Good breakdown and analysis Connor. I think having an older, more experienced roster will pay big dividends for the Dawgs.
But do we have any elite playmakers on offense? No. That's my concern. To me, that's the secret sauce that can put a team not just in the playoffs, but in the Championship game. That's what it will take.
@MontanaDawg. Spot on post!
Interesting article because most fans are focused on what players are “gained” from the portal, but maybe focusing on the players “lost” could be just as important…..or more so. Only time will tell and I’m already depressed the season is over. Go Dawgs!!!
I don't care if it is a playoff picture, Kirby in a photo with Golding is not a good look for the program. Dabo's indictment of Golding as tampering in an extreme manner was quite convincing.
With all due respect and no sarcasm. How can you just automatically say we don’t have any Elite players on Offense ? I’d have to go back in history on Brock Bowers but Ladd McConkey was almost an Elite from the very start at UGA. I think Bowers was to but like I said I’d have to go back and look.
Montana we have a young man in Prothro that if they push him in strength & conditioning and coach him up in this off season. You will see him become Elite right before your very eyes !! I don’t say that in an attempt to try to one up you, I say that because I honestly Believe it. But it Won’t be at the TE position but as a WR. Other Dawgs fans have the same idea. Even Connor mentioned it in another article.
Montana you Know Kirby won’t allow these guys to sit around and twiddle their thumbs !! No he’s gonna push them and push them Hard !!
There’s no way we can tell if a transfer coming from another team will be a bust or elite. Past history under another program doesn’t shed enough light. YES there will probably be some busts. There usually is. But there might very well be some diamonds in the rough that Kirby and UGA will polish into a shining star !! Lastly and I surely don’t mean this as sarcasm at you. But this is the most negative I’ve ever remembered seeing you be. You’ve in the past been more optimistic. Was this past season SO bad that you’ve lost faith in Kirby and UGA ?
What about the NFL guy that is now the O Line Coach ? Not only does he have NFL experience but he’s Much younger than Searls, so one would think he’d bring new zeal and vitality with him as well. The players have already been quoted as saying they like him. How do we know that he might not be a younger version of Monken but as O Line Coach ( Maybe future OC ?)
I’ve been accused of wearing rose colored glasses. NO I surely realize there are question marks and Even identified problems. But I Trust the coaches to either resolve those problems or minimize them to the point that they are not nearly as damaging as they were previously. We Know Kirby was not Satisfied with last year. And he Never settles for anything less than a Ntl. Title. He’ll push this entire team as hard as they Can be pushed. So a very good player now could become elite, and a just decent player could become very good. There will be flops and busts along the way that will be demoted down to third string or fourth string if there is one.
Last year in spite of the failure to advance in the play offs was actually a very good year. And exceeded Many of the same expectations and conversations we were having around this same time of the year. We’ve got several True freshmen that are gonna open eyes. We’ve got guys that were really young at the start of last year that will open eyes This year. And at least Some of those TP gets are gonna fair much better at UGA. Believe Brother !! Believe !! Go Dawgs !! P.S. I Believe Gunner will get better as well. He has a ravenous work ethic and he feels he failed his Brothers. He’ll bust his butt to get better !! And he should have more maturity and confidence now as compared to last year. I Believe that to will yield positive results. Even though to me he did pretty well last year. 34 Total TDs combined passing & rushing with only 5 INTs. Pretty dawg gone good for a first year starter !!
Positive article, yet all the trend lines for UGA football are in a long and steady decline each year since 2021 or 2022. As I watched the CFP championship game, it was obvious that UGA was not at the level of either Indiana or Miami. Will 2026 look any better? Well, are the hogs on the lines better? What about our skill players? Not seeing it…. I want to be positive, but I also need to be truthful with candor. Still a big fan of Kirby Smart, but the coordinators and most of the assistant coaches are just mediocre these days…. Coaching tenures have life cycles, just like corporations and all biological life. Smart is now in his eleventh year if I'm not mistaken. The day you stop growing, you start dying.
