CFP provides Georgia added incentive to score decisive win over Georgia Tech
CFP provides Georgia added incentive to score decisive win over Georgia Tech
ATHENS â Georgiaâs College Football Playoff resume is not complete, and the Bulldogs arenât the only team applying for optimal positioning in the 12-team field.
Comments
The two toughest games TX Tech has played was Utah and BYU plus a loss to AZ St. Not exactly a powerhouse SOS. But the CFB Playoff Committee has shown little interest in SOS so far so it’s a moot point. Margin of victory is the standard. Go Dawgs !!
The Massey Report shows Texas Tech's strength of schedule is 53rd while Georgia's is 11th. Big difference. Hopefully strength of schedule is being weighted appropriately to avoid another championship where a Brutus like Georgia doesn't roll over a Patsy like TCU again on national TV.
“You look at their margin of victory, leads the country at 33.8. They have 10 wins of 20-plus points. They are in the top 5 in relative scoring offense and relative scoring defense.”
"6 and 7"….at least he had that right, none of it matters - there will always be questions until everybody plays everybody, which is impossible or they go to the pro model. There were less questions with the old model (1 vs 2) than now. It all is more screwed up than ever.
Yeah, but who has TT played that warrants them being ranked ahead of UGA? Utah, BYU? BYU hasnt been relevant since the days of Jim McMahon, and Utah has never been a top tier team. 2 good teams no doubt, but definitely not powerhouses. But that doesnt seem to matter to this group of CFP experts. This committee changes the criteria every week as to what makes you a playoff team. Just win, and let the chips fall where they may. You may impress the committee, you may not. Depends on what their criteria is for that certain week.
so whats the added incentive? I doubt Kirby is concerned about how much they could win by
Georgia blew out Miss St who beat Arizona St who beat Texas tech. Enough said.
Go Dawgs! Wreck tech!
On a side note..I hope ALL of my fellow DAWG fans have a safe, and very happy Thanksgiving! GoDAWGS!
Amazing, isn't it, how the committee of experts seems to know so little about college football that they take margin of victory more seriously than strength of schedule.
I expect that Texas Tech is a very good team - maybe - but who have they played and what are the records of their opponents against what strength of schedule?
Year after year, the committee fails the college football world.
All that said, the Dawgs control their destiny. In the end, the games must be won. In the end, much about the committee's ranking shenanigans is overshadowed by events on the field of play.
Historical case in point TCU.
One might wonder how Michigan and TCU got in the playoffs. Did the committee learn anything? Probably not, I'd guess.
Go, Dawgs!
Im with you, the rankings will look totally different after the conference championship games, (maybe even as early as this Saturday if aTm or bama loses or osu loses to michigan). Either osu or Indiana drops after 1 loses in the big10 title game. Either Bama moves up with a win or aTm drops with a loss in the SECCG. Thats IF that scenario plays out that way. Regardless, 1 big10 team will definitely drop after their championship game and most likely lose a 1st round bye, indiana or osu. The funniest part to me, is to see the self proclaimed best "top to bottom conference" the ACC, struggle to get just 1 team in the 12 team field, and thats only by winning the conference title lol no way i'd put the loser of that ACC title game in the playoffs..Never.
Well said !! And very well illustrated !! They have their annual favorites that they will plug in regardless of pesky facts !!
Amen !! And wish the very same to you and family and All our fellow Dawgs fans and families !! I’m So Thankful to God !! I am indeed a very Blessed man !! Happy Thanksgiving !!
As am I brother, very thankful! I'm very lucky that i get to spend it with the ones that matter the most in my life, family. Me and my better half will cater to my mom and dad tomorrow, and spend the day with them. My younger, but still old sister 😂 and her husband will also be there. I'm very thankful to still have both in my life, but afraid it may be the last Thanksgiving together as a complete family. Dad is in the final stages of dementia, and fading fast, mom isn't in the best of health either. But, if I live to be their ages (86 and87) ill be lucky if I can walk lol too much self inflicted abuse on my body in my young d u m b years is part of the reason 🤣
Y'all beat me to the punch about Texas Tech's schedule. Before I even got halfway through the article I had another tab open to look them up.
I'll just add an analogy I always like to go to when people get starry eyed over big margins against no-names - it's like having someone punch a sheet of paper and judging their strength by how much of their arm they put through it.
As long as we beat Tech, I'm not worried about the ranking. Even if we don't get the bye, the 5th seed is arguably the best seed to win the Natty. The problem with the auto bye spots is that the team takes weeks, including Christmas, off and then they get a team that has just won the first round ~ten days prior. They are tuned up and ready, whereas the bye team runs the risk of getting cold. A Tech win will give us an auto bye, a 5th seed, or the SECCG. All have merits and all have issues, but all three are good spots to be in for the various reasons.
