You know there’s been tons of conversation about the O on here and very understandably so. But someone posted a quote by Erk Russell. That said something along the lines of if the rival doesn’t score and we do we win. That’s not the exact wording but Yall get the gist.

I’m Believing this 2026 Defense is gonna be special. We’ve got some Very good veteran players coming back and some youth chock full of potential. I’m gonna go waaaay out on a limb here. I predict that by the time our Dawgs face good competition this Dawgs Defense will be the best we’ve seen Since the 2021 Defense. Note my wording I Didn’t say As good ( though they Might be) I said the best Since 2021. Meaning better than 2022-2025 Dawgs Defenses. And yes Possibly as good as the 2021 Defense.

Main thing is the ole word that starts with a I and ends with bug stays away !! If my prediction is even close to accurate it’ll take Tons of pressure off the O. With a True shutdown Defense then 14 points should be enough to beat any team in CFB !! If they are Indeed a shut down defense. Just my take.

And I doubt very seriously our O and Special Teams will be sitting around twiddling they’re thumbs while the Defense gets all the glory !! Go Dawgs !!

Chris Cole is a very good football player. He’ll be a force on 2026.

"navydawg"—Well said. I think our 2026 defense is gonna be very stout. We seem to have a good balance of talent all over the field. Do you remember Erk and that "Bloody Head"? I bet some of these younger folks on here don't even remember Erk Russell like us old farts.

Pre-game antics, first hand! Got players AND early spectators stoked. Go Dawgs!

navydawg, I recently heard Rusty Mansell make the same prediction, citing his sources saying strides were made by Cole and Williams, Griffin, and Gibson, and Q this Spring. I tend to agree, but hope we can have better luck with injuries that we’ve had the past 3 seasons.
