Georgia football QB Ryan Montgomery âcouldnât be happierâ after first year
Georgia football QB Ryan Montgomery âcouldnât be happierâ after first year
âI came here to be developed,â he said at the Sugar Bowl. âThatâs why I came to Georgia. It is such a prestigious program. The culture here is just different. I love being here in the facility. Thereâs really nowhere else Iâd rather be.â

In this day and age of $$$, such a refreshing take, thanks for sharing @JeffSentell
All of a sudden I am a huge RyanM fan, this kid gets it.
There's plenty to be happy about having a full scholarship along with a substantial stipend every month at UGA or any other P-4 school. Starter, 2nd team, 3rd team whatever life is PDG for all UGA players with a full scholarship compared to the average student, why wouldn't you be happy?
I hope the QBs that come after Stockton are elite. If they are not, then we will always be at a disadvantage to the other teams that pay big money to get QBs with running ability and golden arms.
Certainly don't disagree with your take. That being said, unless you are really really happy at your current job would you not take a substantially higher offer for doing the same job with a different company? Thus is the environment P4 college athletes are in now. They are no longer college students who play football, they are commodities to the highest bidder. Who cares about a full ride scholarship when some fool is willing to pay you 5 times the cost of a scholarship in a single year. It's refreshing to see that some of these kids see the big picture, self development…
With that attitude, this young man has a bright future ahead of him..GoDAWGS!
Sorry but QB development is not a strong point at Georgia. Monken did a great job with SB. Yes we have had some good QBs come through the system.
Love Ryan’s attitude !! That’s the type attitude I would hope for All positions at UGA. Go Ryan !! Go Dawgs !!
Wow, a guy (already on campus, mind you) who says he's content NOT starting. That is definitely refreshing. Also makes me nervous. Like the next time we hear from him he'll be in the transfer portal saying how much he TRULY loves everything about UGA, but he has to do "just what feels right in my heart."
Several comments here about $$$. And I agree. That’s exactly Why it’s gonna be ( already has been) all the more tougher to win Titles of Any kind.
@ Gramster nailed it. These are no longer Just student/athletes. They are commodities sold to the highest bidder !! And speaking for Me that’s Why guys like Ryan and Gunner and I believe Puglisi as well are to be admired. For their Loyalty.
I’m very confident there are numerous schools both Montgomery and Puglisi would start right away. THEY Believe in the development they are getting at UGA. And that’s very important for Them, the Coaches, the Team, and Lastly we the fans. People don’t usually do to well in something they don’t believe in.
We can also be proud of Mike Bobo and Kirby Smart being honest with these young men. I think there are quite a few programs out there that are Not entirely honest with both players from HS and the TP.
SO if your trying to run an honest program your Real adversary is Big $$ and maybe Not so honest people.
Thats Why for Me I’m very proud of the 2025 season. Another SEC trophy in the trophy case and a 12-2 record which is Very good. Satisfied ? No. Never. And I’m sure Kirby and staff and players aren’t Satisfied either. Always, Always shoot for the Ntl. Title !! Give it every fiber of your being. Then let the chips fall where they may. Go Dawgs !!
His price was down because he hurt his knee on the 1st series of his Sr yr. Had he not gotten hurt his ranking and price likely goes up.
With that serious knee injury it is unlikely he plays anywhere in his freshman CFB season.
W/o that injury he may not have come to UGA. Hard to say no to big NIL and early playing time.
That being said , from what i recall, his game and athleticism is very similar to that of Carson Beck.
Navy Dawg , outstanding post.
Go Dawgs
A athlete announcing that He wants to be developed. I think this young man has a bright future as a QB1 at UGA.
Who doesn't - gotta get them there first & you don't want to pay an unproven player just out of HS an exorbitant amount…that holds true for all positions. Then you have to consider how much payroll you have to work with - otherwise things go to ****. It's just like a business; you have to be fiscally responsible and fair to build a team.
Like the model Kirby and staff are using, it appears to be more of an NFL model and they are being responsible, you don't want a top-heavy team with attitudes.
Now if it's veteran player, that is a different conversation.
What a great attitude this young man has. I wish his understanding of the principles of hard work and success would rub off on some of these high paid prima donnas that we come across.
I feel bad for some of these guys. They believe they are good enough to start(and probably are) and at the same time they want to be good teammates and wait and be patient and not come off as dirt bags. But there's only 1 QB that plays(unlike other positions). Even if you're QB #2 that doesn't mean you will ever see the field. Maybe in a big blow out game where the game is virtually over by the 4th quarter with no possiblilty for a come back, and then you're going to be relegated to handing the ball off. Everyone believes they are the bestman for the job.
THey know they can go to some other lessor school and have a better shot at starting. You almost have to have a break or two along the way, an injury to the starter, or the number 2 guy transfers out and now you're number 2.
ANd it's not an exact science determining in practice who the best guy to lead your team is either. MAny a mistake has been made by coaches believing this guy gives us a better chance of winning over that guy. QB's have transferred to other schools and won the NC. Just so many variables. At one time Monken and Smart believed MAthis was a better choice to start than SB. Mathis passed the eye test but not the heart test. SB was told he would never start at UGA and he went on to deliver 2 NC's! How foolish does that sound now? A coach actually told him he wasn't good enough. Perhaps it wasn't expressed to him in those words, but I think SB got the point.
