One thing Georgia football should watch for in each College Football Playoff game
Georgia will have to wait a little bit longer to start its College Football Playoff run, as Kirby Smartâs squad first takes the field on Jan. 1 in the Sugar Bowl.

Anyone heard what grade the turf toe injury is for Harris?
”if Alabama goes one-and-done, is there still the same level of confidence in the Bulldogs and what they might be able to accomplish in the College Football Playoff?”
This has to be the dumbest take I’ve read in years…journalism at its finest let me tell you…jeesh
can’t wait for the Carson Beck article…
Like most I look for Ole Miss to totally destroy Tulane. However It’d be nice if Tulane could at least make a game of it and gas Ole Miss even a little. But it’s not that important, if the Dawgs can beat Ole Miss with Kiffin I have every confidence they will beat them without Kiffin. And the Dawgs are now a much better team than Ole Miss faced earlier. Just hope all our key player Dawgs are fully healthy and ready to forge ahead to winning the Natty. Which they can and they Will. Go Dawgs !! Keep Choppin !!
Another Connor special with typical passive aggressive nonsense, taking shots at the Dawgs as usual.
We'll see with Ole Miss, they win but who knows how they actually look. I agree, the Bama take is missing the mark. The media has not come to grips with the fact that the Dawg's defense has turned the corner, and absolutely will not give up those points to Ole Miss this time around. Cheap points were at a premium against UGA's defense in the early to mid going this season, but those days are gone. There will be a new narrative after this round of games are played. Can't wait to see what it is.
I try not to be overly critical, but… this take is so way off base it's hard to ignore. How about something more credible and forward looking, like: what strengths does the winner bring to the game and how will George counter those strengths (and, obviously, exploit any weaknesses)?
Not that hard to do!
Anyone watching OU vs Bama ? OU up 17-0 and looking dominant on both sides of the ball at this point !!
I think what last night's game shows is that UGA is a four quarter team. OU ran out of gas after their early thrashing of Bama and couldn't "finish the drill." If nothing else this season, the Dawgs will make their opponents play 60 minutes.
@Eric_C No shock that OU ran out of gas. When Lincoln Riley left Oklahoma for USC, he took basically half the team with him. Many of the rest transferred elsewhere, leaving Venables with mostly upperclassman backups who have since graduated. Venables had to do a major rebuilding job while moving OU from the Big 12 to the SEC. If there was anyone not up for what amounted to a 9th conference game against a top 10 SEC traditional power who was granted 2 weeks to rest, get healthy and gameplan it would be OU. Bama on the other hand? They're still loaded with Saban's recruits, plus DeBoer has recruited well (though not as well as Saban).
It really stinks how Oregon got to play basically no one - Indiana and USC were their only ranked opponents - and they get to play JMU. Meanwhile Oklahoma goes 10-2 against a tougher than average SEC schedule and their reward was a rematch against a more talented team that they had played already. The committee should have found some way to match OU against Miami. Not that this was fair to Bama either. The Tide was stuck with back-to-back road games (yes, Mercedes-Benz is UGA's second home as they often play there twice a year and sometimes thrice) against top 10 SEC teams that they had beaten already.
I get it. Much of this is the product of half the first round teams being from the SEC. Add in Tulane, JMU and a Miami team that nobody likes plus Ole Miss being abandoned by their coach and this is a horrible first week. The ratings are going to be in the tank which is going to all but force the NCAA to agree to expand the field. And oh yeah, get rid of the automatic seeding, which has Texas Tech at #4 when absolutely no one thinks that they are a top 10 team (it should have been Texas Tech playing in Norman last night, not Bama). The automatic qualifier for ranked conference champions? Get rid of that too. Notre Dame is an even bigger fraud than Miami but everyone knows that the Irish would beat JMU. You can't get rid of both Group of 5 teams because of the anti-trust lawsuit threat, but there is no reason to take more than one of them a year.
Regardless of the path to the NC, in order to win it all you're going to have to beat eveyone you play and that will include at least a couple of teams as talented as you are or even moreso, perhaps. BAMA will have to get through Indiana and maybe Texas Tech, and UGA will have to get through OLE MIss, then probably Ohio St. I don't see a clear cut winner as far as the path goes to the Natty. I would lean towards liking our path.
BAMA showed composure last night, going down early by 17. Notre Dame fans were out on Twitter giving it to BAMA early on in the game,"they don't belong, we do!", But in the end they are just a better overall team than Oklahoma. More ways to score points than OK. THat was always the question in my mind , could OK find enough points. In the end when pressured Mateer wasn't good enough.
You have to put pressure on these QB's, even Mateer looked good when given 4 seconds to find a receiver. BAMA learned their lesson after the first quarter.
That's what we have learned about UGA, we are better when we disrupt the QB. We do the hunting!
@randomsportsfan those are excellent points about the depth. My 83 yo FIL is an OU alum and native of the OKC area…I was pulling hard for them last night because of that, but I didn't like the match-up for reasons you state, and wasn't shocked when Bama quickly erased the lead and dominated the second half.
Yeah I look at those 5/6 games as virtual byes for teams that you hope earned it…but sheesh, it must be nice getting what is essentially a home exhibition game and parade for your fans as you prepare for the real games. It's unfortunate we can't see more competitive 5/12 and 6/11 games, but will add it's definitely an improvement over the seedings we had last year. Hopefully it will continue to improve.
I happen to believe expanding the playoffs will hurt a the ratings. I dont watch Major League Baseball WC games or the 1st two rounds unless the BRaves are playing, I may watch some of the LEague Championship games , but mostly just the WS games (if that). I turn on football if I'm relaxing watching TV but I'm not going to seek out and set aside a game that doesn't mean that much(unless of course it's my team).
I remember the good old days when he men folk would all get together in the den to watch the 3-4 major bowl games New Years Eve and NEw YEars day. Good memories! THey were must see TV, everyone talked about back at work on Jan2 or 3rd.
CKS as much as said that with the expansion to 9 SEC games and adding a bigger field to the NC playoofs that will do away with the SECC game. Who wants to see any SEC teams face off for the 3rd time in the same season ? Play-offs should be bracketed in such a way as to the early games pit different conferences together, when possible.
Lolol....man, I'd love to see JMU & Tulane win their games. Come on, flags and turnovers and bad weather and interim coaches. Lmao
Great Day to be a CFB Fan! It's still chaos.…but, a helluva lot more entertaining.
Go Dawgs!!
