I always have a special interest in a matchup with Oklahoma given my FIL is an OU alumnus, so I'm very excited about this game. Having said that, a game in September will never define Georgia's season as long as Kirby is coaching and we have a 12+ team playoff. The two excruciating losses to Alabama early in 2024 and 2025 prove that. I agree that it will be a difficult matchup and likely a slugfest.
This is the usual silly season noise. Ask Kirby and he'd tell you that EVERY game will define the team and he's right. His message is lace up and win every game to remove all doubt.
Agree @Ugagolf80 Silly season noise. You would think an article mentioning the fact that the Diamond Dawgs swept LSU for the first time in University of Georgia baseball history would be posted…but no. Let’s make stuff up to make Kirby look like he’s throwing all his season defining game marbles on one game, when we all know better. That Connor kid can crank out some prolific national enquirer quality journalism let me tell ya…you know, for inquiring minds that want to know…
Agree with all the comments to this point—and a tip of the hat to the vote down folks, but(showing my age)—what is FIL?
I imgaine it is quite hard to find something really interesting to write daily. No doubt that this could be a key game but with 9 conference games there could be a lot that could make or breal a season.
Until UGA starts beating Alabama consistently Alabama will always be the biggest game on the schedule. The stakes are recruiting supremacy in the SE. Even w/o Saban Alabama is hanging right with UGA in recruiting. Including adding a 5* QB recruit every other year since '22. What's a 5* QB recruit you ask? Exactly.
The media writes articles and forms opinions about UGA's 2026 football team as if the Dawgs defense is going to resemble the 2025 defense. they are far from correct. Points scored against the Dawgs D this year will be much less this year, even against passing teams. The awful play last year against throwing teams such as Tennessee, Ole Miss and Bama will be a thing of the past this season, and little John Mateer does not have near enough in the tank to be a problem for the Dawgs.
