Opinions are like arrsehooles … everyone's got one …. and in the sports journalism world the vast majority of them at the end of the day, stink.

LOL! - “Lurch”?…I can see that, I always thought he looked like an emu, but good comparison.

He became too easy to dislike when he would laugh on the sidelines after an interception. Glad he is gone, thought he was a cancer. Good leaders who earn respect from their teammates don’t grow on trees…but Gunner is definitely one, a gem.

Pretty sure “Mr, Off Topic” is more than likely the writer himself…and I am using the term writer loosely.

Just curious: why does a national championship QB at Georgia "deserve" more media hype than a national championship QB from any other school? From the media's perspective, a QB is going to lead a team to the national title every year. Meaning there is no reason to give any particular title-winning QB extra attention unless he has NFL ability, is the most valuable player on his team or is setting records. Otherwise? I don't recall the media giving the Ohio State QB much attention last year. Can anyone on Dawgnation even name him? Everyone was talking about the WR, Williams, and the 2 RBs that are starting for their NFL teams this year. The Michigan QB in 2023, McCarthy, got some notice because he has NFL size and arm strength but other than that, everyone regarded Michigan's title as a product of their defense first, offensive line second and running game third. Going back a little further and no one talked about Jake Coker, who won the title in 2015 for Bama. Everyone talked about the Heisman winning RB Derrick Henry instead. The Ohio State QB in 2014 was notable only because he was a 3rd stringer who was thrown into the job right before the playoff. And absolutely no one having any idea who he was beforehand despite his being 6'6", mobile by pocket QB standards and having an NFL arm didn't hurt. I admit that AJ McCarron got a ton of media publicity during his 2 year run, but McCarron was considered a legit NFL prospect until he had a terrible workout at the combine. But his predecessor Greg McElroy? No one talked about him. No one talked much about Matt Mauck at LSU either.

Stockton is a great story for the University of Georgia but not everyone is a Georgia fan. Everyone else is going to see him as the guy who is #48 in the country in passing yards - and #69 in yards per game - who is on a team with a very good defense, OL, tailbacks and outstanding coaching that he is. (Yes, I know that Stockton is a dual threat. But 35 rushing yards per game at 3.8 yards per carry doesn't make him Tim Tebow or anything close. Tebow had 23 rushing touchdowns in a single season. That's more than any major college tailback had this year or last and is why one dual threat QB won the Heisman and the other was never a serious candidate.)

So it's not about UGA QBs not getting credit. It is because UGA QBs under Smart haven't offered much in terms of individual ability or big stats to make them stand out from all the other QBs who contend for and win titles every single year. The one single year that a Smart QB put up big stats, 2022 when SB IV was #6 in the nation in passing yards - and in a stacked year that included 6 future NFL first round picks that are now starting NFL QBs plus Sam Hartman, the ACC career passing yards leader and future NFL backups Dillon Gabriel and Spencer Rattler - he went to New York. Unless you want everyone in the media to just become Georgia fans too, that is the sort of thing that it is going to take for a bunch of guys who cover every title team every year to treat Stockton as anything else other than a pretty good player on a great team like all the rest.

CBS is now the proud network of the little ten. Their job is to rah rah for their two teams at the top, especially since one of them has the Heisman winner. The other point is after the first couple of playoff games the Dawgs are going to be the favorite to win it all in everyone's eyes and their narrative will have flown out of the window!
