Check out Brad Crawfords rankings leading into 2025 and tell me why one would write this story?

“His 84.9 QBR was sixth-best nationally and he managed five wins as a first-year starter against ranked teams, including Texas, Georgia Tech and Alabama in the SEC Championship Game. Stockton’s 10 rushing touchdowns led the team.”

    Pretty dang good!

@JBMDawg46….yes, that is a great QBR, but unfortunately when it counted the most against Ole Miss in the playoff game, Gunner's QB was 75.1 and Chambliss had a 90.5…

OK I get Gunner being behind Chambliss as we lost the playoff game. But behind Manning ? That doesn’t seem right to me. Just my take. I believe Gunner has a boulder size chip on his shoulder. And I believe he’s gonna make us Very proud this year. Though I’m certainly not ashamed of his play last year.

Gunner is as has been stated many times the main component to success. But he needs full throttle from his O Line WRs/TEs and RBs as well. Also the Defense needs to be full throttle to. If Gunner and the Dawgs score 100 points but the rival scores 103 well you know……..

Stockton didn't lose the playoff game against Ol Miss. Our defense did, particularly our secondary.

Who had the better pass rush in the Ole miss game round 2. Qbr higher for chambliss...how well did he play in the 4th qtr in Athens when the pass rush took over.

So spare me...our best pass rusher was out, #1 ranked hurt in 4th qtr and a bogus targeting call led to ole **** improving offensively in the 2nd half. Until then 21-12. Where was chambliss then?

Played better in one half...but stockton outplayed him in the 4 qtrs in Athens and the first half of the playoff. So that's 6 out of 8 qtrs where he was the best qb on the field...PERIOD

the defense got a TD for Gunner and the offense still couldn’t score enough to win. Just because I’m not a Gunner and Bobo apologist doesn’t make me anti-dawg

@MontanaDawg - I hear ya. I think two things are important in looking at those numbers: 1) our play calling was poor for half the game; & 2) lack of a pass rush helped Chambliss who’s good enough without any help to put a hurting on a defense.
Having said that, I’ve read enough of your posts to know you are an excellent observer of the game. Your point, as usual, has validity but it doesn’t tell the whole story. In fact, I think that together we have hit the nail on the head.

In other words it was a Team loss. YES I fully understand and appreciate that the QB position is the most important position on the offense. But against great competition like a playoff game vs a really good team like Ole Miss it takes excellence from the whole team to win.

Us Dawgs fans aren’t to keen on giving the rival credit but sometimes we’re compelled to. We slid a W on Ole Miss earlier then they slid one on us in the playoffs. It happens like that sometime. The Really important thing is that loss really stings Gunner and All the guys still on the team from last year. They’re chaffing at the bit to redeem themselves.

And even though it was a loss I’m sure lessons were learned. Please understand I’m not trying to lecture you or Montana or anyone. I’m just giving my take. It was a frustrating loss and it hurt. But it’s History. Gunner was a first year starter. There was allot of youth on defense. Actually with the situation as it was last year could have been FAR worse !!

But we’ve got allot of experienced guys coming back now. No one really knows how far this year’s Dawgs will go. But I don’t think motivation will be an issue. I’m not a betting man but if I were I’d bet For Gunner much quicker than Against !! Go Dawgs !!

This is a pro GS article by a pro GS writer on a pro UGA website. True GS did prove some things last year. But there are still things to be proven by GS if UGA is to be a serious championship contender. Not sure a duplication of QB play from last year will be enough to get UGA over the top.

As for the CBS writer's article, he probably watched the 2 AL games and the MS playoff game (like every CFB fan) and spent 5 mins looking at GS '25 stats to draw his conclusions.

What we saw from GS last year was a guy that could help his team at times running the football. What we didn't see from GS last year was a QB that consistently could utilize the TE position. We didn't see a QB that could consistently find his secondary receivers and get them the ball. We didn't see a QB that consistently utilized the entire field.

38% of GS pass attempts were within 5 yards of the LOS and only 13% of GS's pass attempts were beyond 20 yards of the LOS. All of the above must improve this season.

Consider this. About 1/3 of GS total passing yards in '25 went to ZBranch. And most of ZBranch's receiving yards were RAC yards.

GS has a lot to prove about his downfield passing ability.
