Everything Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after Bulldogs beat Florida
Everything Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after Bulldogs beat Florida
âI never even got to watch it,â Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. âIâve gotten to the point where what does it matter? I didnât say, well, is it targeting, is it not? Iâm like, okay, KJâs in, weâre doing this. KJâs not, then this is what weâre doing, and they gotta make the call and see. So I guess it was, thatâs what they look for.

OK I Love KJ Bolden’s play. He’s a great player and far as I know a DGD. It’s great having him as a Dawg. But the targetting call on him looked more real than the Completely Bogus and frankly Insane False Start call on Gunner !!
I mean not a single soul moved on our O Line but the Refs called it because Gunner clapped TO Hard and wiggled his **** a little as he was clapping ? What ?? I’ve Never seen or heard that in my going on 69 years !! It was a total BS call !!
But UF was indeed off sides !! It stung hard enough when my wife and I saw it in the game. But then for Kirby to come out and essentially throw his QB under the bus by not only Agreeing with the Zebs but scolding Gunner ? It’s great that Kirby is a multimillionaire HC in CFB and Not in our military ( whose pay is unjustly froze as we enjoy CFB) as he wouldn’t last long at all.
At least not back in My time in the military and I doubt today’s either. You don’t throw your people under the bus, especially publicly !! I wish Kirby would have defended Gunner as much as he did KJ !! I’ll get over it as I always do but Very disappointed with Kirby’s attitude about the Refs !!
PLUS it sets a bad precedent for them to feel they can run all over him in the future and he won’t say less alone Do anything about it !! Be assured (Saban or Spurrier (two men I greatly dislike) would be on the phone tomorrow. complaining to the Commish !! Hey Commish they called a false start on my QB because he Clapped to loud and wiggled his **** a little as he was clapping !! That’s a brand new one !!
Kirby didn’t throw anyone under the bus.
Either you didn’t read the article Or your opinion is Completely different than mine. If the later is the case then so be it. But it looked very much like that to me. I’ve been watching ( listening before that) football a long time and I’ve never heard a QB called for a false start and for wiggling his **** a little as he claps.
I can understand Any movement at all by the O Linemen could be perceived by the officials as a false start. But what these called it for is complete and total BS !!
And Kirby speaking to MEDIA could have Easily said “ Yeah I didn’t see it that way but it is what it is” or something along those lines, but instead he Chose to talk about how he lectures Gunner not to he called it “gyrate”.
I’m not a coach and not an expert but I have decent vision and that was a totally bogus call. UF jumped off sides. Many times QBs get Praised for drawing the opposing team off sides.
I’m sure it was embarrassing for Gunner but with his Usual Class as a Warrior Gentleman he didn’t complain he just took the responsibility on himself, something the HC rarely does. Most Dawgs fans wanted Gunner to Score that last possession but he took a knee just outside the goal line in obedience to the last Public azz chewing he got. I’m sorry you can’t see it or perhaps don’t want to see it.
Kirby speaking to Media, not privately in his office or on the practice field or heck even on the sideline but Publicly to the Media: start...
“Yeah, it’s a mechanic thing that they think that he’s overdoing the clap, which is, I mean, whatever. I mean, y’all are film guys, go show every time he’s ever clapped in his career. He overdoes it all the time. I’m like, Gunner, quit gyrating before you clap, because you’re telling the defense when the ball’s being snapped. He did the clap on that play exactly like he did every play. But it got called, so we honor the call.”
Just like with Gunner scoring by diving into the end zone Kirby publicly to the Media called Gunner out for that as well.
Well I’m not media and I don’t have access to them in the direct sense but here’s one that I wonder how Kirby would’ve felt if the AD Brooks would have went to Media and said concerning the Bama game: “Well Kirby really should’ve kicked the FG to Tie the game but he got TO aggressive “ . I wonder how Kirby would’ve felt if HIS Boss said that to Media ? Perhaps a little thrown under the bus feeling ? But that’s a scenario that will Never happen. The players will have to own the Coaches mistakes.at UGA. Now down vote away.
I went back and rewatched that play over and over again. There was NO gyrating as Kirby called it. Unless you count Gunner’s butt clenching every time he clapped, and that’s just from the force of his clap. I mean the crowd noise is defeating so yeah he’s clapping ultra hard.
Two UF defenders did jump off sides. This was a fake, phony, bogus, ridiculous, quite frankly insane call by the Refs.
The ONLY purpose I could see was to give UF a free assist. Yet Kirby says it’s all OK concerning the Refs but gives a rather detailed comment about how “ he claims” Gunner does it all the time. Well I rewatched several and several more of Gunner’s plays and I didn’t see the mysterious “ gyrations” that Kirby referred to.
On the play in question EVEN the announcers initially called off sides on UF and were pretty mystified as to how Gunner and the Dawgs got called for a false start.
Kirby is gonna cause Gunner to get gun shy. And who could blame Gunner if he gets over whelmed with anxiety ? I mean your HC seems to delight in making an azz out of him in public. And don’t think that other recruits like the prized QB Curtis don’t See this and think to themselves, Gosh is he gonna bust me out in the Media to for any mistakes I make ?
I’m Still very, very glad that Kirby is HC. And very, very thankful for all he’s done for UGA and our state in general. He is indeed a great coach. But not gonna lie I lost some respect for him today. This is not the first time and I don’t see him criticize other players very much in the media. I sure Hope he goes back and watches the film.
But I don’t know if it’ll matter as he didn’t really seem like he cared that much Other than to say how He gets on Gunner about that all the time. Gotta make sure the media understands HE’s a great coach. So great he’s coaching up something that’s not even happening. But don’t take my lowly word Watch and see if you detect any pronounced “gyrating” as Gunner claps. I didn’t.
Hey Navy, I agree it was a b.s. call, but Kirby knows which players he can call out. Earlier this year he called out Gunner for not taking a knee to end a game and yesterday Gunner did exactly what Kirby would want. I think Kirby was just trying to explain what the refs told him. Still though, a b.s. call. The call I replayed over and over was the PI in the end zone against Branch. Yes, he briefly had his right hand on the receiver, but he was in position and played the ball. I see a whole lot worse every game that never gets called.
In my opinion, not sure if it is a growth issue or GA simply does not have a presence on the defensive line, but this defense just does not seem to play four quarters. I saw #30 miss a tackle and just did not appear to hustle to catch the runner. Many, many blow plays in the secondary again as it has all year. While Schuman may be up for a head coaching position, the last two years, it really seems like something is missing on defense. If they could correct the defense, I think the sky is the limit but this game with Texas is worrisome.
The call to go for it on 4th and 1 was the absolute right call. However, the personnel and/or play was not correct. If they were going to use a running play, they should've use one of their two biggest RBs. If they're going to use their smaller RBs, then they should've called a passing play to the RB instead.
Yep. Agree. The Zebs were certainly trying to help UF or it sure looked that way to me.
