Hey folks - as a member of the DawgNation community, please remember to abide by simple rules of civil engagement with other members:
- Please no inappropriate usernames (remember that there may be youngsters in the room)
- Personal attacks on other community members are unacceptable, practice the good manners your mama taught you when engaging with fellow Dawg fans
- Use common sense and respect personal differences in the community: sexual and other inappropriate language or imagery, political rants and belittling the opinions of others will get your posts deleted and result in warnings and/ or banning from the forum
- 3/17/19 UPDATE -- We've updated the permissions for our "Football" and "Commit to the G" recruiting message boards. We aim to be the best free board out there and that has not changed. We do now ask that all of you good people register as a member of our forum in order to see the sugar that is falling from our skies, so to speak.

What’s with these athletes celebrating like they just won a national championship? Put your head down and trot around th bases and go back to th dugout.
Exactly! Celebrate with your teammates AFTER you step on home plate. Nice comeback win for the DAWGS though. Now 3 games in the Super regional in Athens to decide whether the DAWGS make it to the MCWS..GoDAWGS!
Generally speaking, baseball players are the worst when it comes to being overly-cocky (aka cocky for nothing). That’s the difference between potentially getting slobber-knocked at any moment and there not really being anything that keeps your head on a swivel.
God forbid we take celebrating our achievements out of our lives. Ticky tack call.
Though I agree with the comments that he should’ve waited till he got to home plate to celebrate. Come On Umps ??!!?? Yall must be bored at watching the Dawgs win so much !! Home plate Ump could’ve whispered a warning to him when he came by. But to toss him to include the next game ??!!?? A bit too much in my view. Go Diamond Dawgs !! Keep the pedal floored !!
A Dawg fan pointed out that he was sitting behind his parents and he was celebrating with them after his homer as he ALWAYS does. They were in line behind the dugout. Tough break here for Tre.
fuq that fake a$$ “school”
What about O'Shaughnessy's critical homerun for bottom of 8th insurance to give the 3 to 1 lead. He came in to replace the ejected Phelps! It was his 18th of the year!
Go Dawgs!!
RomeDawg, do you mean his parents were sitting behind the first base dugout? He might have meant the gesture for his family. He also should have gotten a warning, unless he did something in one of the other previous games that we don’t know about.
Go Dawgs!
Also, can we get a positive uplifting article about this huge win. It is barely mentioned that UGA has won and advanced. I am so proud of this team!
It was mentioned by a fan on a message board that was at the game and shared shortly after it happened. The fan said he was sitting directly behind Phelps's dad and had a photo of Phelps looking at his family.
Also confirmation of this from a post by Olivia Sayer on X (formerly Twitter)
Way Off Topic !! Just some trivia on a personal level as I remember my Brother-In-Law ( deceased). He signed with the NY Mets in I think 1964. From Georgia Southwestern. He was a Catcher and don’t know what it was but had a great batting average. Anyway he went to spring training in Orlando, Fl ? Question mark cause I’m not sure of the location.
Any way he was So in love with my sister-in-law and missing her he quit and went home !! They were married nearly 53 years when he passed away in 2019. He said he wished he’d have married her but Stayed with the Mets !! As Yall know pro baseball farm teams didn’t make even in the same universe $$ that they do now.
He’s in his college Hall Of Fame. He was So proud when he got inducted into their HOF. Yall please forgive me on this waaay off topic. Just remembering a wonderful man !! I’m pretty confident if Yall knew him Yall would’ve liked him to.
He was from a little town near Statesboro called Cleto, Ga. He also umpired high school basketball for years and years. All the way until he finally had to retire from it at I think 73 years old. He was a Dawgs fan and a Ga. Southern Eagles fan. Thanks for allowing me to share some sentimental memories ! Go Dawgs !!
They emulate pro players, and plenty of them do the same thing. There is no more trotting around the bases anymore unless it is from the older players. All the younger players have these strange celebrations. But at the end of the day, different generations. Just keep on winning, is what I say, despite an umpire inserting himself into the game.
@navydawg That's a great story! How are you doing? Always thinking about you. I'm 65 and I think we're pretty close in age. Just trying to stay ahead of the wolf! Let us all know how you're doing. I'm in AZ but willing to help you out in whatever way I can. Hopefully we'll get back to the South in a few years to retire. We moved from SC ( Daniel Island) to Scottsdale 15 years ago. Wish I could have my old house back at the price I sold it for. Lol!
The video shows Phelps’ head tilted back looking above the dugout as he went down the first base line. The Liberty coach said Tre made remarks straight to the dugout. Why is it no one reports what was said? The coach can’t give us at least the gist of what he said? And this penalty for a celebration is worse than targeting in football. Sit out a whole game with no appeal? I’d like to know what he allegedly said at least if the “celebration” was so egregious.
