“Georgia does not look at the transfer portal in the same way as its contemporaries.”
Unfortunately for Georgia its contemporaries are in the final 4. I absolutely HATE to see first year talent like DK walk away but unfortunately it is now the norm. You can’t get half pregnant Kirby. Embrace the portal or join Dabo in the bleachers watching the CFP finals. Loyalty has to be a two way street, I don’t think too many 17-18 year old kids recognize that these days.
It's so impersonal now.
Fans don't even get to know these guys before they leave.
I kinda see what Kirby is doing (I think). Imagine telling h.s. recruits that they need to stay at UGA, develop, and then will be given a chance to play, only to bring in ready-to-go transfers that take those h.s. recruits' playing time. Eventually, you'd have lots of kids transferring out and would have issues with future players trusting you. I'd be the first to admit that I've been on here advocating for ready-to-go portal guys, especially O-line guys this year. I do think the portal is big for areas the coaching staff identifies as areas of need, which I think the O-line is. But, maybe I have to rethink things & admit the obvious - I really don't know that much about big-time college football and our man Kirby does!
Somewhat agree - loyalty is great if you can get those kind of kids. But not many fan bases are patient, they want to win now - and kids want the money/playing time…whether they are ready or not.
Depth/retention is a huge issue and would be better with an unlimited payroll…so would enforceable contracts of at least 2 maybe 3 years. Coaches have their hands tied and “big money” nationally speaking doesn’t GAS.
I’m afraid this model is here to stay for the immediate future. Some can have their new favorite team each year now and that is probably what they are looking for…mine will always be the Dawgs.
Thinks Kirby is doing the best anyone can when all is considered - it’s the most sustainable model imo.
Like the “half pregnant” comment - however, thinks the decision makers are the ones who have the issue.
I like Kirby’s approach- even the players you get in the portal are not necessarily going to help right away- developing is the way to go. The reason we aren’t in the championship is because of our own mistakes- think we would have beaten Miami
Thank you for being the first person in weeks that I have seen have a brain. I will say that there is no one guaranteed "right way" however, our way ensures the best shot at every year being competetive and challenging for championships while also having the easiest route to getting back to that level the following year. It also offers more direct control over your future rather than risking the right players are available or enoufh of them get into the portal every year. Sometimes teams will hit on the right amount or mesh of players. For every team that does and has success countless teams will fail or come up much shorter than they hoped. There can only be one winner. It depends on a lot of luck, good fortune as well as it just so happens to be the right year in regards to experience at certain positions and lack of injuries. None of what most are saying are tm"the issues" is even remotely true. There are things I wish we did differently or tweaked. Still doesnt mean that philosophy on roster building/spending or play calling or any coaching has been the issues that have caused uga to fall short of a nc. None of those things make the list of why they "failed". I'm so over morons shouting this **** bs making everyone associated with THE UGA look like ignorant morons
D1, I get your point, but you can't ignore that the top 4 all relied heavily on the transfer portal. Loyalty is a two way street, and if a kids going to go someplace, you must backfill. Once upon a time, Mark Richt stood firm and said he would never over recruit past the numbers given, while Bama (and Kirby) did it every year. Bama always had extra kids, and Richt was always short. Things change, and you must change with them.
Guys, it's a crap shoot. Some teams have real success using the portal in big ways, and other teams do not. I think it depends on the players, how they mix, and the coaching staff. Dabo has brought (10) transfer players - more than UGA - this session which is a big deal for Clemson. He's embracing the portal, because he knows he will have to at least some to be successful.
I say let Kirby do his thing, and we'll see how it pans out. If we don't make it past the 1st round of the playoffs again, then I'd say it's either coaching, the mix of players, or the fact that we simply don't have the talented depth we used to be able to hoard. In which case, I'd say Kirby needs to make a change in the process, players, or coaching somewhere as soon as possible.
Having your starters stay out of the injury tent is more important than it's ever been.
We've added a 9th SEC regular season game, and the playing field is about as level as its been in the SEC in like….ever.

Top 10 2026 247 Transfer Portal Rankings: LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, Penn State, Ok State, Indiana, KY, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M.
Dawgs are ranked at #31.
Top 10 On3 2026 Transfer Portal Rankings (measures a team’s production during the transfer process, compared relative against its roster and not a comparison against other schools. This proprietary algorithm determines if a school has improved its overall team talent, stayed the same, or declined in talent during the transfer window): Indiana, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Louisville, VT, Houston, UCLA, Florida, Colorado, ND.
Indiana actually improved their roster…if that's possible. Holy cow.
Dawgs ranked #50. Dawgs actually have a negative score, so that means our roster strength has actually declined.
Obviously, these rankings are to be looked at with some skepticism and with a grain-of-salt lens.
BTW - Georgia Tech got Top Big Ten former Michigan RB Justice Haynes from the portal today….
You are correct in what you are saying. But you are correct in support of an obsolete method for building a program. It is not the Saban era anymore. Following the Saban method will get you a final ranking from 6-10, at best. Just like what UGA has done the last 3 years. All 4 '25/'26 final teams heavily invested in the TP. OSU and TX are already stacking premier TP players for next season.
IF all those great young players recruited would stay 4 years you could have championship results. But even taking fewer than most TP players (even Dabo has taken more this season than CKS) players are leaving. They are leaving for more PT, money, easier practices and yearly free agency bidding.
Even the best UGA players leave for the NFL with eligibility remaining. Would you rather have a UGA 5* (make a small splash as a freshman, get hurt or break out some 2nd yr, dial it down in your 3rd yr to not get hurt for the NFL next yr) or a mature, developed, experienced and somewhat proven player from the TP?
IF the system stays the same as it has been the last 3 years, CKS will have to adapt in some way to raise the ceiling of future teams. Personally I like the Saban method. UGA was well on its way to becoming the next Alabama. The world has changed and that method won't get it done anymore.
What the players have shown is that the only real loyalty is to the money. It has become pay up or get get left behind.
Interesting…you state “Still doesnt mean that philosophy on roster building/spending or play calling or any coaching has been the issues that have caused uga to fall short of a nc.” With a statement like this I can’t help but chuckle at the fact that you dare call others moron…
