“The stakes have clearly been raised when it comes to recruiting. That makes the addition of Spell all the more important for the Georgia program.”

The stakes are definitely high, and there is a lot more complexity to the recruiting process. Recruiting has to be mastered on three major fronts:

    1. High school talent from across the entire country.
    2. Proven talent once they enter the Transfer Portal.
    3. Quality players currently on your roster who may be considering the Transfer Portal.

I do hope that Spell is committed to signing with UGA, and understands how valuable this opportunity is. For so many of these high school recruits the “commitment” is merely a strategic move to create more leverage in negotiating for NIL money and immediate playing time with other interested programs who continue in the recruitment process.

    GO DAWGS!

"We have we have traditionally paid our players junior and senior year as much as anybody at those positions. We don’t want to start [earlier] because I want you to earn it and work your way up.”

I never thought I would see College Football players being paid, much less these ridiculous amounts. The system is broken and something needs to be done. Why isn't a free education and a reasonable stipend enough for these players?

i like this…the coaches can take the lead and start making less money too! I think 100K a year should be more than enough!

It’s definitely not my place to tell anyone else what they can/can’t do with their money, and I understand the point that you are making in your comment. Each time this topic comes up I think about the videos of players who are (much to their surprise) awarded a scholarship in front of their teammates after multiple years as a non- scholarship player. The reaction is priceless and the emotions are authentic as they break out in tears and are cheered for by everyone in the room. These guys truly appreciate what they’ve been awarded, and that level of appreciation from those who are receiving the record breaking NIL deals seem to be few and far between.

all well and good. But bemoaning players making big bucks but sparing coaches and ADs the same pearl clutching feels disingenuous.

no player or prospective player is indispensable in UGA’s football program. No coaches are indispensible either. Georgia’s storied tradition and the Dawgnation are the constants.
