification of the college game advance every year, it's ridiculous that this is the one area in which there doesn't appear to be any interest in applying that philosophy, leaving us with the worst of both worlds.

I strongly disagree with this decision. It degrades the special, historic place that Sanford Stadium holds for the University of Georgia. Adding corporate logos to the field feels tacky and diminishes the tradition and pride that generations of loyal alumni and families have cherished. I understand that money drives many of these decisions, but college football is losing its soul in the process. What once represented school spirit, loyalty, and community is now being overshadowed by money and greed. Sadly, it feels like the loyal fans and alumni who helped build this legacy are being left behind.

give it time. College football has been finding new and different ways to sell out the last 45 years. These old school stadiums will get new names soon enough. Then the sections and bathrooms will get corporate sponsorships.
