20 strikeouts by Braves hitters still intact. Only 10 k by Braves hitters against the hardest throwing pitcher in baseball and Brewer relievers. A much needed win due to outstanding defense to save shaky relief pitching.
In baseball you never know!
Braves beat the Brewer's 104 mph phenom. I didn't see it live, but what an ending! Just wow.
"He slid into the tag".
Yeah they needed that one.
Perez has been really valuable of late. What a throw by White to save the game.
Raul isnt getting the saves as easy these days. But it's still rolling. Dubon had the big hit.
Braves used their speed tonight too. White running down balls in LF and Mateo beating out IF hits and scoring.
Dang, these Braves are putting together some kind of a season!
I really hate using the term "bench" because these guys (I will call them PNS - projected non-starters) have been incredible, especially in close games and clutch situations. AA should give himself a raise for putting together this team. Nice bounce back from a small skid a few games back. Some kind of season, indeed!!
Ozzie with the walk-off!!!
2nd homer of the game - both opposite field shots!
Ozzie is my daughter’s favorite player!
She texted me when he hit it…..I was working in the yard….and chided me of course since I wasn’t watching the game!
Great two wins against arguably the best one-two pitchers in the game….playoff contenders for sure!
Braves need a win in the worst way tonight.
Still a big lead at 5.5 but no sense fooling around here.
June swoon, clutch hitting missing. Shutout Monday and had multiple opportunities to blow away the game last night.
Phillies are hot at the moment, will it last?
Awhile back I posted that we shouldn't discount the Phillies, even though they were playing terribly. They were like 9.5 games back at that point. I mentioned that they had a formidable, veteran offense that would likely come to life and that the Braves would somewhere in the season have a slump. Both have come to pass. I didn't have any inside info, just 60 years of watching baseball and knowing how hard it is to keep up an insane winning % over a whole season. We are not even at the All-Star break yet and much bigger leads than 5.5 games have disappeared in the snap of a finger.
I do feel confident that the Braves will right the ship and start playing good ball again. But I sure don't think it will be a runaway for them.
Unless they really go into a tailspin 5.5 is still a huge lead. But yeah it's trending in the wrong direction.
Braves still at 93% to win the division. Phillies around 5%.
Those numbers will change a good bit if it gets lower however.
Everything was rolling along until Acuna and Baldwin got hurt. That created a huge hole at the bottom of the lineup. Instead of Dubon or Harris down there crushing it you've got Leon an automatic out. This affects everything. Not only scoring in the short term but you are not turning the lineup over either and getting to the better hitters.
Pitchers know this too of course and can use that part of the lineup to their advantage.
Show me a good offensive team…I'll show you one with a deep lineup that puts pressure on you 1-9. The teams that are inconsistent or bad offensively have weak spots 6 or 7-9 making the good hitters worse in the process. Unfortunately this is where the Braves are right now.
Team still has a lot going for it and hopefully will get healthier.
Not to argue, but I wouldn't call 5.5 games in June a "huge" lead.
