I work at a supermarket up north….geez they'd get a slap in the wrist and on their way home. Cops don't do anything up here.
I'm typically a "no excuses" person when it comes to these sorts of cases. I'm not one of these, "let the facts play out," or "we all did **** things when we were young" type of people, because the only time people ever seem to say that is when they want an athlete (usually from their favorite team) available to play. In any other situation, at any other time (especially politics), it's "lock 'em up and throw away the key," as soon as the story breaks.
But this story, AS IT IS REPORTED AND WRITTEN, just has a bunch of holes in it. Many of them have already been alluded to in this string. For example, one thing the story doesn't make clear (and perhaps it's not in the police report), is whether the two guys actually paid for ANY items. If they did, it would seem odd — though not impossible — that they paid for some items but omitted a few others. Again, as a former retail store employee and former police reporter, I know that there are people who do just that, but it's not your typical thief. Also, as others have said, the items listed in this story just don't total $100. But apparently another platform has a far more detailed itemized list that totals $94. That one seems plausible.
Even so, even as freshman, one would have to believe these two guys had (have) $100.00 between them. Just surprising.
Then again, when I attended UGA — from 1977-81 — Herschel Walker's sister, who was on the women's track team, was arrested for stealing a $2.00 belt from a local Athens store. We were all shocked by that, too, because we ALL KNEW that Herschel could have purchased the whole rack of belts if he wanted to. So, again, who knows why people with money steal. But sometimes they do. No excuses.
Warning Way Off Topic !! But Prothro the TE from Bowdon is looking good playing Lincoln County. Any how he went down with what look like cramps an a Lincoln player ran over and started him stretch the injured leg !! Love seeing this respect and camaraderie in sports !! Yeah young people pull some bad stunts but they also do some good things to. Good game between these two coming to a close now Another kid from Bowdon just made an NFL like catch !!
Lol....Exactly! Not exactly the kind of people that would go stealing something....like cleaning gear??. Now...Crab Legs??? I could see that. In Tallahassee. Lol
And, for the record....I think this is a horseshit case....that deserves a helluva lot more explanation. From both guys, the police....And, "Walmart"!
Did they "try to pay" and, the payment method NOT go thru...or get rejected?
HS State Championships started on TV today will be running through the week. Just wanted to let Yall know. Really like Porthro he’s got a good build of a TE good speed and good hands. I think he’ll shape up to be a very good player at UGA.
Yeah, there was that Winona Ryder thing years and years ago. I doubt this is that, though.
My sister-in-law worked as a manager for Walmart for years before they screwed her over, and I’ve heard a lot of stories about how Walmart goes after shoplifters. It’s very much a “no excuses” kind of model, where if they can hold anything against a person, they will. We’ll see how it shakes out. Wally World won’t relent, I’m sure, but I do wonder how a judge will rule on the actual details.
As so many here have noted, it just seems like a bs case.
Doesn’t Walmart know Arkansas isn’t in the playoffs !! 🤣🤣
LOL got an “Off Topic” when Walmart was the business allegedly shop lifted. And it’s head qtrs. is in Arkansas !! It was a joke. Lighten up Mister Off Topic !! 🤣
OK my opinion and that’s All it is. You can take my opinion add the appropriate $$ and get a sammich at Mickey D’s. OK IF these two players are found guilty in a court of law. Then Yes what they did was wrong. Yes stealing Is stealing. But stealing $94 between Two guys is a very, very light thing in this country even world when you have people gunning down others in cold blood, rape, assault, you name it.
Some will say Oh !! Oh !! But that simple theft is the start of a life of crime !! Yeah some times it can be. But not nearly Always. Having worked in Corrections for 12 years I might know a little about crime.
A True criminal cannot be rehabilitated. Now the psychs will show up in force and argue that to death. But I’m telling you from having worked at multiple institutions dealing with petty criminals to hardened criminals that would kill their own mother for a buck. You can’t Really reform a True criminal.
Those that made s t u p I d mistakes Even bad ones Can be reformed.
Remember Red played by Morgan Freeman on Shawshank Redemption ? He murdered a person. I had some inmates over my years just like him. I had others that could probably fool a parole board that would kill again at first provocation or opportunity for $$
So IF these players are found guilty it Does Not mean they are on a path to being hardened career criminals. However IF they are found guilty they Do need discipline coupled with proper guidance.
Tying up the court system over $94 between TWO guys is a bit excessive and a waste of tax payers $$ in my opinion. The costs of extracting a pound of flesh from these two guys does not justify the end. Kirby could assuredly get $94 worth of pain and regret from them. Now had Violence by them been involved Id be singing a different tune. I’m working on 69 yrs old but I realize we live in a different world now. Actions taken must be commensurate to the crime. This was Very trivial. Now a smash and grab involves Destruction of property to gain access to Steal property that can and usually does run into Allot of $$. So Yeah the punishment on that would need to be more intensive. One night in jail with a warning that their names and mug shots are on file Don’t Ever let it happen again would’ve been sufficient here, maybe a $100 fine each and call it a day. My opinion.
From my sources in The Classic City….I'd say this whole bubbling sordid affair is much ado about nothing of consequence…my recommendation to Wally World would be to drop the charges, re educate the Loss Prevention Dick, apologize to Walker, Glover, Georgia Football, maybe make a donation to the student athletic fund and pray you're not sued for malicious/zealous/false prosecution…..before a full scale Wally World Boycott takes place.
This is really confusing. The article states they walked out with “paper towels, paper plates and Febreze products without paying for them” while further down saying there were 13 items reported stolen and recovered, including bread, sugar, Gatorade and pizza rolls.
What? The first makes it plausible that they were forgotten or missed scanning but the second is more of a deliberate act. I have no idea what this story is telling me.
Let's not be too quick to pass judgment here. I don't use the self-checkout 'cause I'd probably be in cuffs every other time, (old Dawg trying new tricks) If these young men did try to steal the paper goods, <100 $ , they were silly and wrong, but it's not murder one. Remember Young's lost season over an unajudicated accusation . Let's stick behind them,,,with reservations.
Go Dawgs!!!
Amen! Trust!...but, verify.
The Off Topic bandit rides again! For what it's worth, I appreciate all your posts and recognize DN writers (mostly CR) sometimes don't give you the option to post on relevant articles. So keep the thoughtful info flowing... as long as it's relevant to the Dawgs (and our DN community) more broadly, it's On Topic to me!
$100? Geese, these two should play football in NYC, Illinois or California. Then they could each steal $1200 per day lol.
