"They knew he was going to throw long and still gave up a 40 yd pass at the end.
No,no! I heard on the radio that Kirby said he thought the were going to just run the ball and run out the clock and play for overtime!! Yeh right Kirby, when they have a kicker who could of made a 60 yard FG??? WHat person watching the game thought that? !! You can't make this stuff up! If thats what CKS and his DC thought then he's no Nick Saban.
Losing Nate Frazier late was a big blow that may have affected the end of the game play calling, and I never saw much mention about the roll out pass play from Dillon Bell…Ole Miss covered that well and seem to be in good position for just about every play.
Everyone on here is blaming the offense but honestly, it was the defense that could not make a stand. The defense never sacked the quarterback, I do agree that the offensive play calling was subjective at times but let's make sure that we call it as it should be. This defense simply was outplayed the entire game and if you look at the teams left in the CFP, defenses are running the shows. Until Georgia gets back to it's signature game nothing else will matter.
I think there are several things right now in today's era of college football that have hit Georgia right in the mouth. In general, the SEC has gotten weaker the last few years. This year was the weakest the SEC has been in forever. The top teams in the SEC are now out of the playoffs. Indiana looked like they were playing a scrimmage team when they destroyed Bama.
Is Ole Miss the best the SEC can offer now?
Yep.
The Dawgs may be resilient, gritty, and tough, but what they don't have is an elite QB and an elite passing game. Their OL is mediocre at best, and as good as the defense has played, they can't win every game. Running the ball is super important, but it is only one facet of the game. If you can't play complementary football today and have an equally good passing game, then you aren't going to win a Natty.
Too many highs and lows, too much inconsistency in play and at QB, and too much dependency on erratic school yard haphazard football play to win games. I'm not seeing that kind of play from Indiana, and I didn't see it from the National Champion Buckeyes last season who dominated their opponents in the playoffs.
Injuries and poor play calling on both offense and defense contributed to Georgia’s disappointing loss to Ole Miss in Thursday night’s Sugar Bowl College Football Playoff quarterfinal game. To read more about the game, check out my latest Junkyard Blawg.
