Ayla Guzzardo hired as new Georgia women's basketball head coach
Ayla Guzzardo hired as new Georgia women's basketball head coach
âWe are excited to welcome Ayla and her family to the University of Georgia,â athletic director Josh Brooks said in a statement put out by the school. âThis is a great day for our womenâs basketball program.

This had to be in the works for awhile. To fire Abe and hire a new coach less than ONE DAY later? Doesn't pass the smell test IMO. She might be great, but going from what would be described as a mid major (at best) to the deep water of the SEC is a huge ask. I wish er luck: she's gonna need it.
Why so many players in portal?
Once again, going for hopeful results instead of guaranteed results. She has zero power 4 experience. Not impressed with the hire. Does the AD put coaching names on a bulletin board and throw darts to pick a coach that way? I hope it works out for the best, but not getting my hopes up at all.
I'd like to know the rest of the story. Seems like a mutiny was in the works with all the top players entering the portal.
Georgia parted ways with Katie Abrahamson-Henderson on Saturday. Abrahamson-Henderson went 69-59 in two seasons at Georgia
Who wrote this article. 2 seasons that an average record of 34.5 W 39.5 L. ???
I certainly wish the rationale Brooks used in this hire was the same rationale he used to hire the Florida hand me down…but alas, go figure.
Apparently the AD couldn't or wouldn't hire a known power 4 winning coach. Good luck.😕
Nice of the usual negative nellies here to be so welcoming. Just waiting on one more.
With all the power programs already getting all the top talent, she has a tough road to travel. Hopefully she is a master recruiter and can keep the transfers in-house. Wish her nothing but the best!!
Nice of the Vote Down button Nellie’s to take a break from their full time anonymous button pushing job to welcome in our new coach, thanks dazzle…cheers mate
I would imagine she will be bringing in several of her McNeese team players to get things started…took out aTm in the first round of the women’s tourney this year. They had a good team…
this goes better than the last red and black team that hired a basketball coach from McNeese
Looking forward to see what she can do with the program.
She probably got hired so quickly to contact the players in the portal and see if they'll return. The leading scorer, and the two players who earned spots on the SEC All-Freshmen Team in 2024.
