Keeping it simple is a no brainer in this day of low retention. Whatever they try, it can't get much worse. Kirby is supreme coaching when it comes to defense and it will be interesting to follow this.
I've got a real sick feeling about the 2026 UGA football team. This could be the year we finally return to solid mediocrity. Hype doesn't float the boat.
Georgia knew it had a pass rush problem going into the 2025 season too…. That's how the Ole Miss QB absolutely picked the defense apart at the end of the season. Not seeing how this year will be any better…
I agree that anyone paying attention should have known there was an issue with the pass rush going into last season, especially with the loss of Damon Wilson. The hope was they could scheme up pressure and of course they'ed get development from the young players. This has been an issue since Jalen Carter left for the NFL; the Dawgs haven't had an inside pass rusher who can collapse the pocket and allow the outside rushers to use their speed to chase down the QB. Fans and the media usually focus on a DE/OLB type to get sacks/pressure, but it's the inside rush that causes QBs the most problems because its in their face and makes them rush their reads or try and escape the pocket. Elijah Griffin is the only guy I've seen that has shown the potential to be that inside rusher. Hopefully, someone else will emerge this spring that can be that guy.
The problem with using your OLB for the pass rush is that you can easily lose the edge. Setting the edge, solid tackling, and getting an INSIDE havoc-producing pass rush — without bringing the house - is what MUST happen to be the most effective. Yes, Ole Miss DID take advantage of our lack of a good pass rush in the playoffs…and, like that basketball team of ours, couldn't manage to get past the 1st round of the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row.
if our offense performed better against Ole Miss we play the best defense against Chambliss…keep him on the sideline.
I think our pass rush will improve. Q was coming on toward the end of the year. Griffin will be ready to roll inside and Sone absolutely looks the part physically at the moment. I think we really missed Gabe Harris in the playoff game also. My main concern on the defense is the departure of CJ Allen. Time for Raylen and Cole to step up.
